Vow Renewal on Ventura

Hi All,

We just wondered if anyone had ever renewed their vows on-board Ventura? or any P&O cruise ship? Is there many people that do this or get married? and we also wanted to know if anyone knew wether it would be a day at sea or one port day? any other information would be very gratefully received :)

Thank you in advance!

Hi Lacey,

We renewed our vows aboard Ventura last Oct on the translantic, they happen on a sea day, and the wedding planner confirms the date when you are onboard.

I kept this as a surprize for hubby until the night before we cruised, bought a 3/4 length wedding dress from ebay and carried it on board with my evening wear, he wore his tux. In the evening we went to Marco Whites, we were congratulated everywhere we went. It is well worth doing we had a great day and our photos are fantastic. I highly recommened it, it made the cruise even more special.

Just a word of warning about wedding and renewal official photos.

On the Ventura last week there were a number of weddings and we witnessed one couple appearing to struggle to get their photos taken on deck. The spot was aft above the Terrace pool which was a great location but the photographers had failed to plan ahead and the area, on a sunbathing deck, was full of sunbeds. There were a good few embarrassing minutes as a number of sunbathers had their afternoon disturbed. They had to get dressed, gather up their belongings and carry their sunbeds away as the bride and groom watched and waited.

Make sure your Photographers go ahead and arrange the shot before you get there!

we were one such couple having a renewal last week but no-one was embarrassed when our photographer took us outside. Actually we were very touched at how people took an interest and wished us a lovely day. Four people had to get up from their sunbeds for ten minutes but they didn't need to get dressed and they shared a glass of champagne with us - so think they felt it quite a benefit :D :D :D

Thanks, I'll check the website again but can't remember seeing anything.

Hi Crumb,

have you looked on the p & O website, they have a wedding info list, and price list. I am sure the prices are listed there.

Kdee69, do you have any info on photo package prices seen as you've just done it yourself?

Thanks for all your replies, Kdee69 did you send me those details you said about? I'm a bit rubbish on this and need to work a few things out! I really can't wait now, our wedding here was very rushed and very cheap, not the day we wanted really, and a day at sea is even better as we don't miss anything on shore :-) only 13 weeks to go.......

We renewed our vows on the bridge of Ventura whist docked in Barbados - very romantic . Flowers, cake, champagne all organised by the wedding coordinator - we then had an invitation onto Captains table for dinner after pre dinner canapes and champagne - wonderful day.

We had the official photographer and have a fantastic photographic record (and DVD) of the ceremony. Reasonable cost as all photographs printed and mounted and all on CD to print copies at home if you wish.

Hope this helps - and oh yes had my hair and nails done - excellent service from Spa - book as soon as you know the date.

Now please don't be upset by this question, but I don't understand "renewal of vows" thingies. I mean you made the vows when you got married, so surely they still stand? Why does anyone "renew" them?

On the wedding side, it must be lovely to be married on board - very romantic :-)

Not to be overly romantic (and cheesy) but in my opinion it's to reaffirm your love for one another after being married for a number of years. Also in some cases you could treat is as the wedding you never had or were unable to have!

In the case of my wife and I, we were young, with a young family, and very little money when we got married! And instead of having the dream wedding on a beach in some exotic destination we ended up with an intimate service at the local registry office, which there was nothing wrong with... it just wasn't the "dream day". Then due to work commitments (and lack of money) we never had a honeymoon.

So now, 15 years on, we can afford the "dream day", although I don't suppose either of us really wants to go to the trouble of getting divorced just to marry each other again! so the next best thing is to renew our vows.

I'm sure other people have their own reasons for wanting to renew their vows, some friends of mine renewed theirs after going through a rocky patch and having spent time at marriage guidance.

But at least this might go someway to explaining why people do it.

Do you know I never thought of that! You're quite right. I was never one for the white dress and the big wedding, in fact we ran away to Gretna the second time I did it!! Just the two of us, two friends and the dog!

But yes, I see a couple of your reasons for renewal - thank you for that :-)

  • 1 year later...

We renewed our vows couple of years ago on Aurora for our Silver Wedding. It was very special and felt just as lovely and a bit nervewracking as the first time!

Our daughter, her fiance and our friends and their son and daughter came with us and it was really a fantastic day!

Infact our friends are thinking of renewing their vows for their Ruby wedding next June. They are looking at a Fjord cruise for a week. Its usually a sea-day so does anyone know how they organise it if its just a weeks cruise with only outward and inward journeys at sea?

I've attended a renewal of vows and a wedding onboard Arcadia, they are held on sea days. Have been on Ventura and seen the wedding room - the Ivory suite. Here is a photo of it, on my Ventura album,

Thanks for those photos, we have a balcony on A deck so it was nice to see what we are going to be from your photos. Did you enjoy the ship ?

We have just reurned from a transalantic cruise on Ventura & got married on board. The wedding was held on a sea day which we choose, along with the time, prior to the cruise. Wedding times are 11am, 2pm or 3.30pm. We had a fantastic day :D. Although only me & my now husband ;) were there we still had a great day. As the bride someone collected me from my cabin to escort me to the the Ivory Suite, which was great as I could have ended up anywhere. Had female escort who also helped with zipping up of my dress as husband to be was already in the Ivory Suite & had not seen my dress. I had no flowers, cake or photographers, although you can arrange these on board. Photo's were pricey for just the 2 of us could not justify the cost. Although we did not speak to a photographer we were told by other bridal parties photo's started from £500!!!! You get a time to meet the wedding co-ordinator days before the service to ensure paperwork is all correct etc. I had hair & make up done by Amanda at the spa with a trial appt few days before. Had champagne after the service with the Captain & witnesses (P&O staff) who also took some photo's with our own camera's. We had meal in White Room in evening which was fantastic. As I kept my dress on all day & evening (including in the disco) we had alot of attention & few drinks brought for us, it was great & we loved every second of it & did not want it to end. Even days after people recognised us & were still congratulating us. For us it was perfect :D

Although this is a old thread, which has just re-surfaced, amazingly I was on Ventura again only yesterday and confirm the ship is till looking good.

You asked about tables? being dressed? Well, no they aren't. A wedding meal isn't included in the package, but you can book The White room (Marco Pierre Whites supplement restaurant) for your meal after for your guests, and no doubt they may dress the table.... I have been to a renewal of vows and a wedding onboard. After the photo graphs we just went on into sea day lunch in the main dining room and were shown a normal table, although the bride and groom were clapped into the restaurant by the waiters and in turn all the seated diners joined in the clapping which was lovely.

In the evening we had a meal at Arcadian Rhodes onboard Arcadia where the wedding was held and had a lovely meal with champagne, Presume just the normal supplement is paid.

It was a lovely day for the bride and groom, a wedding planner will discuss all your arrangements and requests before the wedding,

It's lovely to read these replies and views as we are re-newing our vows on the Aurora next year after 30years of marriage. We only had a quiet wedding with no honeymoon, have had a few low times with health issues but just want to re-affirm how we still care for each other after all these years. I know we don't need to, but, it will only be the two of us, and, we feel it will be as precious to us as our wedding day.
