Phew!  We were worried about availability and timing, so DH and I got our second shots in the US while at Disney a few weeks ago, meaning we got the same brand as our first shots.  We would have been pooched if we’d waited to get them here, and our public health unit is mainly doing Moderna now, and DH had Pfizer first.  I’m going to have to apologize to DH, since I didn’t really want to go to the hassle, and he insisted so that we could get our shots and be done with it.

bookbabe...are you on the Canadian DIS boards?  Saw your screen name thought it looked familiar.

We have an all inclusive booked for March Break.

They will test us before we fly home, for FREE.

The resort is not at capacity and most all inclusives are outside anyways.

Which resort is testing for free? The ones I was looking at are only providing Antigen tests for free and can arrange the PCR for a fee (anywhere from $79-$200, that I saw).

I really appreciate you posting this as you have first hand knowledge of the testing requirements to enter Canada.

It is very good to know that the 'rapid" PCR test that comes back in an hour is allowed to enter Canada.

Over on the DIS (Disney) boards there are a few posters who have been traveling to FL over the last year.  They swear by booking the drive thru Walgreens NAAT Rapid ID NOW test, which is free. They just use their hotel address.  They have never been asked for insurance, etc as that is all option info when booking on the website.

I think I would book an extra hotel night the day of embarkation. Get tested that day and get the results within hours.

  4. In Nova Scotia, we are encouraged to get tested at least weekly, for free, with or without symptoms.  Never any mention of not using the tests for travel or not.

For the post above wondering what a provincial test result might look like, I still have the results from one of my old tests and this is the text copied and pasted from the email:

    NAME (removed)

Tested using a Validated Upper Respiratory Tract Specimen Test for SARS-CoV2 (COVID-19) on Wednesday, December 9, 2020 1:00PM Atlantic Standard Time at a Nova Scotia Health Laboratory using a validated COVID-19 PCR assay. The testing laboratory is accredited under Accreditation Canada.

    Date of Birth: (removed)
    Provincial Health Card Number: (removed)
The result for your COVID-19 test is: NEGATIVE

A negative test result means you did not have COVID-19 when you were tested.

  5. So based on their website's policy, my two Pfizers which I received 50 days a part, are okay for US-based cruises:

(no mention of the days in between shots)

Royal Caribbean accepts vaccines that are fully approved or authorized for emergency use by the U.S. FDA or the World Health Organization. All doses of your vaccine should be from the same manufacturer and of the same type (e.g. mRNA), in the required number of doses to be considered fully administered (e.g. 2 shots of Pfizer, Moderna, AstraZeneca, etc., or 1 shot of Johnson & Johnson). A guest is considered fully vaccinated 14 days after their vaccine series is completed.

For Cruises Departing from Ports Outside of the U.S.

For cruises departing from ports outside of the U.S., we will accept guests who are vaccinated with a mixed regimen consisting of 2 shots of the following manufacturer combinations: Pfizer and Moderna, or AstraZeneca with either Pfizer or Moderna. The doses must be separated by at least 28 days and not more than 42 days for mixes of Pfizer and Moderna, and separated by at least 4 weeks and not more than 12 weeks for combinations of AstraZeneca with Pfizer or Moderna.

For Don this cruise was "work related" I'm sure. I used to watch his channel but have moved away from it. He used to give helpful tips and fair reviews. Then he seemed to take a page out of the DT play book and everything turned into a rant. I don't mind fair and honest criticism but going on and on about what is wrong without praising what was right.

So you are saying you don't like his channel? lol

What do you mean with your first comment?

I think he is great.  He didn't sugarcoat anything in his episodes on the Edge, I am sure he has much more to come once he gets home to Canada and can produce all his content.

I like his second channel "Just Don" as well.

Don  is on La Lido Loca's livestream and said that most drug stores aren't doing testing anymore.

Which is why I have asked in the past WHICH Walgreens do testing for Canadians |:)

Yes, I just posted the video above your post.

You would have to call around, I guess. I just know the ones around WDW are still doing them. You book it online, use a hotel address, hop in a taxi and then do the drive thru. Free and results within hours. You don't need insurance, etc.

  8. I always take a 12:30pm or 1:50pm flight home. Off the ship and at the airport by 9:30 waiting for the Air Canada rep to get to the check in counter LOL

I wouldn't trust the airports either. I think I would book a night at a hotel and do a walgreens drive thru test for free and get the results within hours.

That's what a lot of Canadian Disney travelers are doing.

  9. Anyone who is subscribed to Don's Family Vacations on youtube should go watch his last two videos.

He is currently stuck in Florida in a hotel as Celebrity lost his covid test results!  He was supposed to be tested last night at 5:40pm, that got bumped to this morning at 8am due to the five new passengers being tested positive.  His flight was 12:30pm today and he obviously missed it.

Anyways, he is not a happy camper, especially since he bought TWO sky suites...not that that should matter, but I mean he is a travel agent and vlogger and this isn't good press for Celebrity right now.

He was our guinea pig and this clearly shows what can happen!

Unfortunately, Royal Caribbean's current criteria does not consider me as fully vaccinated for cruising anywhere in the world, not just in the U.S.

My Pfizer/Moderna mix was at 55 days apart.

Same!  I waited so I could have two PF doses, but they are 50 days a part. My daughter (13) who was late getting her first PF dose just had her second yesterday at 32 days a part. DH isn't even vaccinated with one dose (by choice), so she is the only one that can cruise Royal right now LOL

Good thing Carnival doesn't have that rule. They just have the AZ mixing rule.

  11. Carnival allows the PF/MD mix, but not the AZ mix.  They also don't have that crazy 28-42 days = vaccinated BS that Royal is adding. Plus, their cruises are 95% vaccinated.

That might be one of the few options for us Canadians right now, which is fine.

Also, I would rather cruise on a ship with the 95% vaccinated as less of a chance of getting covid onboard or being identified as a close contact.

Yes, the Celebrity Covid-19 Assistance plan ends October 30, 2021. You can find the details on their Healthy Sail page.

If you are traveling outside that window, you will be responsible for arrangements.

Yes, I knew that. Thank you.
