  1. I’ve done it twice and never got a second email message. I just found the OBC in my account quite soon after requesting via email. If it was me, I’d keep submitting daily via email until it shows. Did you try chat?

  3. I’m puzzled by the posts of lines, waits and no available dining times. Can anyone tell me when DMW was implemented? And has anyone seen a table of MDR capacity by ship? I can understand if ships were built or refurbished with reduced capacity after DMW implementation. But surely a ship like CB was built prior. I do understand how TD could require less capacity. But I dislike too much structure myself, and I’m not all that keen on dining with strangers. We’ve sailed Norwegian and never encountered difficulty getting a two top in an MDR and I fail to see how their method enables better utilization of capacity. So, are their ships built with more or more flexible MDR seating? I can see how Princess might want to subtly drive business to SD. But in 17 days sailing so far, on older ships, I’ve always been able to make MDR reservations and have them honored for my desired times. Unless you have worked for Princess, I don’t think you know WHY this is happening. But maybe we can figure out HOW.
  4. I left a backpack on a London Underground train in 1996. It took two months and cost £50 to get it back. But I got it back. It had my wallet, camera, credit cards, cash, return air ticket, and a load of other goodies.

  6. The 15 minute wait was no big deal. The 45 minute wait was compounded by the app showing it delivered 5 minutes before it showed up. I figured someone else was eating my sandwich. A roll call buddy ordered a coke. When it didn’t arrive in an hour, he reordered. What showed up? Two cokes. So, yeah, there are glitches. But my two legs work just fine. I am never far from a bar and even the IC is easily reached if I get too hungry.

  8. If you are proposing to go to guest services and ask for an upgrade, I have my doubts about your chances of success. They could offer a paid upgrade if cabins are available. I think early is better than late. That way they can tell you to come back at 5:00 to see if someone failed to arrive. Good luck.
  9. It is a simple process. Still possible. A month ago I was switching back and forth between phone and iPad.
  10. I’m happy with Sam Adams Boston lager or Lagunitas IPA. On Sapphire last month, they had 4 beers from Alaskan Brewing. I don’t drink anything in a green or clear bottle.

  12. I’ve used it twice this year. The first time ever was embarkation day. It took about 45 minutes to get a sandwich delivered to the pool deck. The second time, I ordered a sandwich, soup and beer. It came to my cabin in 15 minutes. I’m not going to die from hunger in an hour. But that’s a long time to wait for an adult beverage. Easier to walk to the nearest bar.
  13. A decent beer is $7. 5 of those is $35. You are in the black.
  14. I tried a sidecar, and then a cable car on Sapphire in the Wheelhouse last month. Very sweet. Like licking a lemon lollipop. My usual is a Woodford Manhattan. The only time it was messed up was my final night on Caribbean Princess in March when the Wheelhouse bartender made an old fashioned instead. He set it in front of me and said “I made a mistake”. Then he remade the drink.

  17. Not everyone with a package will choose casual dining or watch a show in the theater. Anecdotal evidence says even fewer will order 2 gross deserts a day (am I showing my bias?). I think everything you read here is just an unscientific guess, generally based on what the poster does. I like data to inform my decisions too, but sometimes it’s simply not available.
  18. Crew appreciation is the automated tipping that most lines collect from passengers in addition to base fares. $16 per person per day in a balcony and below. There are plenty of places to dine on your base fare, but the number has been shrinking. You will always dine in the main dining room and buffet at no additional charge. Most Princess ships have several additional options; a grill, a pizza by the slice, soft serve ice cream, the international cafe for sandwiches, soups and desserts.
  19. In September, we arrived about 11:00 and were onboard in about 45 minutes. There are multiple flaming hoops we had to jump through despite having had medallions shipped to our home. I recorded a lot of steps that day. As I recall, there were two other ships in port, but both were smaller than Sapphire Princess.
  20. That would be Coral on CB. IIRC, that’s where breakfast was served as well.
  21. Any specific change that has you looking at other cruise lines? One size doesn’t fit all, but none of the lines have gone unchanged in 20 years. All of them charge more and most have unbundled things that you might have taken for granted as being included in the base fare. And lines that haven’t done so were always and remain much more expensive than Princess.

  23. You’ve hit on my main objection to the buffet. I am very noise sensitive. The MDR breakfast is a peaceful, quiet, orderly experience.
