What's not to be missed on NCL Pearl?

Will be our first time on the NCL Pearl

 

Your favourite places and activities would be greatly appreciated to ensure we do not miss any of the ship's highlights

Our favorite activity was breakfast and lunch at Cagney's (a suite perk.) It was just so relaxed. :) Besides that, bowling at Bliss Lounge was a very popular activity for our family, especially our son who was 10 when we sailed.

 

For hanging out and watching the world go by, the Spinnaker lounge (Deck 13 fwd) was a favorite spot too.

Not for everyone, but there is a viewing room of the navigation bridge on deck 11, all the way forward on the port side. It has windows looking in to the bridge, navigation repeaters, looping movies of the building of the ship, etc. Since actual bridge tours are rare these days, this makes a nice way for passengers to get some idea of what it is like.

 

My favorite place was all the way aft on deck 12 --- the Great Outdoors. Open air and covered seating looking at the ship's wake, a bar with TV, a smaller buffet including coffee and drink dispenser area. Away from the pool noise and commotion.... I loved it for breakfast.

I agree. I enjoyed the spa while on the Jewel, the sister ship of the Pearl. Very relaxing, and you do meet some very nice people. I will probably visit the Spa on my upcoming cruise on the Pearl.

I was looking at the deck plans of the spa - is there a particular order that you go through each type of treatment or do you just hop around?

On NCL you are free to do "whatever". Ha, ha, ha. ..... :)

 

No, really ... hop around. There is a womens area, mens area & coed. Womens room had a few one person whirlpools (tub like). Sauna, ice pool, padded loungers, dressing area, showers, hair dryers etc. Coed room has the thermal pool, big whirlpool, stone loungers, rainforest shower, ice cold shower, padded loungers, cold drinks. Can't speak for the mens section.

The nicest part of the sauna on the female side was that it had windows. It was very peaceful to relax and look out at the ocean.

In addition to spending time in the Spinnaker Lounge, Bliss Lounge, and the Great Outdoors, we liked...

* Hanging out on the shady lounge chairs along a promenade.

* In the Atrium area. There is a pretty blue Dale Chihuly glass artwork piece beneath the staircase. Lots of people watching here as many activities take place. Tables of goods for sale, Wii, NCL information talk, future cruise certificate sales, music, bar, people just passing through, etc.

* Playing and/or watching shuffleboard. The court and equipment are excellent!

I agree with both of these. I will sometimes spend 1/2 hour once or twice a day just looking at the electronic maps, etc. in the bridge viewing room. (I'm a mapaholic.) However, I can't spend much more than that, because the music they play over the looping film of the construction gets to me after a while.

 

I have had breakfast every day of all three of my cruises at the Great Outdoors. Love it, love it, love it. I might pop into the buffet if I want something I can't get outdoors, but I go back out and sit there to eat.

I enjoyed walking the decks, esp. the promenade and keeping an eye out for whales. We saw a lot more this time versus three years ago. Just try a sampling of things like the Wii.

 

Don Alexander was a really good pianist/singer in Bar City next to the casino.

 

Go to the Spinnaker Lounge to view the glaciers. Stay outside in front on port side and the back of the lounge area on the port side.

 

Go really early to get a seat in the evening for the later night shows in the Spinnaker. Never had trouble in the Stardust, except the night Sharkbait performed.

 

Last, join your roll call and go to the meet and greet. The officers really do a nice job setting it up and you get invited for a tour of the owner's penthouse suite during debarkation.

The latte/cappuccino machine in the back of Garden Cafe (buffet) before you reach the children's dining area. (It helps to bring some caramel sauce so you can make your own caramel lattes.)

I absolutely agree. Definitely the best place on board, imho. They limit how many spa passes they sell so it never really gets packed but it can get busy. Sometimes when I got there all the loungers were taken but one always opened up eventually. I just lounged in the hydrotherapy pool in the meantime. I miss it so much and this is making me want to go back NOW!!

I was so glad to see this post, as I didn't realize there was a bridge viewing area on this ship. I haven't seen it on any deck plans so I'm still not exactly sure where it is, but I sure look forward to finding it!

This is the thread for me. We are planning an Alaska cruise for 2010 Fall.

 

One question. Is the Pearl well "ventillated"? My parents have never cruised before but some TA told them that the ships are stuffy and warm? I assured them it is never a problem for me but they seem totally concerned.

 

We are looking at the larger suites for the cabins with balconies for this reason. But what about the public places?

I've been on the Pearl and it's sister ship the Gem and neither of them were stuffy. I found the public areas on both to be very comfortable. The cabins have their own thermostats so if you are too warm you can just adjust the temperature.
