  1. Local help needed here……my suggestion is to not miss a loop of coastal road north of Hilo. It is called the 6 mile road, or the 4 mile road or something like that. It is narrow and RIGHT a on the cost through a bona fide rain forest with places to,stop and marvel at the dense vegetation etc. also a fun stop for amazing ice cream on the left going north! You can reverse it too if you didn’t get enough to marvel at on one go! Also, orchid farms on the south side of Hilo worth a look. Another big favoutite of ours is the planetarium…..reallynwelll done program of interest to all. good lunch in cafeteria. Program we saw showed all the satellites in orbit around the earth….what a traffic mess! Enjoy your stay. Lave tubes neat. Drivin all the way down to the end in Park is rather underwhelming we found….you get the idea after about 10 minutes.
  2. We changed one cruise to another. Deposit had been paid with purchased gift credit. It was changed to pay the deposit on the second cruise instantly by our TA in conversation with Princess. They considered it a change, not a cancellation which apparently made it easier. I have no idea if fcc and purchased cc are dealt with in 5he same way. YMMV.
  3. If they cancel, one suspects they will have to give you extended time to use your credit. I mean……really!
  4. Yep…I agree! We will use ports to say “ it’s beautiful and we’re having a ball”, otherwise will assume all is well in our extended world. If needed, we will go.
  5. On Zuiderdam inI late June. Enjoyed new content of Rollingstone. BBK had run its course for us….same old, same old, and very loud. Although only,55 % full, it was a happening place every night as was the piano bar. Highlight for us was Dancers in the theatre…..amazing repertoire and three programs all very different from one another. Much more entertaining than the full production program of yesteryear for us. They were really very good!
  6. Thank you so much. I looked everywhere! We are platinum, so even get that benefit. Hope we don’t need to use it!
  7. On Hawaii 15 day return cruise out of SF. No plans to stay connected onboard. Will use ports mid way to see what’s up at home online. Of course if emergency they can phone us onboard. Question? If action by us is needed can we buy a day or two of wi fi to take care of situation. Do not want to have to use phone connections at many dollars per minute to get/ give info to those at home. Cannot locate answer to this dilemma. Do you know, and what is cost. Will have phone and tablet with us. Thank you.
  8. Feb/23 Royal Princess in Honolulu from 7:00 am until midnight the next day, so two full days of sightseeing. Plan on renting car for 2 days. Return 8 pm ish on second day. Any idea about safe parking overnight near port? Thank you.

  10. We too used life centres.ca. Very professional and easy to do. results in hand within 10 minutes. Calgary based. No problems with accents which can be a problem for me and my hearing aids. I always feel so badly asking for repeats.
  11. Thank you. Chose Chelsea inn pre and Beresford arm for two night post. Decided to stay a couple of days extra just to mooch around and see a little. Never know when you’ll get there again! Hoho bus good?
  12. I tested posative when we tested online two days before our May 18 Alaska cruise. We cancelled our cruise and rebooked for same trip on June 15. No problem with Hal doing that. My DH tested positive 3 days later. We wanted to use the same postive testing so had him tested again online to get a positive result. We boarded in June as recovered persons. No need for any documentation other than online report from lab saying we were posative on dates of test which were between 10 and 90 days prior to boarding. We had to see a nurse and signed documents we were symptom free. We had printed out the HAL online question and answer to this positive test issue. Remember this was early in the season, and the ground crew was somewhat confused, but we knew we were okay and just kept showing the HAL printout. The only difficulty was with some who wanted to make us do both the ways of passing the positive test……they did not see that lovely little word “OR” until it was pointed out. Just keep asking for a supervisor…..I assume by now they have met many formerly positive people who are fine to travel by the rules laid out. Good luck to all…..it was a dandy trip!
  13. Thank you for your insight. How long is the trip from port to airport? Is a flight at noon doable?
  14. Arrive day before. Assume Uber to hotel, then to port. Any recommendations for clean, safe hotel within reasonable distance os ship. Suggestions for transport from ship back to airport? Never been to SF!

  16. How long is the trip to sfo from the port? Rough cost? Thx
  17. I am wondering if this was sent to those on the Whittier Vancouver run which DID announce they would have these restrictions due to the embarking passengers from the bus tours they had just completed overland. But only on the one way Whittier/ Vancouver voyage both directions as I understood it. The other journeys had only the recommended mask usage as noted. Could this be a bee in a bonnet?
  18. Can you use verify if you have had a positive Covid test, but are now considered recovered by HAL (and Princess) as you are in the 10 to 90 day post Covid that they allow? Have proctored test results to show that. Do so hope we can…shorter lines are so nice!
  19. I’d suggest sailing out if Vancouver. If on HAL you will go north and south on the east side of Vancouver Island which has wonderful views. If you leave from Seattle you go up and down on the west side of Vancouver island where you are so far from shore you don’t even see land. Makes a huge difference as the scenery is close and spectacular. Imho
  20. I see no reason to doubt it would be fine. No one has reported any problem at all. It is an approved proctor Dwight and as long as you use an approved test there is no question. No doubt on their site younhave seen all the types of rests they will verify. if you are Canadian any of the provincial rapid green boxes are great
  21. Remember to consider the dressy nights in the main dining room. You may want to go to the Pinnicle on one of the other nights as the dining room does a little bit extra on the dressy nights!
  22. Radbrooks….good for you to try to get the real story…good idea to compare. This ladies issue was she was already there…….now what should she or the guide or staff do so as to not ruin the day for everyone? I bet you’d join her for tea!
  23. I think she should have been offered a comfortable place to have a cup of tea, until the group got back, or escorted back to the bus where she could wait inside, or returned by cab to the boat. Where were her partners or family In All this? If alone, shore excursion should have noticed when she booked. I have some issues and would never put a group in jeopardy for my inabilities. I have been the one to suggest all the above remedies for myself when a n excursion has been more than it sounded like it would be on a couple of occasions. No problem for me, HAL, the. Stafff or the other people. it’s actually fun sitting in a foreign country, having an espresso at a sidewalk table for an hour all by yourself waiting for your friends!
  24. The original posted letter from HAL stated that there was more than one cruise tour cancelled and went on to say the list was at the end of the letter. My letter did not show such a list. Does anyone know what other cruise tours and dates were affected by this? What a tragedy for the people involved and the industry who is trying to stay alive. Good luck and happy outcome to all.
  25. If anyone currently aboard should pass guest services and find it free, could you do those of us coming behind you a huge favour? Ask how many are booked on the June 8 and June 15 cruises.......and then report back here. just curious as to what the density of folks will be on our cruise. Thanks so much. Do hope we get some of your glorious weather!
