Rare FlyerTalker Posted October 7, 2016 #26 Share Posted October 7, 2016 Think what you want. I'm not cheap but a thirty minute taxi ride in NY is about $35, $180 for 40 minute ride? I know it's a different state but it's not that far.You have multiple jurisdictions here, which heavily impacts the price. Tolls run at least $20, and more if not on electronic tolling. The big factor is that you are, in effect, paying for a round trip ride, as the New Jersey driver CANNOT pickup a passenger in New York going back to New Jersey. So it's just deadheading back across the Hudson. Ditto on the reverse with NY taxis. Same with taxi fares to Westchester county - they can't pick up a fare there, so it's deadheading back. Which is why the regulatory agencies allow for the higher fares to make up for the lost return trip. So, you see, there's more to it than just "not that far". But if you want to take it out on the driver, I can't stop you. Just know that he's not taking you to LGA by way of Albany just to jack up the rate. If I ever do Bayonne again I'll use EWR.
Langley Cruisers Posted October 9, 2016 #28 Share Posted October 9, 2016 Point taken. If I ever do Bayonne again I'll use EWR. Yes. You can get a private car and driver for around $55.00 plus tip (have done this twice). The cruise line transfer is always more expensive if there is more than just one person.
