  1. The martini bar, after 2 or 3,gets quite noisey, but the biggest distraction is when the "disk jockey" sets up and starts his bom bom machine, that's when I have to leave,or put in ear plugs !

Some of us like a Bom Bom machine. But then I’m one of those annoying DJs [emoji6]

  2. For UK vodafone wifi calling..

    • If you make any calls to UK mobiles or landlines over Wi-Fi whilst roaming, your calls will be charged in accordance with your usual UK bundle and treated as if you’ve made the call from the UK. This means if you have uk minutes included when at home you can use these for free calling home from abroad :)

  3. To me it looks like Celebrity are getting confused with Royal Caribbean and adding gimmicks rather than focusing on a quality product. The magic carpet seems to stand out like a sore thumb, making the ship look very unbalanced. I have my doubts about the mechanism for the magic carpet and virtual balcony 'windows' in a salt air environment and can see them becoming a maintenance nightmare in the making, and bi-fold doors tend not to be very durable.

It will be interesting to see what the public areas are like, as these are pretty important to the majority of passengers.

  4. We have just returned from our first Cunard cruise, a 3 nighter on QE. Had a great time but we were really underwhelmed by the food in the MDR. The portions were small, we didn't mind that too much and everything was tasty, however the choices were limited and what we had was very ordinary. It was not a patch on the excellent food that we had on Princess a few years ago. We are on QE in March on a section of World cruise. Do you think they lower the quality on these shorter cruises or has quality of food generally deteriorated?

I was on a 3 nighter in November and noticed exactly the same. The main restautraunt food was nowhere near the quality, or had the choice available that I have experienced on Cunard in the past. In my opinion the highest quality food on the ship was either room service or the self service in the evening. This was the first time in over 60 cruises that I chose not to dine in the main restaurant after the first night. Such a shame. I found the food in the Golden Lion was as good as ever though.

  5. I got an email last week about 2018-19 cruises but the rep. I spoke to said they went out to the high ranking members on Thanksgiving day. I booked a November 2018 cruise already and several room categories were already sold out.

Sadly as always I have not received a single email re the new sailings. It's seems elite plus is not high enough these days [emoji51]

  6. Just to confuse you further, we do not find the O ships roll more or less than comparable size ships.

Agreed. I was on Riviera in October and did not notice it rolling any more than other ships. The vibration from the fixed propellers when manauvering was however pretty bad compared to Celebritys pods. We were shaken out of bed each morning as the ship was berthing.

Loved the food on O and though Toscana was amazing. Red Ginger wasnt really to my taste but Jaques was wow! Loved the Terrace grill with table service but found the terrace cafe did not have as much choice as we are used to on the 'S' class and closed very early after lunch (2 or 2.30pm)

Entertainment was pretty lacking with a single fairly simple show each evening and that was it. Ship seemed to go to sleep early in the evening.

I would recommend Oceania for port intensive cruises, as getting on and off fast with only 1200 onboard is easy. I would not want to have multiple sea days in succession though as feel I would start to get bored.

  7. I spoke to my X cruise consultant today after putting 2 cruises on hold...online it just allowed the $300 OBC. He said that they really are still offering Big, Better, Best at different price points on newly released cruises but website has a glitch...WHAT A SURPRISE! Apparently it defaults to one perk and is always the OBC. Obviously the T/A's still no perks to speak of.

And yes if you try to book anything since sometime late AM today you get a message they are all sold out of any category which is not true. Good old X website I guess.

Unless you are in the UK then there are zero perks available :(

  8. Hi,

I was on QE last weekend and upon checking my bank account when I returned home I have had two debits from Cunard. One that matches my onboard account perfectly, and a second random £22 debit. Has anyone else had this happen? I have called Cunard who have put it through to another department to check.

    Many thanks

  9. Hi,

Were you onboard 16 - 26 October? We were on that cruise.

Really enjoyed our first experience of Oceania. The dining and service was great, although we did find several drinks / food orders forgotten. Waves grill was so civilised too. Loved it.

Overall a great cruise, with great ports.

I did find tour costs almost insultingly expensive, espacially given that they were the same tours offered on other cruise lines for half the cost. My favourite was the kind offer of a coach transfer to Barcelona airport for $89. We paid 40 euros for 3 of us in a private taxi!
