  1. I do 3 or 4 SOLO cruises each year, and have a blast! As noted above, you can do what you want, when you want. I always find that dinner time was one of the highlights of SOLO cruising, as I always select early (or late) assigned seating, and the Maitre'd always seats the SOLO folks together, at a BIG table, which makes for getting to know each other, and having someone to attend shows, go on excursions, and in general, hang together, IF YOU WANT TO. Bottom line, SOLO cruising is great fun.

  2. We've been on both, and Glory was more.... homey if you know what I mean.

WOW,,,scared me there for a moment. I was speed reading through the responses, and read "Glory was more....HORNEY if you know what I mean". ;p I was headed to the Carnival site to book Glory again....LOL

  3. Nope. As a singer, I'm sure I'd have noticed it if they did. I too, have enjoyed that activity on Princess, and even once on HAL, but never on Carnival. As noted, most of the passenger singing activities are gone, and they've even ruined Karaoke to a large extent with their "upgraded" equipment, and abbreviated song list. So sad!

  4. THANKS for a great review, with valuable information. I'm sailing "Magic" in November, and can't wait to get aboard, as I've not been aboard this ship for some time now. I agree with about 99% of what you posted, and know that your info will be of great interest to those of us lucky enough to get to sail "Magic" again. THANKS

  5. Growing for sure .This saved my typing fingers ;). My wife and i were the only Diamonds on a few cruises ,talk about server over kill to much food and to many drinks. But on an off topic note, i feel the Captains grow leary of having to socialize with the Diamond member on every cruise. The topics become boring after so many parties. Look for that to be fazed out in the near future. The party will still be there just the Captain wont be attending. As a matter of fact a few have been a no show as of this past year.

Right you are Bo. I remember one "Diamond" get together, where I was the only Diamond aboard, and they had me go up to the bridge, where it was the Captain, the Hotel Manager, and ME! They had a food/drink layout fit for a king! I'd bet the officers had a GREAT party after I left the bridge. LOL

  6. You can ask your cabin steward for a dryer, and they'll loan you one. Not very powerful, but it will get the job done, and IMO, beats having to carry one aboard, unless you've got one of the little "travel dryers". Oh, by the way,,,if you borrow one, they have a funky off/on switch, that must be held in the on position. I sometimes bring along a strong rubber band to hold that switch in the on position.

  7. I think the number of P/D cruisers is GROWING! The party for P/D has gotten bigger every cruise, and the Diamond only get together with the Captain has grown by leaps and bounds over the past 3 or 4 years. I can remember several times when I was the ONLY diamond guest aboard,,,and now,,,,,there ain't a chance of that. I've seen the diamond party held in the piano bar a time or two, and we couldn't all get in, as there were simply too many diamonds.

  8. I too, have pretty much cruised 'em all, and I too have to admit that my favorite ships are the "Spirit Class", with a close second to "Conquest Class" ships, and "Fantasy Class" bringing up the rear. I don't give a damn about Flow Riders, Ice Rinks, Zip Lines, or any of the other stuff that I pay for, and never do aboard the BIG ships. Give me a nice cozy cabin, a staff that I'll see more than once on a voyage, a good choice of chow, decent entertainment, and I'm a happy sailor.

  9. Many years ago we used to pack our bags, and head out to the port on embarkation day. About half the time we got a cabin, and boarded for the cruise at about twenty five percent of the normal price. Sadly, those days are pretty much gone. I think Oceanlover is correct in his info, but as noted by Sanmarcosman, they don't give the price break that they used to.

  10. I too, would like to know. I've always enjoyed "BlackJack Band" while aboard "Dream", but I read that they've split up, I got the impression that perhaps the main people in that band, Mel, and Jimmy, might still be aboard, and entertaining? If so, I know you'll enjoy them.

  11. I too, saw it being used on "Paradise", and I too think you'd better be very careful when using it. I saw several people get charged for a bunch of beer that ran down the drain, while they figured out how to stop the flow. I too, would suggest walking to the bar, and ordering a beer, instead of fooling around with this thing. ;)

  12. Happy Toes is right. Yes, there are showers near the Hot Tubs on Serenity, but IMO, the best place is the aft pool area. No, it's not "Adults Only", but that usually isn't a problem, and it's normally quite nice back there. On the other hand, the Main Pool area is often too NOISY to suit me, with screaming music, or noisy programs playing on the Big Screen. As noted, for my money, the aft pool area is the best.

  13. I sail SOLO quite often, and in the Caribbean, the ship is the destination for me. I'd choose the Celebrity ship if given the choice of the three you mention. LOVE Celebrity, but seldom sail them anymore due to price, and port of embarkation. Hope you have a fantastic cruise.

  14. From what I've been told by some, if the big show of the night was a major concern to us we should have stuck with Freedom of the Seas.

I'd have to agree, if the shows are the same as I've seen on some of the other Carnival ships lately. The BIG shows used to be the highlight of many nights for me, but now they're nothing but SCREAMING guitars, FLASHING laser lights, and Music ? I never heard of, and never want to hear again.

  15. Hard to tell if, or when they'll change anything in the VIFP, but from what I've read, any change will effect only the very early members of the club. They're talking about changing the "colors" for the 1st, 2nd and 3rd sailing, to encourage the very new Carnival cruisers, so for most of us, it won't make a hill of beans difference. I personally, would like to see another tier above "Diamond", at the 400 day level, or even 500. It's getting to the point where there are a LOT of "Diamond" members aboard,,,especially on the BIG ships.

  16. I've never sailed a ship when the shows interfered with our early seating dinner. I'm booked on "Magic" later this year, and hope that won't be a problem,,,,but on the other hand, the shows have been somewhat "lame" lately, so it's not as big a deal as it would have been just a couple of years ago. BIG noise, flashing lights, and "music" I've never heard of before. ;p

  17. WELCOME BACK! Some things have changed over the time you've been absent, (no more chocolates on the pillow, etc.) but most of what really matters is still there. Cruising, and especially Carnival cruising is still the most vacation for the money, IMO. You're going to enjoy the shows, the ports, the food, and the service, and it'll all be a vacation to remember, so once again, WELCOME BACK.
