Strangely enough, after three or four weeks we are normally ready to come home. Have "done" winters away from the UK during our time living in Spain, which might explain our reaction. The other issue of course, is that if you are a Brit, when you return from your three months away, anywhere in Europe is off limits to you for the next six months.

Unless you ask for it, no one will sing anything. Personally, I find it a bit naff. And, no, if for whatever reason they do sing, when you come out from under the table, you do not need to tip.

As a Brit, I can pre-purchase obc at an advantageous fx rate. My understanding is that if I do not use this obc, it will be refunded. Can anyone please explain how the refund will be paid. We are on a Southampton round trip, and obviously do not want a refund in the form of a USD cheque. Thanks for any help and advice.

Our UK insurance provider offers two levels of cover. The "basic" cover for medical costs and repatriation, has a £5million maximum. The premium cover, has no limit for medical or repatriation costs. There is a minimal "excess" of £100. All very straightforward, so no need to worry about levels of cover when travelling. DW and I have an annual policy, that costs in the region of £450 (say $500), although that figure would incresse by about 50% if travelling outside of Europe.

Out of interest, what time did you arrive at the MDR ? We wouldn't think of getting to the MDR any earlier than 19:30.
