Not surprisingly, lack of response from the CDC is why test cruises haven't happened yet, and then connect the dots as to why cruise lines canceled 2 more months.
The link to the particular blog website is blocked here but I'm sure you all can find it.

Well it says the global fleet is canceled through April except for Singapore and China. Wouldn't those canceled by default include Japan?

The common flu is much more dangerous to kids than covid. If they would required covid vaccinations for kids but not flu vaccinations for kids, that would sure tell that it's not a medical decision.

Correct. You have to wait until they are issued. If you are booking a cruise they can hold it for you with no money down until the FCC’s are issued. If you have a final payment coming up they can extend the final payment date.
Thanks. I want a late summer cruise to replace the March one that just got nixed.
Anyone know if OBC (originally booked via NextCruise) would carry over to a new cruise from a canceled cruise? -

Heard from a friend yesterday that is a bartender with Royal.
He just signed a contract with Royal to start on June 1 on Independence of the seas. Hope this means they are finally going to start sailing again.
Maybe contracts are dated first of the month for accounting or orientation/training purposes, but Independence is in the middle of a cruise on June 1.

Is it possible to use the FCCs before actually getting the email that says you have them? Or if I called today, would they just say the FCCs aren't yet in their system to apply?
-
I understand it'd work the same way as cruise fares do. You'd carry over the OBC from any FCC cruise planner purchases, then the new FCC for any new purchases. Or just get a straight refund.

Where do you come up with these ideas?

Because if all this hasn't been figured out by June, the world has bigger problems. -

My Jan. 2022 cruise is looking more & more doubtful. Maybe the test cruises happen in June and the re-start begins by August?
They've only canceled through April. And if it's June and there haven't been test cruises yet, then you can just forget about cruising ever again.- 1

Cayman is probably one of the few Caribbean countries that can afford to do this

What's interesting is that the "sale" going on is the basic $150 off. It's been $350 off for quite some time. Good timing RC!

Just got the email about my cancellation.
Disappointing, but expected.
I know it says FCC emails will be sent in the coming weeks, but if I call, can I rebook something immediately with FCC?

WHAT?
If 100 people are running around with 1 dose at 50%, then only about 50% of them are protected.
If 50 people are running around with 2 doses at 95%, and 50 others have no vaccine, only about 50% are protected.

And, will cruise lines sail with only 50% protection?
No because a significant portion of the population has either already had covid or has pre-existing immunity to covid. -

Have you thought of this....
I believe, in my opinion, RCG is hopeful and depending on the vaccine to begin cruising. The new administration is toying with delaying the 2nd dose outside of protocols. We are hearing a 100 Million vaccines in 100 days. Only way to do this is hold off on the second dose. You think sailing will resume is only 52% ability to fight off the virus? Two doses in tested timeframe are the protocol for 95%.
Something to ponder.
The problem right now isn't lack of vaccines, it's lack of states actually administering he vaccines.Plus giving say 100 people one dose at 50% efficacy and not the second is nearly as effective as giving 50 people both doses at 95% efficacy

One problem with testing and particularly self-testing. If you are exposed today, and you get tested tomorrow you will mostly likely test as negative until about day 5.
So, much for the science of testing.
Also with the PCR tests used, you could be exposed today and still test positive 3 months from now

I'm sure you have a medical degree to know that it wouldnt exist?
I dont need a marketing ploy to get it at my age. I've been pushing to get the vaccine.
Oh it certainly exists. But the term is being used very improperly by the media and politicians. Even the WHO changed its definition conveniently just for covid.

I booked my flights for this summer as soon as SW released them. One leg is on vouchers the other leg with points. Either way, I can cancel at anytime with no penalty. And the vouchers are good till Dec 2022 so can use them next year if needed (and things are better next year.) The points will just go back into my RR account.
Since booking the flights last month, I have already made 4 price adjustments. Love SW even if we have to fly into LaGuardia rather than Newark for Cape Liberty.
I thought only those flights canceled in the spring had Dec 2022 dates. Otherwise it's the standard 1 year.

Yes, that's what I've been saying there is no reason for rcl to take a position on a cruise that has a high probability of getting cancelled. Same same.
Maybe we will hit herd immunity before late fall as predicted with this new strain of covid and many many more cases. If we are waiting for herd immunity as some think, my sept booking is even a worry.
Herd immunity is a marketing ploy at this point.

The point of the restriction on cruise greater than 7 days was to ensure proximity to ample medical facilities should there be a problem. Plus with the majority of cruises being 7 nights or less, it was an easy cutoff.
People will be tested before they get off anyway, so that would serve as your pre-cruise test for the next leg.But if the actual cruises here are 8/6 swaps, then it makes sense not to allow B2B on them.
-
The CDC order didn't mention anything about B2Bs, just the length of a single cruise.

All the ships are in warm layup.

They should be giving the points for canceled cruises at this point.

I've very rarely tipped the cabin attendant extra. There's only so much above and beyond they can really do, just the nature of the job.
I do tip the waiters due to family dietary issues and the fact we like to get in and out of the dining room pretty quick. We're not social diners who enjoy a 2 hour meal. When the waiters handle both of those w/o us asking after the first night (and they usually do), that scores points with us.
Sailings now cancelled through April 30

My school district has been in person all year. Kids 10 and under don't have to wear masks. We've had zero in-school transmission of covid and less than 2 dozen kids/teachers/staff across the whole district who missed school due to covid or potential covid exposure.
