  1. That's my problem. I don't care what other people are wearing (I try not to judge) but I care very much what other people think about what I am wearing. So I ask about possibly questionable fashion choices to get a consensus. I know it shouldn't matter to me, but I would hate to be the topic of anyone's critiquing of what people were wearing. Add to that, the "leggings as pants" look has always stuck me as tacky (for me, but again, I don't care about others wearing whatever...) so even wanting to try this with a tunic (which is more of a mini dress than a shirt) makes me feel slightly hypocritical as well. I don't want others to think I am the one being tacky. :') And therein is my own personal insecurities and the reason I ask for what is basically fashion opinion on a forum devoted to cruising. :D

If you don't mind a recommendation to alleviate your own "personal insecurities"....wear the leggings. Trade out the flats for a pair of 4 inch pumps. 2-3 shots of tequila in the room, enter the MDR and announce "JEFFSWIFE IS IN DA HOUSSSSSSSSSSSSSSE"!!!!....Problem solved

    Enjoy your cruise :D

  2. Actually a Sombrero or a White Russian with almond milk sounds pretty good. Assuming almond milk has a good almond flavor. I've never drank it.

i personally have never had Almond Milk or as another poster put it, "nut juice" :')

i have on the other hand have had more than my share of White Russians and Sombreros....Its a good cocktail

  3. Where can you smoke cigars on the Carnival glory?

Sent from my iPhone using Forums

Absolutely....nothing better than a nice Macanudo on your balcony!!!! :)

In all seriousness, you are allowed to smoke cigars in the approved smoking sections

  4. Although it may seem like it sometimes, but most people don't plan on spending a significant portion of their vacation complaining to guest services. Its comforting to know that if I do have an issue, I don't have to spend 45 minutes in a queue waiting to speak to someone.

On the other side of the fence....In all my cruises, i maybe have been to GS maybe 5 times. With the exception of the last night when many of the passengers are removing tips off their bill, i never remember seeing these phantom 45 min + lines....and even if there were, if you didnt have some immediate pressing need, why not just come back at a less crowded time?

  5. I like(d) it, but I don't care for the recent price hikes, although I don't blame Carnival for making money.

I have always said that FTTF is the single best marketing scheme that Carnival has ever come up with....Think about it, they are charging people an extra $70 per cabin for.....absolutely nothing....everyone is getting on the ship, everyones room is going to be ready at some point. Its absolutely brilliant of Carnival and it doesnt cost them anything

  6. She actually just drinks kahlua and milk...I know that is not really a White Russian and it is lightweight, but that is what she likes. That is why I wondered if she would be better off making them herself. But by the time you buy a bottle and buy and bring the almond milk, it would be about half the price of Cheers for a five day cruise. Cheers would be better, if they carry it.

Kahlua and milk is typically referred to as a Sombrero

A White Russian is vodka, kahlua and milk

  7. Except for our two Sunshine cruises, we have sailed exclusively Fantasy class and love them, so no worries about that. Honestly, clean is my #1 criteria, so that is good to hear. How long ago did you sail? Did you happen to have any time dining? We have any time for 7 people, which makes me a little nervous (usually just the three of us). We sail on the next-to-last sailing before the month-long dry dock. Getting excited!

It was a 5 night....Nassau (I don't particulary like Nassau so we hung out on the ship and had the entire pool area to ourselves. I think there may have been 4 other people in the pool)....The other stop was Half Moon Cay, which is absolutely a gorgeous beach. We booked last minute, so got relegated to Late Seating, which was fine. We ate in the MDR 3 nights, Lido 2 nights. We spent a lot of our time on the Serenity deck. If you are a Serenity deck person, plenty of seats, but limited number of chaise loungers. Only about 12 of them are under umbrellas. If you wanted one of those "prime" loungers under the umbrella, get there early. I personally would get up around 7 am to secure 2 of them. By 7:45, those loungers were taken, normally by the same 6 people reserving the other spot for their spouse. They had a lot of stuff going on during the day at the pool and at night. At the time we sailed, there was no specialty restaurant (don't know if they are getting one or not). I assume you are sailing out of Jax? Jax Port is great. Parking for the 5 nights was around $75....short walk to the terminal, pretty close to 95 if you are driving home. Back to dining, it was just the 2 of us, we dined with 2 other couples we did not know (yes, the horror, we actually dined with strangers!!!!!!!!!!....inside joke to some other posters on here momin05, not directed to you), I cant imagine an issue with 7 people, but I don't know. According to the CD, the ship was full and I was shocked as it never felt crowded. I think the Mongolian Wok had a 10 minute wait one day, that was literally the only line we encountered. Omlete/sandwich station only would have 1 or 2 people qued up, same with the pizza station. The buffet when we went the 2 nights was a ghost town. Seriously, if there was 10 other people dining up there, it was a lot. The main pool has I believe 2 slides, pools are small like on most ships....I cant say enough about the ship and the crew. If you are looking for a basic cruise and I use "basic" because there aren't any specialty restaurants or Ice Shows or rock wall, the Elation is awesome. Would definitely cruise that ship again

  8. Glad to hear some good reports on Elation. We have sailed many Fantasy class ships (since Fantasy in 1995!) and loved them, but never Elation. And it seems like Elation got passed over when others were getting updates, so I was slightly worried. The only larger ship we have sailed is Sunshine and we liked it too. I do wish they would figure out a way to add a Red Frog Pub on the Fantasy class...replace one of the night clubs. It is just such a neat atmosphere in there and what I have always thought was missing on a cruise ship.

