crown and anchor question

Recommended Posts

does anyone know the "typical savings" for platinum level for Balconies or suites. I have been on 4 cruises with RCCL and we are planning a Mariner trip for late spring or early summer. Would it be worth it to jump a quick weekend jaunt to get to Platinum level before booking mariner.(have typically booked all our cruises 60 to 90 days out).....

My DW just thinks I am angling for another cruise.....

Thanks

First of all, nothing wrong with another cruise just for cruising's sake! :D Platinum gets you $100 off per balcony (or higher category) cabin on 7day or more cruises. I think you get $50 per cabin off under 7 days and more off over 12 days, but I'm not sure. You also get those nifty coupon books with 15% off various items (massages, those sometimes awful photos, casino chips, etc.) instead of the 10% you get as a gold member, plus 10 minutes of free internet. You also get priority boarding (a separate checkin line) AND you get a nice lounge to sit in during debarkation, so you're pretty much guaranteed a place to sit, coffee, juice & some pastries. There is also a Platinum/Diamond reception on most cruises (we had a cocktail party on a 3-night Monarch cruise), so there are a few free drinks & tasty hors d'ouevres (sp) for you.

And Platinum brings you one step closer to Diamond, when you will get the fabled Concierge Club privileges on selected cruises.

Have the wife talk to me!

How many Cruises do you need to get to the first step (Gold?) in the C & A? Aftter your first Cruise on RCCI do you hear from the Cruise line telling you how to become a Gold, Platium, Diamond member, or do you have to contact them?

Also do they keep track of how many times you cruise with them or do you have to keep Credit card receipts, the sea pass card or some other proof that you sailed with them? I actually sailed with RCCI on the Song of Norway years ago, but have no proof of that and they probably don't keep records that long. Appreciate any info. :)

Morning...

You only need to complete one cruise with RCI to become a Gold member. After that you need to complete 5 cruises to move up to Platinum level and Diamond I believe is 10 complete cruises. Unless of course as a previous poster said if you book a JS suite or higher or take a cruise of 12 days or longer you will reach each level sooner because they give you two credits.

I have read of people who have sailed really early on with RCI who have credit for those cruises. In that case I would place an email or phone call to Crown & Anchor.

I sailed on Nordic Empress back in 1994. When I contacted C&A a few years back, they still had record of that cruise. Not sure how long ago you sailed, but I was able to get credit, so it's absolutely worth a shot.

Sweet memories. That was my first cruise & my class trip (I went to school for Travel & Tourism). If you can imagine 15 girls, all in their early 20s, all relatively cute, sailing together. We created quite a stir with the crew, that's for sure!

You need to call and ask. When the program was just getting started, I realized they had us down wrong. When I called, they had a record of our very first cruise on the Song of America in 1986 and the next one on the Soverign. That was all they had, and we had completed number 6. I had to find and send proof that we had been on the others. Good thing I am a pack rat. I sent them the list with copy of sea pass, airline tickets, and then being a smart a*s, I even told them the name of each Captain, Cruise Director and Assistant C.D. They corrected our level and we are now, a few years later, Diamond Members. It does help to save some things.

Check it out.....

Thanks everyone for your responses! :) So I just got back from a 11 night Cruise; that would be 2 points, is that right? Guess we better hurry up and take some more Cruises so we can at least make it to Platinum. :D The perks sound like they are probably worth it!

11 nights is only one, 12 nights is 2, I just got back from a 11 night also, and thought it was two, but only one, so I just have to go on one more cruise to be Diamond

Consider doing a quicky weekend cruise to add the credit if you come across a deal. I did this with the Monarch so that I'd be at the 2nd level before our 2006 cruisetour to Alaska with RCI.

abob - You can expect different coupon books in your cabin as well as a packet containing keys to the concierge lounge. It is a nice quiet lounge with that's open all day. In the morning there is a light continetal breakfast and in the evening, there are pre-dinner snacks and drinks (wine, coke, beer, etc). The concierge can make reservations for you in Chops or Portofinos, provide tickets to the ice show, and assist with shore excursions. I only wish the concierge lounge on the Voyager Class had windows. If you ever sail on a Radiance Class, the lounge, while smaller, is on the port side with large windows.

Just got my Issue 1 2005 book today. Platinum is $35-$75 for 3-5 nights, $75-$150 for 7-10 nights, and $115-$225 for 11-12 nights.

We sailed on our honeymoon on The Song of America in 1984. When we booked a cruise in 2003 we were able to receive a credit for that sailing even though they had no record of us. Good customer relations! We now have 4 crown and anchor cruises under our belts. Ask, it can't hurt.

Also I will add to get the 2 suite credits you have to pay for the suite. We were upgraded to a gs back in April but only got 1 credit because we paid for a cabin below suite stattus.
Crap! We upgraded to a suite this past September and were told that we would get the C&A credit for a suite. If that's not the case, then I'll be really miffed. Unfortunately when standing in line with a ton of people behind you, it's difficult to get this kind of thing in writing. My bad...but sheesh, it's sad that you cannot trust a simple statement from staff.

That's the SECOND time RCCL has screwed up C&A credits for me. The first time, I booked a VOS 9 day while on AOS and the cruise consultant said that we would be getting two credits as it was a nine day cruise. He brought it up, not us. When we got home, we discovered he was wrong. Either they're not training their people properly or there are some fast-talking sales tactics in use by some of these folks.

If this is the case, it negates the need for our "short trip" this summer on Enchantment. It was expensive but we thought it would be worth it for the discounts on other planned cruises as well as the Platinum perks. I don't need an excuse to do a cruise but for the $$ and the time of year I might consider doing something else with the vacation funds.

Crud...I'm calling C&A tomorrow to confirm this. Crud crud crud. Thank you SO MUCH for the heads up...would not have wanted to discover this AFTER my trip.

Cheers,

Esther

I just called Crown and Anchor Society. The double credits for booking a suite "program" began January '04. Any cruises taken prior do not recieve the double credit. We missed it by 4 months. Oh well, just and excuse to book a suite next time!

If you PAID for the upgrade you will most likely get the two credits. We were upgraded at no cost to us and when I asked about the 2 credits they said no, because we did not pay for the suite(a gs). Of course going from an ocean view to a gs who worries about cruise credits.

Yep...what I'm not 100% sure of is whether they'll count a pier upgrade (which we did pay for) as the two cruise credits. If it were a free upgrade I would definitely understand not getting the credit. But...whether upgrading at a discounted rate or not changes the credit remains to be seen. Frankly I'd be miffed if I didn't get two credits but would acquiesce...save for the small matter of my asking a direct question to the Pier Coordinator about this and being assured that it did count.

No sense me getting my undies in a bunch until I find out for sure though. I'll keep you updated. I booked a JS for the next big cruise so hopefully they'll get the C&A credits right then...maybe I should get it in writing ;)

Cheers,

Esther
