Camera Trick- this might save your vacation memories

Recommended Posts

Hi All

For the second time in 2 weeks my digital camera was returned to me. I know the third time, I might be SOL.

In Mexico my camera was left and the swim-up bar and was promptly returned to the concierge.

Recently my son left his camera at the park after skating. Both cases I was contacted before real panic set in.

On the first shot on my memory card I have my contact information. I typed it them take a copy picture of it.

I know taking better care might still be a better solution.

I hope this helps someone

I am happy (and thankful) to hear that there are still people out there who turn things in when they find them and don't just run off with them.

I know there are a lot of good people out there still, but I can't help but be reminded of it when I hear stories like this.

Great Idea!!

Cruise on!

Demented -

I put one of those pre printed address labels (you know the one you get in the mail) on the outside of my camera, on the memory card, on my flash drive, on the camera case, on DH eyeglass case etc...

The possibilities are endless;)

I have both a hand strap (came with the camera) and a long lanyard attached to my camera body. I wear the lanyard around my neck and I can NOT leave the camera behind. Also I don't drop it (another favorite trick). I have also been known to dump to a CD about mid trip (usually the ship photographer will do this for only slightly above the land cost) so that I don't loose everything if camera is lost or damaged. Also I take two media cards and switch mid trip. 2nd card adds space but also can be useful for backup if one locks or erases.

This is a great idea and I plan on doing that too!

Another thing you might want to add to the info is........"If you're not going to return the camera, can you please just send me my pictures?" LOL :D

  • 2 weeks later...

Excellent idea . . . but while you're at it, don't neglect that disposable that you bought to take ashore! Label it with your name/cabin number. LOTS of those things get lost, and without a label you'll never know which of those 20 Kodak disposables at the Purser's desk is yours!

I do this also! Even the inside of my suitcase.

On our last cruise I left my cheap camera at one of the slot machines in the casino. When I went back to retrieve it, of course it was gone. I was really bummed out that someone would take a cheap camera. I didn't care about the camera, just the pictures that were one it. But then I remembered I had put my address sticker on it, so I went down to the purser's desk and lo and behold it had been turned it! .. Now, remember this was a cheap camera and they had several there. But, mine had my name & address so I got it back. The gal at the desk thought I was so smart to use the address labels.:D

Another FYI..

I broke my digital camera while para sailing in Cabo. I took the camera up with me, and was taking pictures, then all of a sudden, my pictures became pink and blurry, I couldn't take any more pictures with it for the rest of the cruise. When I got back, I took it in to get repaired, and the repair guy told me that too much wind can break the shutter piece - and thats what happened to mine. I had to buy a new one. The camera I was using was an EASYSHARE (I love this camera). So take this as a warning!

Great idea to use labels to mark some of your stuff. When I use disposable cameras, I always mark it somehow (I usually paint a heart on it with nail polish), so it's easy to recognize if it gets mixed up with other disposables.

I'm generally a paranoid person, so one thing to remember, though, about using address labels on stuff when you're travelling, is that if the wrong type of person saw that, they now have your address, and know you're not at home.

Not a problem if somebody ELSE is at your home (housesitter, for instance), but if your place is not being watched...

..

Yes I guess if someone found your camera they could call or email someone & break into your home.

Something to think about
