V and S Posted August 3, 2009 #1 Share Posted August 3, 2009 There were 4 large earthquakes off the coast of Baja today--the largest being 6.9!!! Having experienced the 6.9 Loma Prieta quake in 1989, I thought of those who might be doing a Mexican Riviera cruise today. I remember when we took the Sapphire in March we were passing exactly by that area on Monday at noon. http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20090803/ap_on_re_la_am_ca/lt_mexico_quake

SDPadreFan Posted August 4, 2009 #3 Share Posted August 4, 2009 The quake occurred in the Sea Of Cortez, not the Pacific Ocean. They were probably about 600 miles north of the Cabo area. It won't have any effect on any cruise ships operating in the Pacific Ocean.
househunter Posted August 4, 2009 #4 Share Posted August 4, 2009 According to some of the people I know on tripadvisor.com, nothing was felt in the Cabo area at all.

babies12 Posted August 4, 2009 #6 Share Posted August 4, 2009 It was felt in Phoenix though. Here in Los Angeles, I work in a high rise and our building just started making creaking and cracking noises. We all couldn't figure out what the heck it was and I thought we are having an earthquake. Sure enough, a few minutes later we found out about it. Our building 56 story's high is on rollers. Although we didn't feel the actual quaking, the ground was sure moving. Very eary and scary.
