  1. That is the rule of the sea - any vessel will assist another in distress. We were on board an RCI ship a number of years ago that rescued 8 Cuban refugees from a small boat that sank shortly after they were brought on board. A US Coast Guard cutter came along side at midnight and transferred the refugees, who had been medically checked, fed, and given RCI crew overalls, on board the cutter and returned them to Guantanamo Bay.

I'm pretty sure I was on this cruise, it was the Freedom. I wasn't aware of the transfer at midnight though.

And yep, he's correct, it is a Maritime law.

  2. The Taxi fare estimate is $110-115. I could see it being off some but double? Where do you get $230 for Taxi from Hobby to Galveston?

The taxi estimate is for one way

    Thus for return it's double...;)

FYI: with Galveston limo, hobby to Galveston return is only $40.

  3. Guys, it's not a big deal. Link both reservations together, ie contact Royal or your TA. Then once on board, go to guest services and have the passengers changed. I've done it twice before and it was no big deal. We just let them know that we were all in the same party and wanted to switch rooms.

    Easy peasy.

  4. I think I know who your TA is (if they use Shatner for their ads) and their policy on cancellation is to keep $100 that you can use towards a future cruise. I have done this before. If you get the right agent (I've used the same one for 10yrs) then you will have no problems. That TA gives great bonuses/perks, thus why I've stayed with them.

If this is your TA, pm me and I'll get my rep to take over your account and make things right.

(My cruise in Nov gave us free grats, plus $300obc and a free hotel night.)

FYI: I've stayed in the JS and the Superior on the Allure. Unlike what someone said above, the space is incredibly different. Don't get me wrong, the Superior was great, but if your looking for space, then the JS is it. Unfortunately it usually costs quite a bit more.

  5. Got Al"lured" into this thread as well! Was going to be shocked on anything negative with this ship. My wife and I have been through the the ranks with the ship classes and Allure is by far my favourite. We did our first one with friends and loved it so much, that we brought the kids the next time around. It was perfect for a 4 and 6 yr old.

I could seriously spend my entire days on the patio at Vintages or the Rising Tide. It's just great relaxing atmosphere.

FYI, someone mentioned the Epic and not liking it. Epic is a unique ship and the only one of its class. It is definitely not for everyone. But there is no way you can compare it to the Allure. Completely different style.

(Although, I did love Cirque and being able to order wings at the pub!)

  6. I think the quality is ship based, my chops experience on Brilliance, Liberty and Mariner (x3) were Ruth's Chris quality. On Allure, more like Keg.

Crossing my fingers that Liberty is up to snuff from 10 yrs ago.

And, man do I miss Portafino. I've never had a better Tiramisu, anywhere. And I lived in Italy!

  7. I emailed about getting a foam topper for our upcoming Liberty cruise.

    Here's the response:

    Hello,

Thank you for contacting us with this information. We have gone ahead and made the appropriate notations in the reservation. We will place a mattress topper on the day of sailing.

Please be advised that we do not have foam toppers.

    Best regards,

    Crossing my fingers!

  8. Yes to both places.

The Belize dive is very expensive. Around $185 pp

It is worth doing once but I would never spend that kind of money again.

Not enough bottom time because too many of the divers are new.

    I loved the dive.

And Cozumel, I always dive privately.

I use Aldora. They use steel tanks and max out air 3500 psi.

    Almost everyone dives Nitrox

Last dive with them in June....bottom time 86 mins. Max depth for me 75 feet

Most of the time at 45 to 55 feet for most of the divers. I was around 55 ft

    For most of the dive.

    +1 for Aldora!

I'm hoping to possibly get some time with bull sharks this year but it may be too early.

  9. Unfortunately we weren't on the ball enough to realize the new drink packages just went into effect. Our TA sent us the new PDF. Doing the math, if both of us bought the top tier one that includes alcohol we'd each have to drink 5 alcoholic drinks per day to break even, and even on a honeymoon we won't be able to do that. So we're going with the Replenish or whatever it's now called and buy wine/beer/cocktails as we go when we want. We're embarking from Venice so we'll get 2 cheap bottles of wine to bring on board with us. It's too bad they took away some of the other options but I kind of like the simplicity of only 4 choices. We have never cruised before, so I have nothing to compare it to.

You realize it's not just about the alcoholic drinks, it's ALL drinks. With that freedom, it's definitely worth it. IMO

  10. Ask your stateroom attendant for a bucket and ice.

This is the first thing we always do. If anything, we just want ice for any of of drinks.

The second thing we do is get the steward to give us a bag to remove everything from the fridge. We tie it up and put it under our bed and make sure he/she knows. Then we adjust the fridge to allow our bottle to fit!

  11. If your a diver, do it here! It's Bull Shark season and they are amazing.

Also, atving here is great - very fast and can be very muddy, which I love.

This time around, my wife and I are doing a jeep ride and Pasion Isla beach- 5hrs for $75.

Also, I've heard nothing but great times with the Amazing Race Cozumel
