Blackjack Players Step Inside!

Yo Eleven

Recommended Posts

HAHA! I quit playing blackjack years ago in fear I would be arrested for assalt on a stupid blackjack player. I am certain though when the police learned why I beat up the fool for splitting tens three times that I would be released. But, it is too much trouble to get myself involved in such mess, so I stopped playing blackjack all together. LOL! :D

Interesting thread .. I just came back from Harrah's in New Orleans ... players splitting 5's and 10's with dealers up card of 7 or better ... when I ask their thought process .. they said it was to make more money and they believed strategy cards were invented by casinos for players to loose money .. Well .. I split cards so one hand may help the other (to break even) and opportunity to double ... I do not split 10;s, I do split 8's, I do hit my 12 against a dealers 2 or 3 up card ..

I noticed at Atlantis and at Harrah's in New Orleans the dealers did not bury a card when changing dealers... was not use to that ..

Be a pleasure to share a table with some of you gents on a future cruise .. maybe we can make it a private table ..

I prefer to be at the last seat, or observe first and make sure the last seat has an experienced player there. I prefer to keep the weaker players to my right. That last players got to be able to bust the dealer IMHO..Also, I scale back my bets based on how Im doing, or of the uncertainty of the people Im playing with. Stronger players sit down, and Im doing well....I bring it back up. Really basic strategy.

Also...(according to the books)...Always split the Ace's and 8's.

I always split aces and split eights. I prefer to play anchor. I'll take all the abuse from the poor players when they lose. Somebody has to take the blame. On very rare occasion, I will stand on eights. Doesn't happen often. Me, the dealer and math. That is only half of my play. The other half is chip management. Red, Green, Black makes no difference. Only pieces of clay until you get to the cashiers cage. Bet progression on the way up. Bet regression on the way down. That is the trick. On the way up? A couple of greens or blacks in your pocket are your bank and more. I don't count cards. Multi deck makes it too much work while I am having fun. No need. Maybe see you on board and good luck. Harry

Just wanted to say that you sound like a great guy to have at your blackjack table! A bunch of girlfriends and I go to AC every year and we have sooo much fun at the table, People come over to see what all the fuss is about, the pit boss hangs out a little more than at the other tables- we do alot of cheering, hand clapping and laughing...sounds like you would fit right in! We are cruising (8 ladies in total) in about a week and plan on visiting the casino on the ship and at Atlantis....any tips for us??

Other players decisions, hit, stay, split, double, or whatever has no effect in the long run. A so called stupid play only changes the cards to come, sometime for the good, sometimes for the bad. I know it's frustrating when third base wrongly hits and takes the dealers break card, but it could change the rest of the shoe in your favor, or not. That's why it's called gambling.

ParrothdJH... both of your last posts are true.

As long as the play is not so outlandish as to be disruptive to the table and the game. Stupid play can kill the whole mojo at a table and take away the "having fun" aspect.

Case in point- My last visit to Vegas, there was a very drunk, old man that did not speak English. I mean drunk enough that I am not sure how he was still sitting upright. He was basically playing on autopilot thanks to the dealer who would correct him when needed because he always seemed to signal for a hit because that's all his brain seemed to be able to handle. They switched dealers and the new dealer wouldn't play his hands for him and stopped each time waiting for him to figure out what he wanted to do. This guy was hitting 16's against 6's and splitting 10's and doing all the stuff he shouldn't do. He kept pulling money out and playing. He emptied out the table because he slowed the game down so much. I stood there watching and he got a blackjack and the dealer paid it having to use a pink $2.50 chip. This guy didn't think the pink chip was legit or something because he kept arguing and pushing it back. The pit boss came over and after trying to convince him that he was paid correctly finally gave up and paid the BJ even money (to which the guy was fine with???) I couldn't play until he finally left the table. But it was something to watch. The pit boss and i talked afterwards. She said she has worked there 20 years and can't remember anyone else EVER refusing money.. correctly won or not...

Hi all, first time poster here.

Next time you get dealt a blackjack you should thank the guy at 3rd base that split 10s two hands ago, it wouldn't have happened without them. Likewise the next time you get dealt a 16 against a dealer's 10 you should curse everyone at the table that is playing perfect basic strategy because their actions led to this. Stupid play from others doesn't really bother me, sometimes I find it amusing. I do get a little frustrated when they play badly and keep winning and I'm playing correctly and am losing. If everyone played correctly there would be more restrictive rules.

I don't like automatic shufflers. When is the last time you had a hot shoe with one of those? Even if you are not a counter sometimes you know if there are an abundance of high or low cards in the deck and can bet accordingly. Boo auto shufflers!

