My tales from the Equinox inaugural

What has happened is that shareholder credit cannot be combined with any credit from booking on board it's one or the other

in response to a question on travel agents commission the message seemed to be prices are going to be higher, commission % lower but the ta would be better off from higher volume higher value business - not sure whether the agents present were impressed or not

This is inaccurate. I'm just off the Equinox inaugural and my account was credited with both the TA's OBC and the shareholder benefit OBC. So they can be combined.

Both are true.

You can no longer receive two OBC/SBC credits from Celebrity. You cannot receive, as uktog posts, get a Celebrity credit for booking a cruise on board and the Stock Credit, but you can receive the stock credit and a travel agency's credit for booking with the TA.

I have had, in the distant past, the good fortune of having X's $200 credit for booking a 14 day cruise while on board, a $250 credit for owning the stock and a credit from a TA to transfer the booking. It was too good to last, and it didn't.

We were on the 31 July cruise, and we thought the ship was awesome. :)

Of course you did!! I wasn't 'awed', but it was stylish.

Sadly, you didn't feel that you could attend the Sailaway that the roll call had organised, due to the fact that it was mostly Brits attending. Although there was an Oz presence, which was much appreciated!! Lovely people.

We have always had so much fun mingling on US based cruises, although I was often the only Brit amongst all the Americans.

No -one so far has commented on the "show" we saw the second night of the 2 night pre inaugural.. we have never left a show before...always enjoyed them, but we walked out on this one..it was IMO an absolute waste of time , effort and makeup! What was your opinion of it...assuming it was the same thing we saw for the 30 mins or so we could suffer? I think it was permanent..not just for one night for our benefit?

Was it the 'Broadway' type show (2 shows) , or the Cirque-type show (l show - their 'big' one!!) - weird, purple, lots of drums etc.? I love these - loved Cirque on the Connie - saw it many times and had my own part in the White Night eventually - so funny - other pax thought I was a 'plant' and was paid!! No such luck!!

However, many passengers didn't like 'Equinox' - juggler - purpley, dragon type outfits. I think this must be the one you are referring to.

The other two shows were ho hum. Broadway and West End things. Done a million times before and far better productions. The choreography left a lot to be desired. Overall, they will improve as the cast gets its act together.

All the acts we had seen before except Karen. She is an American who does impersonations of female singers - just OK although she did have lots of energy.

Thanks for your feed back on the show we saw..the weird one.... we kept thinking just had to improve...the bit that worried us was the members of the cast creeping out from under the stage curtain pre - show with elongated "arms" like slow moving giant insects and dressed in very unattractive costumes , moving amongst the unsuspecting audience members who were had not seen what was happening, and then were frightened out of their skins on finding themselves confronted by them!!!

Rolling On The Floor Laughing..

Thanks Arno...it's my age showing, just a tad! Personally If the show had been making me roll on the floor laughing I would have preferred it to being made to feel totally depressed...certainly no "here comes the sun " moment. We've never actually walked out on any X show before...so this was definitely a first for us ( and I suspect many others too if truth be told ) !

We were on Summit several years ago when the Cirque performance was first introduced. Several loud "actors" chasing one another through the audience up to the stage and the "private boxes" above in a supposed love triangle performance... followed by some rope hanging tricks. It was OK, certainly not worth seeing again. The fiasco with the make over in the top lounge on Constellation (Bar at the Edge) with the love couches and all the dangling "thingies" cost Celebrity a lot of money.

Some will love it, most will think "what in the **** was that all about?

I loved all of it on the Connie - most others..........didn't.

Can't text for the life of moi - but learnt all this rubbish on here and another horsey forum. LOL hehehehe!!!

We found the cruise rather boring:mad: - but had the advantage of wonderful scenery floating by. The elite bits'n'bobs livened it up a little. Since the Eclipse will be out of Southampton year round, if nothing else is available, will cruise on her quite happily. Lovely ship, excellent service and friendly staff. Its all there - can't understand why the facilities are not being utilised and why there was no atmosphere whatsoever.

BTW (by the way) our cabin wasn't soundproof - heard the ladies next door and communicated quite easily!! Lovely fun gals!! Fortunately, no kids or honeymooners on the other side.:D

We had it on good authority they are still in litigation re that whole "thing" ..the remnants are dismantled as far as they can but until it is all finalised they are stuck with it.Which is why we were so disappointed in this lounge area on both Summit and Constellation after sailing on ML which did not have it installed and you could use the lounge as it was meant to be used ....as a relaxing area and comfortable. We scarcely used the Bar at the edge of the earth on either of those other two ships if we could avoid it ....even if it meant missing trivia etc which was sometimes held there if they were setting up Rendezvous for something else.

