Hi, we are booking a cruise on celbrity solstice for jan.3, 2010.

We have never been on celbrity before, we have been on royal caribean, princess, and regent mariner. How does this ship compare to the ones we have been on.

Also my ta has in cat 7 room 6207, but she says it over looks the life boats, any recomendations for any better room , cat, or deck.

Thanks for the help, i am new to this posting thing

Of the lines you mentioned I can only speak to Royal, to wit:

1. I found less children/teens on my Celebrity cruise taken the same time of year as the RCL cruise, which was also in the Caribbean

2. The casino was nicer and the dealers were better on Celebrity

3. The Celebrity food presentation was better.

4. The RCL ship had more activities going on

5. The bar staff was less hurried and more engaged on Celebrity.

6. A higher percentage of passengers went formal during formal evenings on Celebrity

All of this said, I think that Celebrity was marginally better than Royal. I'd take either line again on similar class ships and will base future booking on itinerary, date, and price.

Hi Arizona Girl !

Welcome to Cruise Critic. As the last poster (Jeffreytg) did a great job of answering your questions, I will tackle your cabin question. 6207 is in a great mid-ship location. The only issue, is the obstruction you may have from a lifeboat. Hopefully, someone who has stayed in this particular cabin or area, can comment on how much of an obstruction there is.

If you want to be assured of a non-obstructed view, you can move up to a Category 2C cabin, though it will cost you (as of tonight's pricing) an additional 100.00 per person. If that works for you, Cabin 6243 is available for your sailing, and would be a very good choice.

I hope this helps. If you have any other questions, feel free to ask. Enjoy your Cruise !

If you look at the top of the main page you will see my sticky thread titled Solstice Cabin Compilation. Go to the last page and look for my post with a PDF file attached. That is a spreadsheet with cabin information for many cabins on Solstice with information on view, noise, etc. You might find a good cabin by searching through that information.

I have a question - on the Millie and Connie we like to book and eat in the Casual Dining upstairs in the buffet area.

Can you do this on the Solstice?

Thanks

Hellosailer, I would like to thank you for this question!!!

There is a buffet, but no sit down and served dining.

I believe the buffet is more limited than you might find on other lines, but more extensive than on the pasta and pizza that is available on Millennium class ships in the buffet area.

We didn't eat at the buffet in the evenings. Perhaps someone who did can give more details.

If you have booked come on over to the January 3, 2010 roll call board for Solstice and join the Celebrity Connections sign up also.

Also give a looksee as there have been some price drops on that sailing. You should inquire to lock in the current price.

Best Regards!

Thank you much for your reply!

Just to clear it up they do not have casual dining on Solstice but do have several specialty restaurants.

Celebrity does not and never has had a full buffet for dinner on any of their ships except for unusual circumstances.. If you are expecting a buffet as you would get on other ships and at lunch and dinner on Solstice, they do not have it. They do have various options as others have mentioned but not a buffet.

How many will be in your stateroom?

Did you get any type of Discount?

What state do you live in?

I would pay $200 for the stateroom (if it is 2 people) and get a 2C some of those have a pretty good view - for instance on blocked if looking straight down.

1 - Ship is the best Celebrity has out there.

2 - I was in 6257 - you see the holder arms for the life boats and some of the top. This could be a problem if you wanted to live in the cabin for 7 days. If not no worries.

Thank you all so much for replying about the Buffet in the evening.

I thought I read somewhere that you have to pay $2 extra tip and make a reservation. But since that's the system on the Connie etc., I may have confused it.

So, where would we go on the Equinox if we missed our seating in the MDR? We are happy with a salad bar etc. and could visit the Bistro, I suppose. Presumably, there are light meals in the Buffet in the evening?

Goodness, it is going to be quite an adventure for us old stick-in-the-muds!!
