DqALEX Posted June 25, 2009 #33 Share Posted June 25, 2009 I'm still trying to figure out this odd Carnival card from 1998! The lady to whom it was issued works for a major airline for some decades now so she gets all sorts of perks travel-industry-wide. Is this card a special issue for industry workers? Travel agents? What? -does anyone know? It's not the standard cruise card for the era, because I've seen some of them and they are nothing like this 'Plain Jane'-lookin card! . Wow thats a nice find

I just thought about it, and when on the Fascination a few weeks ago some lady had a S&S card/some kind of ID that did not look like a passenger or crew member. She was traveling with a bunch of ppl that was related to a member of the band. I could never get a good look of her ID she was wearing. It was white in color. That's all I could make out. Maybe on that particular cruise June Borne was on a family related cruise to a crew member. My best guess:D

Aplmac Posted June 25, 2009 #39 Share Posted June 25, 2009 Wonder if Host Mach has an "in" with someone at Carnival, who can shed some light on this mystery? Does Carnival have an in-house Company Historian who would know? Thanks for inputs large and small, re. this odd card. For some years now, I've known the lady whose card it was so I'm not guessing about her travel industry status -she's been an accountant for British Airways for about 20-30 yrs. and she and her husband do flights and cruises like you and I do hot dinners because she gets all kindsa deals --like 10% of what you and I get to pay(we're so lucky!) :D So she's not a Carnival employee, but she does get her special rates. ...................................... Below are examples of regular paying-passenger cruise cards from years both before and after the date on June's card to illustrate the unusual nature of this employee? or near-employee? card. mrbassman Posted June 25, 2009 Author #40 Share Posted June 25, 2009 THANK YOU EVERYONE !!!!!! Those pictures are amazing, just what I need. I did begin the restoration of the model, and it appears to be bit worse off than I thought. Nothing I can't fix, just needs a bit more work. I estimate this will be finished in September or October, with work, kids, house, etc, etc, I don't build as fast as I would like. Bear with me, I do promise I will update the thread as I go along and I will definately post photos of the model sailing again. I'll try to do a video, not sure if I can, but definately pictures. Thank You again, Ken.

Elationismyship Posted June 25, 2009 #42 Share Posted June 25, 2009 (edited) I'll chime in on this one too . . . . The Festivale holds a very special memory for me. My husband and I, married 2 years at the time, took a last minute trip on the Festivale out of San Juan (I even remember the price $699 per person -- what a deal at the time). We were trying desperately to get pregnant and had no success for about one year. We had bunk beds in the lowest cabin category you could get. It was the smallest room I'd ever been in and we had a fantastic time on this beautiful, old ship. When in Martinique, we visited a very, very old church and I prayed for a baby. Low and behold, about 6 weeks after this cruise, the dr. confirmed I was 6 weeks pregnant. I don't know if it was the old church, the old ship or the bunk beds -- but it worked. My daughter is now 13. :-) Edited June 25, 2009 by Elationismyship

DarthGrady Posted June 25, 2009 #44 Share Posted June 25, 2009 Hey, love this thread. We sailed the Mardi Gras in 2/80 (Honeymoon), would love to see deck plan:0) I was just thinking about starting a separate thread and posting the other deck plans that I have in this book. It has all three of the original ships plus "The all new!" Tropicale. Maybe I will head it up as a Carnival history thread and folks can post info or ask questions about all this kind of stuff. I'll work on it tonight, keep and eye out.

luvavacation Posted June 26, 2009 #48 Share Posted June 26, 2009 Oh DarkGrady, thanks so much for finding those deck plans! I knew I wasn't crazy. Deck plans sure were different then - looks like one room now was previously two rooms - no wonder I remember the room as being so tiny!
goldiemom Posted July 23, 2009 #49 Share Posted July 23, 2009 I love this thread. The Festivale holds a place very close to my heart. My boyfriend and I sailed on her July 5, 1980 from Miami. That night under the stars, he asked me to marry him. On February 14, 1981 we were married on the Queen Mary in Long Beach. We have sailed many times (we are still happily married), but that ship holds special memories.
falkcor Posted July 23, 2009 #50 Share Posted July 23, 2009 here's a more rare view of the festivale, and her sister ships in the fledgling carnival fleet. festivale's in the foreground here... this pic kinda represents for me the birth of a legend... here's how it all got started.
