No more free drinks at Captain's Party?

I know I am going to get flamed for my opinion, just like G"ma, but I don't see the point of drinking 10 drinks in 45 mins even if they are watered down. It's because it's free huh?

LMHSRN & Nealstuber, I guess getting the max during the party is important to you. When Carnival starts the price increase or makes other changes because of those of you who take more than their fair share, I can hear the complaining.

Take a look at Royal Caribbean and see how the Diamond people are now screwed because of those taking advantage of the free happy hour by either drinking as many drinks as they could in the allotted time, or bringing their friends in when they didn't belong there.

As G'ma said, there are things that are ruined by greedy people. I just wish you could give some consideration to others than just be part of the ME generation.

As far as the person posting about the lobster, just wait until lobster is no longer on the menu and think of how people posted they had 16 lobster tails etc. Gluttony costs all of us, and sorry, but I think if you want more, then you should pay for it. Off my soapbox, but I know I have my flame retardant suit on.

Everyone needs to remember.. drinkers are Carnival's bread and butter. If you are drinking 10 drinks in 45 minutes than you probably already have a huge bar tab. Remember drinkers help keep the cost of cruising down for the rest of us.

There's nothing to get.

It's called lack of self control and a sense of "I can do what I want...it's my vacation".

Not hard to figure out.

WOW! Sorry I went to bed and missed the excitement. Hang in there - you are so RIGHT!

Gma your said it the best and you showed your class. I think they are doing away with the free drinks because of the rude behavior by the passengers who grab the drinks off the tray and then cause the tray to fall. I also have many cruises and don't bother with the free drink gathering anymore. I like the Princess most travelled luncheon and cocktail hour or the VIP Art parties. The folks at these events are enjoying the atmosphere and each others company and are not there to drink as many drinks as they can in a certain amount of time. I think the cruise lines hosting a cocktail party is a very nice gesture to set the tone for a lovely evening to be enjoyed by all in a glamourous fashion. However, the behavior of some passengers to consume as much as possible because they are currently free does detract from the ambience and needed to be addressed. I think the cruise lines are starting to rethink the business model and will possibly consider they need to raise the bar of class and not lower it. I believe I read most of the folks were boasting how they supported the ships financial balance sheet becasue of their large consumption of alcohol. well that's what thier bills tell them. They are the ones with the 1,000 bar bill and they think that's the big money. Well many of us enjoy the suite we stay in, the spa treatments, the casino, the chefs table, the VIP breakfast, the ultimate balcony dining, the great excursions, the fine jewelry from Facets and of course the lovely art from Global fine Arts. They have no idea where the real money comes from. Thanks G'Ma you stated most elegantly many rebuttals. I can read and see that you ARE A CLASSY LADY.

You did a great job verbalizing what many of us think.

This is from John Heald's latest blog.

Melissa Jurgensen Asked:

John please reply…

John,

I noticed you said in an answer to someone’s question that CCL was looking at the captain’s party experience.

You’re not considering stopping them like that “other cruise line” is you? Or charging/not offering free drinks? I hope not because I love the parties, seeing the officers and meeting the captain, cruise director, etc.

Concerned…

Melissa

John Says:

Hello Melissa

Nothing to worry about Melissa. There are no plans to cancel the free drinks, etc. or the chance to meet the captain and senior officers. Why…….which cruise line has done that?

There may be some adjustments soon but they will be for the better I promise. I will let you all know soon

Best wishes

John

Please tell John that on the Valor, May 31, there were NO FREE DRINKS at the captain's party.

The word "hypocrite" supposes that you know the person on whom you've placed the label. So' date=' in this case, it's misplaced. And, what the heck is [b']"ginourmous[/b]"......

Per "Webster's Dictionary".....

A word used by 13 year olds.....:eek::D:p

I just had to do that....

Folks, I really need to appologize to G'ma.

This morning, in crafting my response, I glanced at her profile and saw (68) next to her DOB. I wrongfully assumed that was her year of birth when I said we were about the same age. Now I realize she is WAY older.

I was wonderinig about a 41 year old G'ma - but I've seen another G'ma in her early 40s take the nation by storm and then ...

