  1. Hi Bruin Steve,

I am trying to find economical transportation between san pedro pier (Princess cruise) on a friday to Friends in Pomona , California.

    Do you have any tips.

Alternately, thinking of a economical hotel, hostel, airbnb around long beach or Long beach airport , or john wayne airport to fly out from there.

    Can you assist?

But, if you are just flying in the day before, take one of the shuttle services (Super Shuttle, Prime Time Shuttle, etc.) or Execucar if you want a private ride...down to San Pedro and stay at the Crowne Plaza or the Doubletree...If you can find a bargain on Priceline on one of those, all the better...The area is plenty nice and plenty safe...definitely not the upscale part of LA, but certainly pleasant for a one night pre-cruise stop...There are lots of good, reasonably priced restaurants within a couple of blocks of the Crowne Plaza...and, in the morning, you will be pretty much right at the port...The hotels will even shuttle you there, though, with rolling luggage, the Crowne Plaza to the port is easily walkable...If you get in a little earlier in the day that day before, there are a few things to visit in the San Pedro area...

There are a couple of cheaper hotels in San Pedro--the Best Western and the Vagabond...but they are not in a great location--on a very busy thoroughfare and farther from the attractions and better restaurants...and not quite of the quality of the top hotels...but, remember, you get what you pay for.

The Convention Center area of Long Beach is a very nice area...but, you are also about 6-8 miles from the port and a pricey extra taxi ride...If you stay there, choose from THIS LIST of hotels: Hyatt Regency, Hyatt at the Pike, Renaissance, Westin, Hilton, Maya Doubletree or Residence Inn Downtown...MAYBE the Queen Mary. I say maybe because, in reality, it is NOT a very good hotel...Unlike many locals, I HAVE stayed there...It's sort of dark and uncomfortable and often not very well managed or maintained...It is a relic...So, if you want to stay there for the historical implications or the curiosity factor, go ahead. It is very convenient to the Carnival terminal, but not as convenient to the restaurants/shopping/attractions area of Long Beach--though there is a free city shuttle that will take you there. If you really want to be in the best location in Long Beach, go with the Hyatt Regency, the Hyatt at the Pike or the Renaissance. Do NOT look for a bargain in Long Beach...Many bad hotels claim to be in the Convention Center area yet they are a couple of miles out of that area in very seedy and even crime-ridden parts of Long Beach. BEWARE.

    Good luck.

  2. Will there be some type of notice in my room about the free elite bar set up? Does it indicate how to exchange it for 2 coffee cards? If there is no notice do I call room service to exchange it? How long does it take to receive the cards?

Yes I just did this. Just call room service. Have a good cruise.

  3. Please get rid of that goop Princess calls "shampoo/conditioner" and bring back the Lotus Spa products. While you're at it, lose the shower gel and give me SOAP!

    Grey

I miss those little bottles of shampoo princess used to use.

    I like the replacements less.

  4. fruit for dessert..

    raspberries.

funny but I have been told " No" we don't have any available"

but I also have been brought a small bowl of them.

    What a treat.

a simple plate of spinach, nicely prepared steamed.

    or more than one vegetable..

without oils or cooked in butter.

  5. Hi I am a single widow 59 years young and just now thinking of my first cruise.(solo)......but I do not and cannot fly.....this poses a real problem to get to the port of embarkation Anyone else have this dilemma?. I live in beautiful Colorado so Miami seems to be a daunting bus ride....lol.......I want to go to Caribbean. so any past for present cruisers that do not fly please let me know your experiences.. Thanks.

I would suggest the train. With a sleeper if available. I have had good experiences the the train especially with a sleeper accomodation.

    best wishes.

  6. I think the desserts are excellent. Food is subjective so I say to each his/her own.

Yes, You are correct; very subjective.

    have a nice cruise!

I did ask nicely for fruit on my last princess cruise and was turned down.

    didn't understand that one.

  7. I wish princess would have someone tasting the meals before they are sent out to make sure they are the way they should be.

Too many times , the temperature is OFF, or the item is way too salty or

    what ever.

The head chef should make sure the food being sent out is good.

  8. Thanks for posting your review

Thinking of trying something different the next time. Of the other cruise lines you've sailed on. Do you have a favorite and one that stands out?

I have liked Holland America for it's service quality (the stewards, mostly).

I have enjoyed princess. But ,more so in past ,as I don't like the diminished quality of entertainers and production shows as of late.

  9. I appreciate your responses. I also find pleasure in sitting, watching and enjoying being on the sea. Watching for wildlife or the waves. My original post was more about inevitable small changes in the Cruiselines entertainment product and reactions to the changes.. I still like to go cruise.
