lulu52 Posted June 23, 2009 #1 Share Posted June 23, 2009 We are interested in sailing in June of 2010 in the Scandanvian Splendor trip on the Regetta. Would like any input in impressions of ship, ports and anything you can tell us about the cruise!
Rare LHT28 Posted June 23, 2009 #2 Share Posted June 23, 2009 I would read through some of the reviews posted at http://www.cruisecritic.com/memberreviews/getreviews.cfm?action=cl&cl=Oceania%20Cruises Also through the forum here Then if you have specific questions just ask Most of us here are repeat cruisers so we may be a little bias when it come to Oceania ;) Lyn

MightyQuinn Posted June 23, 2009 #5 Share Posted June 23, 2009 We are interested in sailing in June of 2010 in the Scandanvian Splendor trip on the Regetta. Would like any input in impressions of ship, ports and anything you can tell us about the cruise! In addition to the reviews already suggested, you may wish to check out a Virtual Cruise by traveler Jana who sailed Scandinavian Splendors on the Regatta in July/08. It’s an excellent intro to Oceania & chock full of helpful advice on the ports of call. Well worth a read! :):) http://www.cruisecritic.com/virtual/virtual.cfm?ID=
Bruin Steve Posted June 23, 2009 #6 Share Posted June 23, 2009 Lulu, A lot depends on what you are accustomed to and what you are looking for. Are you a veteran cruiser? Who do you usually cruise with? Oceania is a little more similar to the high end, luxury lines than to the big ship mass-market lines. Ships are small--30,000 gross tons, 684 passengers...about one-third the size of a Celebrity M-class ships...about a quarter ot a fifth the size of the large RCI cruise ships... Some good points to a small ship, some negatives as well...depends on what is important to you...Ships are uncrowded, easy to get around, atmosphere is very pleasant and easy--no crowds and rush... Service is very good, food is outstanding...no formal nights to deal with...dinner service is open seating... The ships can go to some smaller ports that cannot accommodate the big ships... On the negative side, entertainment is not a major priority and it shows...nightlife is limited as is off-hour food availability... On the whole, it's an excellent product...value for the money compared to the premium luxury lines like Seabourne, Regent, Silverseas, et al... Crowd is mostly adult with a slightly older demographic due to lack of kids and teens programs, cost and cruise length...fairly "upscale" in terms of socio-economics Itinerary: Jun 02 London (Dover) 10:00 p.m. Jun 03 Bruges (Zeebrugge) 8:00 a.m. 6:00 p.m. Jun 04 Amsterdam 8:00 a.m. 6:00 p.m. Jun 05 Cruise Kiel Canal Jun 06 Berlin (Warnemunde) 6:00 a.m. 10:00 p.m. Jun 07 Copenhagen 8:00 a.m. 5:00 p.m. Jun 08 Visby 10:00 a.m. 4:00 p.m. Jun 09 Riga 9:00 a.m. 4:00 p.m. Jun 10 Tallinn 12:00 p.m. 6:00 p.m. Jun 11 St. Petersburg 8:30 a.m. Jun 12 St. Petersburg Jun 13 St. Petersburg 7:00 p.m. Jun 14 Helsinki 8:00 a.m. 5:00 p.m. Jun 15 Stockholm 9:00 a.m. Jun 16 Stockholm Pretty nice itinerary... Bruges is a gem--one of my faviorite cities in Europe Amsterdam has lots to see and is a great city... Berlin requires a three hour bus or train ride each way from Warnemunde but is worth visiting Copenhagen is another favorite--charming and lots to see. I don't know Visby Riga is okay...interesting but not much Tallinn is great--too bad you don't get in until noon... 3 full days in St. Petersburg is the prize of this itinerary...most cruises give you two and two isn't enough... Helsinki is okay... Stockholm is charming...I was there for a few days precruise last year and really got to love it...I'd stay after for a post-cruise... Hope that helps... Have fun... Kiko1 Posted June 24, 2009 #7 Share Posted June 24, 2009 We took this cruise on the Regatta Aug 2008 and loved it. Brugges was a favorite city as well as Tallin. We had some rough weather and were unable to see Helsinki, but the rest was great, even with some rain. St. Petersburg and Berlin were very educational and interesting to see. Oceania excursions can be pricey, so we opted to take St. P and Berlin excursions from Denrus. The three day program in St. P had about 12 people in a van with a very good guide. The Berlin excursion only had 4 of us so we rode in a small van and got into Berlin in two hours on the autobahn. The buses take about 3 hrs. I highly recommend Denus. We toured most of the other cities on our own, and it can be a challenge getting from the ship to the old town areas. Local guides that board the ship at each port will provide maps, but it was worthwhile researching local transportation besides cabs on the internet before you go.