Getting off topic.

My parents taught me (when I was 13) to respect my elders. Sorry I did not do so here. ;)

If Carnival is monitoring this thread, and considering a change to the Captain's party... I'd like to weigh in with my opinion.

I think the free alcohol drinks can be stopped. I don't like them.

In their place, I would like to see free mixers, like sodas and juices. Also free ice.

Also, and most importantly, I would like to see a temporary allowance to carry out one bottle of duty free liquor purchase per cabin, on the night of the party.

We can all "brown bag" to the party, and have a great time. I would not mind paying for a bottle of liquor, and I would enjoy the drinks I mix a lot more than what Carnival serves.

Wouldn't surprise me a bit....and I say good for them. I'd up the price....that would week out the freeloaders and attract only those who have an interest in this lovely reception.

What used to be a special event has turned into a pig trough the last several years. Grabbing as many appetizers as possible' date=' chasing the waiters down to get "one more", drinking as many free beverages as possible.

Next to go will be the Past Guest party...thanks to those who feel entitled to bring the entire family and friends and to others who simply crash it to drink and eat free.

As usual, it's those who take advantage of things who ruin it for the rest of us.....[/quote']

you must hate the buffet as well:rolleyes:

Pop over to his blog and post this to him - that you personally experienced this and ask him to investigate after he just said they weren't doing away with it. He likes to "debunk" CC rumors, so maybe if it came directly from you who experienced it and not someone else he'll look into it. :)

He's a busy guy and doesn't always get the info right - he can't always know it all. But maybe he will correspond with the ship and find out what is going on, if they are testing this, etc.

Sorry to hear about the pins-I have 11 of them and wanted the 12th this coming December when we cruise on The Dream. I guess Carnival is more interested in cutting costs rather than keeping past guests happy with the small things-like pins.

I find it humorous that John maintains that neither are cost cutting moves.

How 'bout changing the shows out once every 10 years or so!;)

Good thing to remember, huh?

Yes - I agree you should really work on remembering that quote.

I have been practising recently for the Dream inaugural;

I had eighteen bottles of whiskey in the cellar, and my wife insisted I empty the contents of each bottle down the sink, or else. After careful consideration, I reluctantly agreed and finally proceeded with the unpleasant task.

I withdrew the cork from the first bottle and poured the contents down the sink with the exception of one glass, which I drank.

Then, I withdrew the cork from the second bottle and did likewise with it, with the exception of one glass, which I drank.

I then withdrew the cork from the third bottle and poured the whiskey down the sink, which I drank.

I pulled the cork from the fourth bottle down the sink and poured the bottle down the glass, which I drank.

I pulled the bottle from the cork of the next and drank one sink out of it, and threw the rest down the glass.

I pulled the sink out of the next glass and poured the cork down the bottle. Then, I corked the sink with the glass, bottled the drink and drank the pour.

When I had everything emptied, I steadied the house with one hand, counted the glasses, corks, bottles, and sinks with the other, which were twenty-nine, and as the houses came by I counted them again, and finally I had all the houses in one bottle, which I drank.

I'm not under the affluence of incohol as some tinkle peep I am. I'm not half as thunk as you might drink. I fool so feelish I don't know who is me, and the drunker I stand here, the longer I get.

That should see me in good condition to get through 45 minutes of the welcome aboard party.

Brilliant!

They are planning on eliminating the singers. The repeat guests will know the songs well enough that we will sing from the audience. That is why the shows run as long as they do.

I didn't read all 10 pages of this so I might be repeating...

I was on the 6/21 Valor and they DID have free drinks at a party where the captain was present, only they called it the "farewell party" instead of the "captains party."

Same thing, different night, I don't get what's to be upset about.

On our Esctacy B2B, we were determined to get a ship on a stick (never won one till Conquest last April). We went to the pool triva the first cruise; When we realized we were not going to win, we wrote down the answers. On the second leg.... Different Questions!

On the bright side, "Extreme Country" was good enough to see twice - at least with CD Steve on his fiddle and a ship full of Texans!
