1. We used Princess transfers for our Alaska cruise RT Seattle and absolutely loved it both ways. We flew in for a two night stay before we sailed and was transported to the hotel (booked with Princess) with no problems...what we really loved was the luggage pick up from our room at 8 a.m. and cruise check-in in the hotel lobby...we didn't see or handle our luggage again until it was delivered to our cabin...we also boarded with all the elites, platinum and suites ahead of all the long lines...sweet. :)

Then at the end of our cruise we did Princess transfer again with flight check-in on board...loved that as well. We were shuttled to the airport and had a private Princess/Holland America TSA screening and then shuttled to the main terminal behind that TSA screening and long lines...we didn't see or touch our luggage (after boarding the shuttle) again until we picked it up at the carrousel in our home airport...what a way to fly. :)

We will definitely use Princess transfers again when possible.

Sorry that the OP had a bad experience when they cancelled their transport...did you call back to speak with a different rep? Sometimes that helps.

  2. I have tried to find the answer to my question by using the search without success. I am trying to figure out if all Lido balconies at the front of the ship are covered or uncovered. Specifically L248. Trying to book a cabin for my son and wife and this will be their first cruise ever. I would want it to be covered, but need to look elsewhere if it is not..

Thanks for any information you can give me..

Hi teachergal...you have probably already booked by now...but we were midship on Baja Deck for Alaska in 2010 and the balconies were completely covered...the Lido deck looks at least partly covered.

As for motion on a cruise ship the lower decks have less motion as does mid ship...forward and aft get the most movement.

Hope this helps and isn't too late. Enjoy your cruise with your son and daughter-in-law.

  3. The Funtimes are in pdf format. I am unable to post pdf files here. If you follow the link, it should direct you to a page to sign up for free membership. (you only need to give an email address, no name or personal info) Once you do this, you should be able to view the photos.

I also tried to upload them in another section of CC that allows pdf's, but the file sizes were too big. Posting Funtimes has always been a challenge on these Boards. I saw a post last week that said Carnival was going to begin posting Funtimes, since there is such a big demand for these.

If you have signed up for the website, and it still doesn't work, then let me know. Also, if someone has had success, please let me know that too.

    Hi mpcaruth....

Enjoyed your review and photos a lot...gives me some ideas for our cruise next year on the Freedom.

I registered a few days ago at KeepAndShare and couldn't acces the docs...so waited for a while and tried again today...I can get to your page but the only docs that are there are instructions on how to create a document and driving instructions.

Can you think of anything I am doing wrong to access your documents?

I know it is a huge challenge to upload the Funtimes...so do appreciate your efforts.

Hope you are having a nice day.

  4. Thanks!

I use 2 cameras: A Canon Rebel T1i (DSLR) and my favorite little Panasonic Lumix DMC - ZS1 (a pocket size point and shoot with 12x optical zoom). This is my second generaration of the Lumix (1st one in the corals at Labadee - snif snif).

Great review...and love the photos. We will be sailing on Freedom in February 2012 same itinerary sure hope we are lucky enough to see ships transiting the canal as well.

I have the Lumix model just before yours and love the camera. Thinking about getting a DSLR and looking at the Canon DSI2 or Nikon D5000

Thanks for sharing your cruise with us..

  5. Janice...Tarpy's looks like a nice place...Jim and I are good with just about anyplace too.

    Carol...nice purple banner.

San Jose Girl...nice meeting you...Carol, Janice and I have cruised together and done a few fun things too. Would love it if you could join us sometime.
  6.
Hi char - I am glad Janice revived this thread - we have met Yvonne and Frank from Manteca has come by to visit too -

we will eventually come up with a date - I am thinking , perhaps Tracy will be ok - since Yvonne visits her son in the Discovery Bay area - kinda' mid local for us all - we are also thinking of Morro Bay = SLO ,etc... and Yes, Janice, a place that won't hurry us out is #1 to consider -

if we want it to be just US - the people I just mentioned, it should be easy to come up with a place - however, I don't think I want to open this up to our entire CA Cruisers like we did last time -

    carol
Yes I agree it just gets tooooo complicated when we try to get the entire California group together...we learned that the last time.

Tracy is good for us...not too far away. Not sure what restaurants are there. Also San Jose has some good restaurants especially in that shopping mall they have. And in your area is good too Carol...but then maybe you would like to get away.

And I think Frank lives in Manteca...is that right? Modesto has some good restaurants.

