  1. So sorry to hear about Jenny--shocked, really, as we've known her since we started sailing on the Gem 9 cruises ago. To us, Jenny WAS NCL, the Gem, family all rolled into one. Great lady.

We met Tony for the first time in January, when he came on while Jenny was on vacation. He's the nicest guy! We're on the Gem again next week, so looks like we'll meet Sonja. Will report back on the staff. Do know that Carlos is back on the Gem after his vacation.

Yes very sad that she is gone. You will get to meet Sonia and yes Carlos is back.

  2. Spoke with Jenny yesterday she is not going to another Cruise line she will be land based in her home of Malaysia. I think everyone needs to realize the big picture, it's really hard to be away from your family for long periods of time. I am sure she will be a major success in her new endeavor she is amazing.

Many crew memebers including Ryan one of our favorite concierges have made a decision to watch their children grow up and not be far away . There are many huge resorts opening in the Philiipines and in Malaysia that are getting some great talent!

We are so happy to call them friends let's not blame this on NCL along with everything else in the world. Changes happen people. I am sure everyone out there has changed jobs in their lives!

Perfectly said!! There is no place like home!!

  3. The two of them are probably following Sinan to Celebrity. He recently posted lots of pictures on his facebook account with the three of them 'vacationing" together.

I told my wife not to be surprised if Jenny left but she didn't think it would happened. So once again, honey, I am right (Only second time of my 26 year anniversary to her)

You are still 1 in 26. Lol

  4. OMG, for real - oooohhhh no. Just kidding, right ?? Tell me this is April 1st. and you are just kidding.

They are leaving NCL for good and moving on ?? I surely can appreciate their choices & decisions to not renew/find alternative paths to their careers. We sailed the GEM right after Sandy ... the teams under their wings are among the best of the best.

I would love to say it is a joke. Sadly for us, it is not :(

  5. Today we say goodbye to two of the best family members of the Norwegian team. Hotel Director Jenny Lim and EHK Tess. Many of us have seen these two woman working very hard throughout the years to make their guests (us) very happy. I appreciate all they have done over the years for us and wish them both the best of luck in their future endeavors. I know where ever they go they will make many happy. Very difficult day for many of us.

Good luck to you both, Jenny and Tess!!

  6. I should have checked Cruse Critic prior to booking. We decided to go on the Norwegian Gem over Christmas and booked directly with Norwegian. We cruised the same ship two years prior and our kids kept busy with the Rock Climbing and Miniature Golf. Unfortunately the cruise agent did not let us know that:

Rock Climbing CLOSED for entire cruise

Mini Golf CLOSED for entire cruise

Basketball CLOSED every evening and for two days during cruise.

When we complained onboard the assistant cruise director told us the travel agent should have informed us. As we booked direct with Norwegian there was not travel agent and the cruise consultant did not tell us about any closures.

Only compensation offered was a small onboard credit if we cruise Norwegian again.

WILL NEVER CRUISE THIS LINE AGAIN.

    Sorry you were misinformed.

Only the Rock wall was unavailable and one golf putting area on the port side. Golf putting area was open on the Starboard side of the ship.

Sorry you booked a cruise to climb the wall and didn't get to. But everything else was available.

  7. Correct, on the US site. It has been announced on the UK site.

Further down in the small print under specialty dining:

*Cover charge subject to change at any time. Please note that we charge 18% gratuity. Not all dining options are available on all ships. You can see which restaurants are available on each ship here. The Dining Terms & Conditions of Norwegian Cruise Line apply. Teppanyaki (on bord N. Spirit and N. Sun) ,Ginza Asian Restaurant (on bord N. Star) and Sushi Bar (on bord N. Star, N. Spirit, N. Dawn, N. Jade, N. Sun, N. Jewel, Pride of America, N. Gem and N. Pearl) can not be pre-reserved.

Thank you, I am also looking right at it in my Freestyle Daily from the Gem.

  8. I think he means the golf cage. I always find it amusing when someone only cruises for something like a golf cage. They have those at resorts and local towns much less expensive. I sailed on the Gem at Christmas and it was amazing !!

  9. I really wish they would update the 360° virtual tour option on the web page for the gem. It still has blue lagoon, the old maderno on deck 8, and the old furnishings in the spinnaker lounge.

They may be waiting for after the official Dry Dock to do so?

  10. Is the elevator to the Haven, key access only on the Gem? I see they have doors to the hallways that are keyed. They do not have those door on the Pearl, only the elevator and all doors leading to the Haven are keyed. I just wanted to make sure if we did the DOS we wouldn't have a privacy problem and I didn't want to start another thread for a quick answer.

    Thank you

Yes, they have key access in elevator as well as on deck 14 midship doorway.
