  1. Depending on how many people are in your party, you can take a taxi from airport to the cruise port for around €30, drop off your luggage and then take taxi to Port Vell (less than €10). There are so much to do/see around Port Vell and you are within walking distance to La Rambla. You can spend several hours here. When you are ready to board, just take a taxi back to cruise port.

  2. This is what we have been doing, we take tons of pictures (on our own and with the ship's photographers). We buy the CD from the ship. When we get home, we make two books, one of our trip using our own pictures, and one about the ship with the pictures from the ship' CD.

We use a site called ZNO, they produce professional quality photo books for a very fair price. They have templates to help you layout and edit photos.

We tried the ship's photo book once, and the quality cannot compare to ZNO. We did our wedding album with ZNO.

  3. We may have been the couple who never showed up in the MDR. Last November, we were on the Anthem and we tried Dynamic Dining. We had a set time, but we're still required to wait 45 minutes! So, that was the end of MDR for us. Since then, we have only eaten dinner at Coastal Kitchen or one of the Specialty restaurants. I don't think we will ever eat at the MDR again on Royal and we have 8 cruises booked through 2017.

  4. We were on the Anthem last November and the seas were rough for 2-1/2 days. I didn't blame Royal because we chose to go onboard. But, I can tell you, we will not sail out of NJ again because it takes too long to get to the Caribbean and calmer waters.

On our sailing Royal did provide seasickness medicine to anyone who needed it. And, there were plenty of "barf" bags all over the common areas.

  5. When we first tried Chef's Table on the Allure, it was the best meal we've ever had (up to that time) on Royal. One of the Chefs was actually at the table the whole dinner explaining the food and the wine pairing. Then we were given signed cookbook at the end.

We missed it on Harmony, but we will book again on the Oasis for our Thanksgiving cruise.

  6. @Shaken_Bake, if you have a special occasion planned for Chef's Table on the Harmony, I would book somewhere else or risk being disappointed having to eat at the MDR or worst, Windjammer!

It has been confirmed twice that there is no room to host Chef's Table on the Harmony (by ship's staff members).

I would rather enjoy a nice meal at Wonderland or Chops Grill or 150 Central Park, than worry about whether my special dinner will be cancelled or not. Not worth the worries while you are enjoying a wonderful cruise.

  7. Thanks for the write up. We've been on the Anthem only once and because it leaves out of NJ, we won't be back because it take so long going back and forth to the Caribbean. The ship was great and we enjoyed her very much. We were on pre "suite class" roll out.

We were on Harmony in July in a Jr Suite, so we got to sample Sea class. Next Cruise crew gave us a tour of the perks for Sky and Star classes, so we went ahead and booked those two classes on our upcoming cruises.

I've read on CC that Royal has been changing the perks for Star class, I hope they are for the better and that the Genies will find their groves before we sail.

  8. I am disappointed to hear about the service you received as a Star class suite guest.

We were on the Anthem last November before the new suite classes were rolled out.

We just returned from the Harmony and it seemed the suite classes were running a lot smoother. I personally prefer the Oasis class ships because they never feel crowded even during the busy seasons (school vacations and summer). We have never been on Celebrity or NCL, but I have started to look around.

  9. When we were in Harmony in July, I asked the Head Chef why there wasn't Chef's Table, his ask was, "there is nowhere to host it on the Harmony", however, they were exploring putting a private dining room in Chops (similar to Anthem).

  10. On our Harmony cruise in July, the Dining Package was not offered onboard.

This is how it worked on our July Harmony cruise:

You pick the time you want to dine on either the 1st or 2nd night. Royal will assign the restaurants for you and the other nights. However, I recommend that you go to one of the Specialty Restaurants upon embarkation and have the host change all the reservations to the way you want them.

  11. Let start by saying, we were on the July 10 Harmony cruise from Barcelona. This year Harmony's Mediterranean cruise allows for boarding in Barcelona or Rome, so the ship is really sailing continuously around the Med. About 2/3 of the ship boards in Barcelona and 1/3 in Rome (this might change cruise to cruise). Knowing that and the fact that most of the passengers will be off ship in Rome, I would first grab something to eat and then go explore the ship. There shouldn't be too many "chair hogs" around that day.