If surrender is offered I only use it with a 5 against a 10 or a 6 against an ace or 10. I gleaned that from a strategy book.

That's about it from me. Hoping to sail on something on January 30 or 31 out of Miami, waiting for a hot deal to come in. I always feel a little out of my age group on these boats as I am 30 but I always have a good time and I'll be taking my girlfriend on her first cruise.

jobi....You are spot on but don't tell yo eleven. He might have heart failure:D. I have been playing since before you were born and the only player that effects my outcome is ME.

I have been playing once a week for the past several months at a Seminole Casino here in Florida. I always play at the $10 table because my main objective is to have fun and enjoy myself for 2 or 3 hours. I can tell you that you would not believe the things some players do.Nevertheless as you noted, sometimes it helps...sometimes it hurts.

Cheers and have a great cruise

HAHAHA! Rantheman smoked me out!

Yeah-if I was at that table with the guy splitting 10s at third base I would have taken an axe and cut off third base and make his own table. I have no tolerance for idiot play like that. It is my opinion. Yeah yeah yeah I know the general pop says it doesn't matter. I just hate people like that. Hence why I try to stay away from table like that. You usually see DUMB play like that at the 3 or 5 dollar minimum table anyway. I try to stay away from those!!!! BUT!!!!! On the local gaming boat the jerkoff crooks that run that boat are changing it so dealer hits on soft 17s and on 5 dollar minimum tables the BJ payout if 6 to 5. So now those splitting 10 jerkoffs may move to the 3 to 2 10 dollar tables.

Looks like I will be cutting up a lot of tables. :D

How do you know it was an idiot play?

Maybe the guy was counting cards, and either A) the count was high enough that splitting tens was actually the mathematically correct play, or B) he was catching heat from the pit critters and purposefully split tens to make it look like he was an inexperienced gambler.

Or maybe C), he did it to piss off the killjoys at the table and get them to leave. :D

Anyway, there are tons of suboptimal plays in a casino. Do you "hate" people who play the five-number bet in roulette? Do you want to chop off part of the craps table for those who play the "any seven" bet?

Life's too short to worry about the mistakes other people make. Especially when they don't affect you one whit. (This is true beyond the casino as well.)

Hey as you just said, as well as me.....

Their play generally will not affect the outcome of the table.

It simply bothers me they way the do it. I don't like it. And I don't want to be around it or them. Usually people like this also do other stuff that bothers me, like talking about boring stuff I don't even want to hear.

Therefore, I stay away.

If someone doesn't like the way I play craps, they can walk away as well. :D

Just got back from Vegas ... yes it is amazing what folks do ... split 10's and 5's .. even on quarter tables ...

Got to play BJ switch .. enjoyed it ... lots of interesting things to think about ... when ya switch your cards would you rather have a 20 and an 18 or 2 19's against dealers 8 or 7? Very interesting game... especially if ya have good folks at the table. Mandalay bay used automatic shuffles .. other casinos did not .. when dealing switch. Mandalay Bay let ya play multiple hands ... yet mgm Grand did not. played Switch with a guy that was playing 100 to 2500 per hand x 2 ... bery interesting .. it was 100 min. BJ switch table. His swing was 50k up and down ... I was happy to take my 1400 profit and then watch him play.

Going on the Carnival Liberty for a couple of weeks ... starting the 28th .. next week. Time to play cruise BJ where anything and everything occurrs at all most tables .. and automatic shufflers all the time.

This is a very important question to answer? Splitting tens is idiot play. Why destroy the third best hand you can get in blackjack end mostly end up with two crappy hands? Idiot play in my book 24/7/365. Fools like this probably short stocks in a bull market as well. :p

wow you guys who want to play by the rules are just the ones I want to play against in a tournament. If you stick to your rules I will beat you every time. That said, in non-tournament play I would rather be at a table with players who know the game. But did you ever notice that sometimes those beginners who do dumb things really do win. Which makes it all the more frustrating when your playing your hand and doing the right moves and losing. I guess that's why its called gambling.

tournaments are an entirely different creature. In a tournament there can be only one winner, live game is a little different.

If you really want to screw with someone double down on a 5 (2-3), I did that once got lots of funny looks, but won the tourny because of that play.

What do you mean "the blackjack situation on Carnival"?

Just wondering if anyone had a recent scouting report. Are all tables continuous shuffle machines? Sounds like dealer hits soft 17.

This thread had quieted down, and I just wondered if anyone had any news.

Also, didn't know if there were any tables to clearly avoid. From the sounds of it the double exposure/dealer face up tables will kill you by taking your money on what should be a push, so I know that I will avoid those. Anything else I should be aware of to maximize my fun and my financial return?
