What in your opinion, is the best thing to do in Costa Maya?

I just got back from Costa maya (Mahahual) a week ago and had a very nice time.

We took a cab to Mahahual and had a very nice day at the beach. Its not really necessary to pay for an all inclusive here since the cost of food and alcohol is very cheap. Also, you can just walk down the main boardwoark (malecon) untill you find a nice place to set up shop for the day. There are beach chairs and tables with umbrellas, just take your pick. Beer was cheap and cold and the fajitas were outstanding at the little place we ate at. Water was beautiful and the snorkeling is pretty good from the shore.

The vendors are persistant but not pushy. At first they may bother you, but you will get used to just saying no. They will barter with you and you will get a better deal if you speak a little spanish. Also, you will get a better deal at the end of the day versus the begining.

Do yourself the favor of getting out of the tourist trap and making your way to Mahahual.

Fabulous Day!

I echo the comments made earlier. My wife and I and a large group from Liberty of the Seas went to Maya Chan and had an absolutley fabulous time. The staff is so friendly and helpful, the food and the drinks (all made to order) were just amazing. It was the best eccursion of the entire cruise. Zak took us out to the reef in Kyaks and we got to snorkel. Everyone has their own private Palapa, but we all quickly moved together to socialize. I had the most amazing massage on the beach - only $25 US.

If you are going to be stoping in Costa Maya, this is the place to go

We booked a beach break day with Otto at CostaMayaTours.com. Perz Qudro beach!

We were a group of 4 adults (3 alcohol and 1 non-alcohol) and 2 Children. (Ages 9 and 1, obviously non-alcohol). It was nice to not have to pay full price for my husband who does not drink.

We had a great day! Getting to the beach was great, Otto told us exactly what to do in an email, perfect directions.

We had great food and drinks.

I got an awesome beach massage for over an hour for $20.00. It's was wonderful.

I give them 5 stars and wouldn't hesitate to take my 1 year old. He took a great nap on the chase chairs and was in the shade.

DH & I were there the end of January with our family (daughter, her husband & our 2 grandkids) and we had the most wonderful day. It is very clean and the food is wonderful. Staff is so very friendly and they want to help you have an enjoyable day. The kids loved kayaking, playing in the water and digging in the sand with the sand toys available. We didn't get to snorkel since the water was a little rough....

BUT we have booked Maya Chan Beach again when we are going back in August with friends and will give snorkeling a go then. We had such a great time we want to share the experience with our friends.

Also, as stated, the more people you book, the lower the price.

Do you have any pictures of your day here? This is more what we are looking to do!

Thanks!

Part of our group went on a Kayak excursion through the ship and the rest of us went to Mahahual. No charge for the chairs and the service was excellent. We were able to use the restroom in the restaurant we were being served by and it was very clean. The Kayak excursion actually ended up coming to that beach, so it worked out perfectly. The water was calm enough for the little ones to enjoy and the teens enjoyed the banana boat and the wave runners. The adults had lots of seating and shade. It was a very pleasant, relaxing day with something for everyone in our group of 40+.

My husband and I just returned from a cruise that stopped at Costa Maya. We arranged ahead of time to spend the day at Maya Chan Beach Resort. It was FABULOUS!! We were met just beyond the pier, whisked away in a taxi to the resort. We were met as the taxi pulled up to the entrance and escorted into the beautiful grounds. As you enter past the gardens, there is a covered eating area, bar, restrooms, showers, lockers and a gift shop. Everyone was extremely friendly and welcoming. They also have laptops for the guests to use free of charge. (great to check your email). After the short tour, we were escorted to our "area" which was a palapa covering a beach "bed". We also had beach chairs and a small table. It was a very relaxing, comfortable spot for us. The service by the staff was outstanding. We were brought some fruit and a welcome cocktail as soon as we settled in. Then they circulated by often to offer us another drink. Chips and salsa followed later. Then lunch. What a lunch. Fresh grilled fish, beef and chicken (all were delicious) with fresh tortillas and salsas. And the best buracho beans I've ever had.

We were lazy, just read and visited with other guests. My husband had a massage on the beach, which he thought was great. They have kayaks and bicycles. They offer a tour around the area on the bikes.

All in all, it was a wonderful day. We hated to leave, but when we were ready, a taxi was waiting. It was all inclusive, but we were very happy to leave a tip in their "love box" as we left.

We will go back on our next cruise!

Thank you so much for the suggestion. We have requested reservations for 4/16 and are keeping our fingers crossed!!!!

Our family just spent the day there on March 23rd. Everything stated here by the other board members is right in line with our experience. Definitely one of the highlights of our cruise! I've posted a full review on Trip Advisor.

We were at Maya Chan on March 25th and it was great! This was after going to Nachi Cocum on the day before and wondering if we were in for a let down after the fabulous day in Cozumel at Nachi. Did not happen. We paid $49/ person and that included taxi there and back. My wife said those were the most enjoyable two days we have ever had on our 10 cruises. Our waiter was the "Z Man" who actually brought us drinks out in the water where we were floating on two "water chairs". He knew by then what we were drinking, but we did not order these, he just brought them out to us about 20 yards into the water. What service! Obviously, we left a nice tip, which they definitely earned.
