After reading a recommendation for a private tour in Cochin, I emailed George at director@keralavoyages.com and he has just been fantastic.

Here is what he has come up with for us and I just can't wait til our trip.

Drive to poothotta Backwater Village (45 minutes drive from Cochin Harbour) for a Guided Village Backwater Cruise through an island village to watch the backwater village life followed by lunch at a farm house. Afternoon for visit of Kumbalangi Model Tourism Village. An early dinner at a heritage restaurant on the Kumbalangi backwaters. Return to your boarding point by 8pm.

Kumbalangi is a village in Cochin, 13km away & it is identified as the first model fisheries and tourism village in India. Experience a ride by an auto rikshaw through the narrow country roads from the main road you can see the village folk engaged in different activities for their livelihood, may be a woman in her village provision shop, a farmer in his paddy field, a fisherman spreading his net, a kids with a fishing net...it goes on.

Just be careful about the shopping. The tour guides love to take the people shopping. They'll take you to friends and relatives shops. It's part of the culture. If this is something that you don't want to do or just want to spend a little time doing it, be sure to specify time frames.

 

I think it would be benefiical for you to post after the tour as well so you can let us all know what you actually thought of it and if it met or even exceeded your expecations.

 

Have a great time. We've been to Cohin in 2008 and will be there in 2010.
