Credit card charge

My math says it's $2100, $300 X 7 days. It's not a charge but a hold. Just contact your credit card company if you think it will create a problem and get a temporary increse for the length of the cruise. Don't give them a card you are nearly maxed out on.

How did we go from $300 per person for an entire seven day cruise to $300 per day?

Our next cruise is three people in a mini-suite, 15 days long. If there is a fuel surcharge in place at that time, our onboard minimum bill (with tips) will be roughly $880. This is before we set foot on the ship. I like to pre-pay these fixed expenses, if at all possible, so I don't have to think about a final bill that will eventually have to be paid while I'm on vacation.

When you make a reservaton at a hotel, resort, etc., and give them a credit card, they will always get a preauthorization from your credit card company for at least the first night's stay. The cruise line will get a preauthorization for your cruise at checkin time. As your bill nears the amount, they will get an increase in the amount from your credit card company. Moral is to be sure that your credit card has enough credit left on it to cover the preauthorizations.

If I have a large OBC to begin with ($5000) for a 12 night cruise, do I have to provide a credit card to be pre-authorised when I embark?

I have no intention whatsoever of spending beyond my $5000 OBC?

It looks like no-one knows the answer to this question.

What happens if I do not come on vacation with my credit card in the first place, bearing in mind I have ample OBC?

Try it, and let us know.

Looks like I will be the first ever person not to register a credit card at embarkation...will let you know how I get on...one small step for a passenger...one giant leap for cruising.........;)

You do not have to secure your account with a credit card.

You can pay your account in cash.

They request a $300 deposit down for each passenger at the beginning of the cruise.

Once you go over that amount, you need to go to the purser's desk and deposit more money.

Just make sure you have enough cash to cover your cruise bill.

No, you will not be the first person not to register a credit card. I would like to know what happens at checkin BEFORE you get on the ship. I don't think those port people have access to your onboard account other than presenting you with your key card. Or perhaps they do.

Pia's right!!

dmackay46 won't be the first nor last not using a Credit Card.

They will inform you to go to the Purser's Desk once on board to set up your account.

If you do not, you will not be allowed to make any purchases while on board.

OK, so if I have large OBC, I cannot buy anything with it. Think I am missing something here...

The onboard account should be set up anyway should it not as there would be credit already on it.

Surely, we just board with our cards and spend the credit already on the account. I`m confused.

I had to read back.

You pre-paid your account with $5,000.

I gather you sent them a check....;)..:D

(I hope you have a receipt stating the amount.) Don't forget to bring it. :)

I think you will need to go to the Purser's desk as soon as you board to make sure they have your account balance correct.

Yes, paid with card. I have a receipt from Princess.

All I am wanting to know is...can I use the boarding card (which as you all know is also the payment card for the shipboard account) to purchase things onboard, from my $5,000 OBC (for which I have receipt), without having to use a credit card.

I never inferred you needed a credit card on the ship. What I am questioning is how you are getting on the ship w/o presenting a CC at the embarkation desk.
