How is the "Enterprise Car Rental" at San Pedro Port?

I'm taking a cruise arriving to San Pedro and plan to rent a car to drive around LA and disneyland, and then finally one-way drop off at LAX to fly back home. How is the general experience for the Enterprise at San Pedro? My other option is Hertz at Lomita (seems like these are the only 2 close by ones).

I've read bad things about this location, but the comments were quite old (2007 or earlier) so I'm just curious if it has improved. I'm in a dilemna of renting either at this San Pedro Enteprise location (MUCH more convenient, but probably more busy) OR Hertz at Lomita. Does it get very very busy on the saturdays where cruise usually all arrive? I'm thinking Hertz might be much less busy since that one is abit further away.

I'm leaning towards Enterprise in terms of price because for Hertz, you have to add about $23 per day extra to drop off one way (they have one way rates). For enterprise, there seems only to be a one time fee and i BELIEVE it is $25 extra to drop off, can anyone confirm?

Thanks a bunch!

This is pretty late, so I'm not sure if you have cruised already or not.

Enterprise charges a $40 drop off fee (I believe that was the cost - I know it was more than $25). I did the rental in reverse this past June - rented from LAX, dropped off in San Pedro prior to boarding the cruise ship.

There were no problems with the Enterprise in San Pedro. My drop off was very smooth. I went in the office to find out where to actually drop the car off (lot is behind the hotel around the corner) and didn't notice any problems.

i keep hearing that enterprise will charge for droppong off, but the agent I spoke to said there will be no additional charge....

so who's right? Do I have a fight to get prepared for when I return the car in San Pedro? and what hotel can I drop it off to? I thought it was an "enterprise' location!

I would never use or recommend Enterprise to my worst enemy. They are not a trust worthy company. Regardless of what you're told on the phone you will be charged a drop off fee for a one way rental. Another option besides the previously mentioned car rental companies is Avis in Long Beach. They are located on Pacific Avenue. And NO drop off fee.

When I called Enterprise about a one way rental for our cruise in November, they told me the drop off fee was $80. But their rental charge for one day was only $24. I guess you can offset the total cost with the cheaper daily rate. But it doesnt sound like they got it all together by the comments on this board.

Leoandhugh: I called the Doubletree about a car rental/return there. They said they have a Enterprise desk in the lobby.

I used Avis on Pacific this winter and dropped the car in AZ...no drop charge however I was a using a Costco code. They don't shuttle back and forth to pier so a cab fare will run you $20 plus tip.

That was exactly the information I was looking for. I have just finished looking up how much to rent a car from Avis (read the same things as posted here about Enterprise) at LAX and drop at Pacific Ave. I was wondering how much the cab fare would be to the port or if they had a shuttle. Thanks!

Is the Pacific location easier to get to than Old Sepulveda Village?

No shuttle but they will call a cab for you. Fare should be around $20.00 + tip.

We just got back from our cruise yesterday. We rented one-way from LAX to San Pedro with Enterprise. We called a "one-way" only phone number for California and did not have to pay any drop fee. We paid around $40 for the rental for a 24 hour period and upon returning the car to San Pedro..they provided a quick shuttle ride to the pier..no cost..just tipped the driver.

KCJO,

Do you possibly have that number? Or remember where you found the number?

we're renting for 3 days.... less than $100 for the 3 days + were told no drop off charge, but better safe than sorry- these boards are making me a BIT worried now... I need to make sure I have it in writing!!! ;o)

Hello,

Make absolutely sure that you have a written confirmation with you from Enterprise or any other car rental company with all the particulars. Car rental companies will usually e mail you a written confirmation. And since it is free, join the frequent renters program from Enterprise or the other car rental companies.

I just called to confirm my reservation with Enterprise since you all got me so nervous!!!

Long story short.. I had had an economy.... searched the actual website and got a $69 cost for 3 day rental from LA to San Pedro. I literally upgraded to a MIDSIZE for $5 more!! with drop off at San Pedro. I am confirmed. With email confirmation. (granted my rates might be low because I am going end Sept/Oct.

