  1. Thanks for taking the time to tell us about your experience aboard "Magic". I'll be sailing her on Nov 11th, and am looking forward to another great Carnival cruise. I must admit, however, that I too am NOT a big fan of the big ships, and would much prefer the smaller offerings, but I go aboard with a positive attitude, and ALWAYS have fun.

  2. Vancelot is 100% correct. Their new and "improved" system won't allow 'em to use your CD's, and their book is lame, at best. No more is there an evening with the live band either. That was WAY too much fun, so they discontinued that as well. I've found it best to simply ask the KJ for the song/artist that you want to perform, and about 50% of the time, they have it. I will say, that when they first updated their equipment, it was TERRIBLE, and the host/hostess was lame at best, but both have improved in the last year or so. It's much better than it once was.

By the way,,,when are you sailing? I'm sailing "Magic" again on November 11th, and would love to meet you at karaoke!

  3. I too, appreciate your posting of your experience aboard "Magic". I'll be sailing her again on 11/11, and can't wait to get aboard, even though I too, like the smaller, less crowded ships a bit better. ;) I've learned to smile, and go along with the big groups of people, and sit back and relax till the crowds are thinned out a bit. In any case, I'm ready for another "Magic" experience.

  4. I've sailed "Paradise" many times out of Tampa, and always eat at first seating. We ALWAYS pass under the bridge while at dinner, so if you have early, and want to be on deck for the passage under the bridge, I'd recommend the buffet the first evening. (Oh by the way, it is, indeed, a sight that you won't soon forget.)

  5. Wonder why they are having so much turnover these days?

I don't know, although I do know that it's a REALLY demanding job. Damn near 24/7. Many of them do stay at the job for many, many years, while others are lucky to last one contract? The creation of the "Entertainment Director" was supposed to take some of the load off the Cruise Director, but apparently that didn't help enough for some of them. It's a mystery????

  6. They seem to be all new. Remarkable how few experienced CD's are left

So true! Steve Castle and Butch Begovich are both history. (Butch is working in Miami, at H.Q.) It seems that the majority of the remaining ones are folks who weren't my favorites, even though there are a few good ones left.

  7. I too, don't see a lot of difference in sailing the two lines. As noted, the number of kids, and the number of party goers, and the age of the average cruiser, is totally dependent on the time of year, not the name of the cruise line. I agree that RCI has a bit better entertainment, in general, although Carnival is starting to "come back" from hitting an all time low with their shows. Food, and service is pretty much the same, but in general, I've found that unless you do lots of searching, the prices are comparable.

  8. For me, the ship is the destination, so YES, I'd hop aboard in a heart beat. As a matter of fact, many years ago we used to have cruises out of Tampa that went NOWHERE. They weren't seven days, but shorter cruises, and we had a lot of fun aboard. They'd go out into the Gulf of Mexico, and go North for a period of time, then turn around and go South.

  9. Sounds like you had your "usual" GREAT time aboard our favorite ship, "Paradise". So sorry to hear about your passport, but glad you live relatively close, and could get it without too much trouble.

Sorry I couldn't join you on this one, but I'm sure there will be many more.

    See you aboard!

  10. I too, sail SOLO a lot, and haven't found a good, fool proof way to get the best rate. (I'd love to bring a "friend", but my wife won't let me!) LOL I usually just price the cruise I'm interested in several ways, and pick the one that's the best. I almost always end up in an "upper/lower", and you'd think Carnival would be happy to find someone who is happy there. LOL