We went on the Elation as a last minute getaway for the price and the convenience. Are there a lot of bells & whistles, absolutely not (no specialty restaurants, no Red Frog, Iguana's)....so if you need those diversions to have a good time, the Elation isn't currently equipped for that (I believe it is slotted for the 2.0 upgrades in Aug, correct me if I am wrong on the dates). The ship is an older ship, to some people, that immediately scratches it off their list. Why?, no idea, but some cruisers only like "newer"....The ship is CLEAN. The crew is always cleaning, polishing, etc. The entertainment was great, always something going on....I thought the Production Shows were excellent. Now, are they going to be nominated for a TONY award, of course not, but they are entertaining! Was the food in the MDR 5 star, no (I have yet to find a cruise ship where the food is incredible. Its banquet hall food). The food is good, the buffet is good....We had an OV room and its your typical room on a cruise ship....overall great time and well worth the $ spent. I would do the Elation again in a heartbeat

  9. I will say that Jax is one of the best ports to embark from....plenty of parking right next to the terminal. I guess the Coast Guard inspection pushed things back and that will inherently cause chaos because you have a group of "firsties" lining up around 8 am. If that was the case and it delayed the opening of the terminal, I could see any port being a mess. That is why I typically arrive at 1:30 or 2 pm....At that time, barring no delays in boarding, you will have more Carnival personnel in the terminal than passengers

  10. The Elation is a great ship....prior to sailing, I read the reviews and was really concerned about all the negative reviews. I really thought I was going on a rust bucket that could barely float. The ship was immaculate, the staff cant do enough to help, always with a smile....Good food, great bartenders, excellent entertainment. There is always something going on to entertain the crowds. It is an "older, smaller" ship and I know the cruise snobs only sail the "newer, bigger" ships (another mindset I don't get ) You will have a blast, enjoy

  11. Not at all. Want to confiscate the rum runners, no problem. Want to destroy people's property. I guess I can't prove it but it seems absurd that a security person would willfully destroy someone's property. Talk about breaking rules. And I don't mean the rum runners. There could be electronics in there as one example.

What are you going to report? Your RR that you are utilizing to smuggle booze on board developed a small leak due to a hole and you want to blame someone. You obviously have no proof of anything and you are seriously going to go in front of a Carnival employee to complain that the booze you were illegally smuggling on board leaked out [emoji23]....let's compound it and complain also that you were brilliant enough to pack electronics equipment on your checked bag when there is every warning out there to NEVER check thru electronics. You take electronics with you on carryons. The only response I could see the GS rep replying to you is a line from Forrest Gump...."Are you stupid son"? [emoji16]

  12. me personally, i wouldn't smuggle booze on a ship

    Let's see

Attempt to smuggle booze onto a cruise ship with the worst that can happen is getting kicked off the ship (I have no ideal what the penalty is for getting caught)

    Or

breaking the rules at work and damaging someone's personal property with the potential of getting in trouble or losing my job at work over something that has no effect on my livelihood

who is the real "putz" in these situations?

No remotely intelligent person will report this. Are you going to sit there with a straight face and claim that you are going to go down to GS and say "hey, I was trying to sneak booze on this ship illegally and my rumrunners got damaged"[emoji23][emoji23][emoji23][emoji23]

If I was working the desk I would have to respond with "It isn't very smart trying to sneak booze onto a ship since it's illegal. You are truly stupid for calling a Carnival employees attention to it....Should i kick you off the ship or do you want quarters for the washers and dryers"? [emoji3]

  13. but it's OK for your "friend" to break the rules and risk losing his job, he sounds real intelligent:rolleyes::rolleyes:

If you don't smuggle, you got nothing to worry about. I personally think it's a much more effective deterrent than just taking the rum runners. Seems many of these mooch smugglers almost expect 1 or more of the runners to get nabbed. Be honest, if your runner was found, you would get your bag and when you opened it, the RR is gone....Probably a laugh with a comment of "Dang it, they got me....next time I will be more careful". Now picture opening your bag to get ready for dinner and your clothes are soaked thru with rum. I am betting that chucklehead won't be doing any smuggling on his/her next cruise

  14. Yeah I'm calling BS on that too, no one is that stupid to risk their job to "teach someone a lesson"

edit - on 2nd thought there are stupid people that would, but I'm still not buying it in this case

You can call BS all you want. No reasonably intelligent person who is breaking the rules is going to call attention to that and complain that someone prevented them from bringing booze on a ship. I would probably be welling up with tears as you filled out the report, trying not to laugh in your face for being a putz [emoji23]....unless you are a total moron, after spending your first night in the ships laundry room, it's a good bet your mooch smuggling days are over [emoji23]

  15. You are lying. Plain and simple. Destruction of property, smuggled rum or not would be a crime. Not just laundering clothes. Could be damaging other items as well. It's absolutely ridiculous to suggest someone would do this and no one would notice during the scanning. Yeah they would be caught and fired. If my rum runners were cut I would definitely report it. What are they gonna do take my rum?

Not lying....not claiming he catches every single rum runner that is brought on board. You do realize handlers spot check luggage, right? Handlers open the bag and go thru the bag looking for contraband....or am I lying about that too [emoji849].....When he comes across a rum runner, a simple slice and the bag leaks. Scanners don't capture "wet clothes"....I think you are the one lying saying you would report it....what's your complaint? Someone prevented you taking booze on board illegally? [emoji23]

  16. Yes. The entertainment is, well it's Disney. The service is beyond wonderful. The food is great, the dining experience even better. Only cruise lines to have fireworks onboard, well, it's Disney. Soda machines included on the Lido. They don't care if you bring alcohol on board. There is no smoke-filled casino. If I could afford to cruise with Disney I would. It was a wonderful experience. But alas, I can not, so I cruise the line that meets all my needs at a price that allows me to do so annually.

2 bottles of wine or 6 beers. Disney DOES NOT allow you to bring liquor/spirits onboard
