Socref124 Posted June 30, 2009 #5 Share Posted June 30, 2009 Actually, you need your sail and sign card and a picture ID, however, you might consider taking your passport with you. If you happen to miss the ship, you will need a passport to fly to the next port of call or to fly to the port of embarkation/debarkation. Without a passport, you will have difficulty getting on a plane.

You will need a photo ID to return to the ship in Nassau for sure.
sprockie Posted June 30, 2009 #7 Share Posted June 30, 2009 We learned a hard lesson taking only our ship ID on shore. We missed our ship in St. Thomas and had to have the port authority write a letter that allowed us to fly to Miami to wait for the ship to return to port. This was pre 9-11, and a U.S. port. I don't know if we would be so lucky now. We will never leave the ship without our drivers license, passports, and credit card. I also didn't know my credit card pin to get any cash and couldn't rent a car without a driver's license. EEEK. You just never know.

You never have to take your passport off the ship in the Caribbean. Some people will tell you that they always do but it is not required. To leave and reenter the ship itself you only need your S&S cad. Some ports, particularly, San Juan, St. Thomas, and Nassau require a photo ID to get back into the port area. Antigua and Tortola are not so strict. (The ID is needed for everyone 16 and over, a DL works fine for that purpose.)
