Times Prince Posted July 29, 2009 #26 Share Posted July 29, 2009 Ron, I got the same letter yesterday and it was on Princess letterhead (DH and I each received one and each letter referenced our Platinum membership number). Oddly, we each received a letter from Princess rescinding the offer two days before we received the original offer. Obviously Princess realized that player's club (whoever they are) had provided misleading information. I agree with others that "reserving a stateroom" and paying for a stateroom are entirely different propositions.
bjboothman Posted July 29, 2009 #27 Share Posted July 29, 2009 I have a question: since you got the letter how did you take it. Did you think it was also misleading like the OP did. Marilyn I didn't really scrutinize the letter as I'd already been notified that it was rescinded and yesterday I read a posting here about others who had received the cancellation letter also. But at a glance, it did sound like one of those "5 free nights at a Disney area hotel" promotional postcard that we've all received. IMHO, yes it was intentionally intended to be misleading. And I'm guessing that did not go over well, and it's the reason they cancelled the promotion.

grandmato4 Posted July 29, 2009 #29 Share Posted July 29, 2009 When I got the original letter it never crossed my mind to think I was getting a "free" cruise. I guess that was because we receive lots of offers from Casino's we've visited through the years and the use of the word "reserved" which is certainly not an unusual word to read in promotions for casinos, has never ever meant the same thing as "free" or "complimentary". Not to mention that while I certainly helped the casino's bottom line on our last cruise:eek: I certainly didn't become a major investor in the cruiseline.:D Out of curiousity, I did call to see what price they were offering as we all know the "pricing fairy" (distant cousin of the upgrade fairy) does at times sprinkle her fairy dust on pricing but not substantially in this case which was exactly what I had expected, but still worth checking out. Sorry that the OP jumped to conclusions and is planning to give up the actual cruise experience that they have enjoyed on past cruises. Much better IMHO to think of the this as a learning experience to take forward the knowledge of what the word "reserved" will mean in all other promotions they may receive from numerous companies in the future. kruisey Posted July 29, 2009 #31 Share Posted July 29, 2009 All billing for anything onboard is through your cruise card unless you are actually paying your bill through or at the end of the cruise. Therefore they know everyones spending habits and must document this...The big and small where ever it is spent on the ship and target certain groups from time to time. Personally I think that is an invasion of PRIVACY.Its nobodies business but mine if I wish to go to the casino or buy a million dollar ring in the gift shop:eek:;)

kruisey Posted July 29, 2009 #33 Share Posted July 29, 2009 What has that got to do with the OP's post?? Ron The OP frequents the casino on board part of a targeted group. If movemnt on board was not documented the OP would not have received the misleading (To their interpretation) invitation.....:)
hightownCO Posted July 29, 2009 #34 Share Posted July 29, 2009 While Princess Players club probably didn't intend this to be a free cruise, as one who reads contracts all the time - especially the fine print - I think the letter reads like it is free. That's why the hasty second letter saying it was no longer available. Probably sent on the advise of their legal department. The letter states the club 'invites me to join them on a special VIP cruise' and 'we have reserved a stateroom for you and one guest'. The fine print states member will be responsible for taxes, fees, airfare or ground trans poration, excursions drinks, gratuities, speciality restaraunts, etc -- everything you can think of except the cruise fare. Oh well, doesn't matter a bit to me as I'm already sailing. But I bet someone at PPC or Princess got their tail in a ringer over this.

In comparison: If you use any type credit card at all, the credit card company also knows exactly what you charge and how you make your payments, I don't see what the difference is in this? The cruise line doesn't make your spending habits known any more than your credit card company does. The cashless cruise method is simplified, everything is charged to your shipboard account. No money changing hands, which keeps the honest man/woman honest (staff), and keeps passengers from carrying around cash to pay for onboard charges, as well as cuts down on the paper work of balancing out 50-100 cash registers at the end of each shift. I guess I just don't understand your logic on this one, sorry.

On the posting under princess players club there were quite a few notes from people who thought it was free. there were many ways to read it but I agree I think someone will be in hot water at Princess. This doesn't fit with their usual advertising.

Entirely agree - I wondered when someone would attack that smallprint. The omission of a fare price implies that it is covered (Tacit agreement), especially after noting every other cruise-related expense that the guest is responsible for. I find for the plaintiff, and award Mosy the price of a five day cruise:D, minus costs for taxes, fees, transportation, etc.:( Princess has reserved a room for me next month, I guess they'll want me to pay for it. Rare TracieABD Posted July 30, 2009 #41 Share Posted July 30, 2009 Princess/Carnival Corp may have gotten themselves into a legal bind with this one, especially if someone(s) want to push it for litigation.

Oh, honey, I realize; it's just that, unlike you, I don't care. They can monitor my purchases of $10 "sale" evening bags, track every last martini I order (they'd need a big calculator for that), and watch me on security footage while I adjust my bra strap in the elevator, and more power to 'em. That way, they won't run out of cheap bags or Tanqueray and will keep the elevator mirrors polished on my next cruise. But hey, if you're determined to find the black cloud in every silver lining, go ahead.