We have some good restaurants here in Fresno too...but is probably way too far away for most. We have a Famous Dave's that is good for BBQ, PF Changs, Mac Grill, and some local restaruants...Mexican that we could probably use one of their large rooms, we also have a great Pizza/Coney Island place (serves all kinds of food) that we could use a large room...no rush either. Just a thought tho'.

Actually we are good for any place...

  7. Hi Yvonne,

My family lives 20 miles north in Union City. (I've lived in the Bay Area my entire life.) My wife and I have a 9 year-old daughter.

I have worked in product management for a large company ... but my department is being eliminated next month. :( So I am hunting for a new job.

Sorry to hear about your job...hope you find another one soon.

  8. So this is the Northern California thread nice I'm Yvonne from San Jose and boy am I happy we live in this part of the US. I'm reading post from some of our friends across the US and the weather is pretty hot out there. Nebraska friends said its 112 today and Kansas is 109. Even though it has been colder than usual its better than 100.

We are preparing for our next cruise to the Western Caribbean in 2 weeks. Visiting Grand Cayman, Roatan, Belize and Cozumel. These are all new ports for us. Also cruising out of Miami is new too.

Carol the closest to Antioch we get is Discovery Bay where our son and his wife live. We love the Discovery Bay area it is so open, very different from living in such a big city as San Jose.

I work in the car business and my husband works as a Sr. Sales manager for a contract manufacturer. We have 4 children the youngest are 20 yr old twin boys.

So that's us I hope to get to know you all, there is nothing like friends that cruise together. :)

Sanjosegal...welcome to the Nor Cal thread too...wonderful group here you will have fun and meet lots of great cruisers.

I am Char and hubby is Jim we live in Fresno which is dead center of CA but are considered Nor Cal...must be the further most southern border of Nor Cal. LOL

We will be doing your same W.Caribbean itinerary on April 3, 2011 out of Galveston on Voyager of the Seas. We will be cruising with a group that we have sailed with before and really hit it off that will be our second cruise together but will definately do more in the future.

Our next cruise coming up is in five weeks to Alaska on Sapphire Princess...we will be going with two other couples.

  9. I am trying to get Glenda and Jill to join us - maybe we can go to Tracy on a weekday = jill is fine, still need to hear from Glenda.

I feel so much better now that I am back on line - !! carol

That would be a fun lunch :)

Count me in...Jim would have to drive me tho' coz I don't drive that far away...he can go shopping or something.

  10. Hello NOR CAL Buddies...

We have had a busy week starting last Wednesday with cmpany coming in and a HS grad on Thursday night a BD party on Sunday...company left Monday morning...then we went out to dinner with our daughter Robin and her husband had a great time...good food and good company.

Carol...happy that you are back and sorry that you were disappointed in the Infinity. Me too I can hardly wait to see the Shilouette next year. =)

    Happy Wednesday to everyone.

  11. I can't figure out how to get the pump handle steady too - I know it's a clip but I have a hard time - I figured it out once but don't do Chevron Benicia anymore since I no longer work. When I first learned how to pump gas, I only did it there and other Chevrons - now I can at least do Safeway and last week, learned to do the Costco pumps! ha!ha! but as much as I can, i let Narce do it.

I actually am pretty good - I no longer get gas on my shoes! I do not wipe the windows tho' - carol

I use to always offer my car to Jim when it needed gas...and since it was a red Mustang GT...fully loaded he was very happy to do it...coz I never allowed anyone to drive my car unless they has special premission. ;)

The last time I pumped gas it took me so long to get it right that my credit card timed out...and I had to go inside to get the pump re-activated...then it happened again...so I drove on fumes to my DDs house and she helped me put gas in the car.

  12. There is only one cruise I know of like that and it is the Infinity (ha ha Carol)

West Coast Wine Tour. Celebrity does it once a year from north to south (repositioning for winter). It is a 10 day and is the only cruise I know of that stops in Monterey. This year may be the last one though if they are pulling out of the west coast. It is in Sept.

    Barb

Barb...maybe not the last one...unless they move Infinity out of Alaska...because they have to get her to the East Coast...I think. Want to look into that one so hope they don't stop the cruise. I hear it is a popular cruise...even with us Californians. :D

  13. i looked it up and I got the site that said it's a BBQ place. Maybe it's not the right website. or is it the BBQ place? carol

Yes it is southern style BBQ...serving all kinds of southern style foods...steaks, corn fritters and stuff like that.