We were fortunate never to actually see what the "show" there was like..probably another once in a lifetime event for us!

Hmm.... well, I was one of the very few who did like it!! However, since it obviously didn't 'take', I am surprised that they are carrying on with the 'theme'. But this new 'Equinox' is not a true Cirque show I don't think. It may well be the 'other' Cirque-type people in Florida producing this one.

I did suggest to the production team on board, that an interactive Mama Mia (complete with songsheets) might go down well. They seemed thoughtful on this suggestion!! Depends on whether the mindset is stuck on appealing only to the more staid passengers. Or it may appear on another cruiseline - hehehehe!!

I can only hope that these S-class ships, which they are rolling out very quickly, are going to be popular with an aging population which is, increasingly, young at heart!!! 70 is the new 40 - or so I kid myself:D:D

I don't think there is anything wrong with the ship - not glitzy I agree - but the whole 'feel' was fuddy-duddy!! Bit like Madeira - in a time-warp!! I just don't think these are for the 'young at heart'!! We spent a lot of time in the Casino playing the slots, but as we cruise a lot, we wouldn't want to do this all the time - even that got boring after a while. And when you do have a win - you get a ticket!!!:eek: No excitement there!! We don't play the slots to win money (not stoooopid!) - but to have fun!! More graphic bonuses with less winnings, would provide more amusement and not affect the 'take'!!!

Having been on numerous behind the scenes tours , we have heard of the gigantic cost these onboard shows need to have ploughed into them so they will " last " for quite a long time in order to get value for their cost..which is why they change the cast on a regular basis but not the show itself.

Therefore going on that theory they won't be abandoning anything that does not "suit" an audience any time soon in order to get value for the cost they must have injected here ...you have to just see it as a transitory evening's entertainment, and if you did not like it the first time you saw it , you'll plan to avoid it next trip.

It would not be a singular reason for us not to sail this ship... IMO I thought the ship was pretty spectacular with all the new "stuff" they've put on/ into it however there are more reasons for cruising (again IMO) than all the gimmicks you can find on a ship.

It's the overall experience you usually judge by, isn't it...some things we never use , somethings we always use...so you have to decide what ship has the most ticks in your preferred "yes" list .

That reminds me of the time I visited the Millennium Dome in 2000. The whole exhibition was all a bit weird, but the performers on stage, some on stilts, some in the air on cables and dressed in strange costumes had very creepy looks on their faces. Staring and moving slowly amongst the crowd it frightened some of the kids and scared the willies out of me at times too:o

Phil, this was exactly the same experience...we fortunately were in the upper level of the theatre but we saw what was going on below and watched when some audience members were caught unawares by these creeping members of the cast and frankly it could have caused quite an unfortunate "happening" ..perhaps more than X intended!

We thought it was a bit off putting ,but when we sat through the first 30 mins. of the show and it appeared to be just more of the same sort of "creepy crawley" stuff we came out...couldn't stand it any more.

This show must have cost a small fortune - probably a large fortune. But if Cirque wasn't popular on M-class why go again?

Funny thing was, there were small kids in the first and second rows (taken in late by clever parents!!). They didn't seem scared, just ran around the front of the theatre and stared up at the stage!! Nice!! Not!! Very disruptive!! Had similar experiences on other ships and its scary when you think about it, that security are not stationed in the theatre. Let's not go there!!

We feel the same about the overall experience. Lovely ship - some spectacular fittings and design. We had the opportunity to stay on for the next segment, but didn't feel we wanted to!! First time EVER for us and we cruise.......too much!! Many B2B's.

We are not young - twirlies - may be old, but not out!!!:D:D

Will probably try the Eclipse in the hope of a better allround experience. We go for the ship and not the ports - like its an upscale Butlins!! hehehehe!!!

My experience of the Equinox Inaugural was ....WOW !! and Where....??

Wow , what a gorgeous ship,[ as is the Solstice, which I also loved, ] a Wow for the crew members, [ excluding the entertainment staff ] who were amazing, and a Wow for the food.

The Where is for ...where are the things to do ? There were virtually no quizzes, and the ones they did were at 9am. [ !] no games etc, [ one Battle of the Sexes ? ] and all day long the activities were centered around spending money in the spa, visiting the gym, visiting the casino, etc. [The hot glass show is the exception ....they were entertaining and informative. ]

The biggest Where ? is reserved for where were all the great live entertainers in the evening..they appeared to entertain the 6.15 diners, then disappeared, then appeared again after 8.45 diners went in to dinner, apart from the odd times they started at 8.30 the other side of the ship from the dining room ! . This was not just for one evening...but almost every night. ! Did any one else on 2nd. sitting feel this way ?