TIP: Look up online first what the rate would be. THEN call the number and let then know what rate you got!!!

I called the same number you wrote KCJO: 866-207-8836 which is the one way rental number.

I hope you all have success! Please post if what result you did get! Just curious!

I will report when I return what my results were.

KCJO - My impression is that there is an Enterprise location on 6th Street in San Pedro and also locations at Crowne Plaza and Doubletree. Where did you drop your rental? Also, could you please share the Sam's code that you used? I can't seem to get anyone at the Sam's Travel Center that knows the code. Also, thanks for the CA. one-way #.

The 6th Street location and Crowne Plaza are actually the same one location. I believe the Doubletree just has a booking desk located there but no office, as such, for pick up and drop off, as in the CP office.

Great website. Thanks

I see you are on your cruise now. Hope you are enjoying

Yes and we're back! We LOVE LA .... car rental was WORTH it!! Cruise was perfect! Thank you!

Now for my pay-it-forward review...

The car rental was very good.

After your flight you go outside baggage and wait under the purple sign for the Enterprise Bus which takes you to their office which is about 10 minites or so away. There was a good amount of wait, about 20 minutes, but the line went quickly. We had a few choices to pick from so we got the Escort. Very nice.

We were able to drop off the car in the back parking lot of the hotel (my mind is blank- it's mentioned in this thread) . We got picked up by a little Enterprise bus, after waiting maybe 10-15 minutes b y the curbside whcih took us directly to the pier.

We did NOT get charged for the different drop off from pick up at LAX/ drop off San Pedro. We DID make sure to get it in writing via email.

We also did NOT get charged for the bus ride to pier.

Car rental- 3 days- $72. A GREAT deal! Go Enterprise!

Just curious - who did you speak with at Enterprise in order to get the Drop Off fee waived? I just called over there and they said they don't have that anymore? Was this a recent trip? Did you get it in writing?

Thanks in advance for your advice! :)

I just called the enterprise number... (I'll need to look back on the actual number I called- ).... and I didn't ask for the fee to be waived. I basically told them I see a 3 day car rental from LAX for [the current price when I checked] and I want to drop off at San Pedro. I kept checking the site as it got closer and actually was able to upgrade car from economy to mid-size and for LESS. I then just requested an email confirmation with all the info in case they wanted to charge me.

When we turned in the car, no one charged us... and they guided us to the driveway for the FREE transfer, no questions asked.

We were prepared in case they'd charge for different drop off since the sites all stated it but I had my EMAIL confirmation to possible argue it.

And was also prepared to pay for a cab to terminal.. but they guided us to the transfer bus area. Again, no extra charge!!! AND I had my email confirmation.

Do not ask if there is a charge. Tell them you'd like to pick up at LAX and drop off at San Pedro. Tell them the price you saw it for (do a http://www.kayak.com search maybe for car rentals maybe and see what Enterprise is charging through their site). If you do no like the Enterprise person's answer, call back the next day- get another 'sales person'. You can cancel up to 24 hours prior, too, so be vigilant about checking prices!

ALSO>>> I did the same with my airfare and even though I did not get $$ refunded, I now have $45.00 worth of credit for the NEXT time I use my favoritr airline choice, Jet Blue. Most other airlines tell you "Awww. Sorry!"

Oh yeah.. My trip was Sept 30, 2009 through Oct. 10, 2009- We JUST went!!!

PLEASE post if you had luck. I am very curious!!

Have hired an Enterprise car from LAX thru Hotwire which unfortunatly only gave me the option to drop back to LAX. Obviously I would prefer to drop at San Pedro (without a fee).

Any idea of the best way about this, calling Hotwire, calling LAX, calling San Pedro or playing dumb and querying it on arrival LAX.

Obviously I would prefer to have some written clarification before picking up the car.
