  1. Yes, how did the "entry" course suddenly become the main course in the US, but nowhere else in the world ? Even us linguistically challenged Brits have avoided that mistake.
  2. No, Princess ships operating out of the UK still have autotips. P&O (UK) no longer use autotips - tipping is not "required or expected"
  3. In the UK, the World Cup is "protected", which means that Sky cannot show exclusively show any games. Every game will be shown on the free to air channels.
  4. Because such a process could take years, and, given the relatively low sums of monies involved, the legal costs would be excessive, with significant initial costs involved, as no firm would take on the case on a "no win, no fee" basis.
  5. I must admit, in a proper UK fish and chip shop restaurant, I will drink tea with my fish and chips, but proper strong tea, none of your fancy Earl Grey, or herbal concoctions !
  6. Of course you have to lie, because P&O do not allow you the opportunity to clarify your condition if you answer yes to any question.
  7. Absolutely. No one has corroborated his story, and professional food and beverage managers have said that what he describes does not happen. But, SP is happy to believe that his dollars get gets him better service. So, let's leave him in peace, and let the bar staff enjoy their tips for doing nothing special apart from pandering to his whims.
  8. No, the food is hot. And obviously you won't be drinking coffee during the meal!
  9. Or even a mass market line like P&O that have removed autotips, and state that tips are not required anywhere on the ship.
  10. Yup, no tips expected here!
  11. Anyone else on here feeling dispirited because of Megabear's demise ? Seems the forum is in self-inflicted doldrums.
  12. As I mentioned above, most passengers do not tip everytime they have a drink. I certainly don't, and am in the majority. I do the same as you - just tip certain individuals at the end of the cruise.
  13. Which is pretty similar to what Brits do. So, on a cruise I do not tip everytime I have a drink, and you will find that the vast majority of passengers don't either. It is certainly not the norm, despite what some posters on here might say.
  14. Princess is incorporated in Bermuda, which is a British territory, so not US owned at all.
  15. So, as no one knows if I am a big tipper or not (and I do tip when appropriate) when I go to a restaurant, I will get the best possible service, on the off chance that I might drop a bundle of notes on the table at the end of the meal ! As an aside, I wouldn't disagree with your premise about tipping and service levels. However, on shortish cruises, I'm not sure if that premise holds water.
  16. Thankyou for the lesson. I've travelling to the US regularly since 1990, so do have some experience! I tip around $10 to $15 for every meal under $50. I just can't be bothered to work out all the percentages. And, in all honesty, even on more expensive meals, I dont tip much more, as the work involved is the same.
  17. Actually, I do tip, but only if the service requires it. Just a different culture. I go to a pub, go to the bar, order a beer, it is poured and handed to me. Why should I tip ? No different on a cruise ship, especially as I have paid 18% service charge.
  18. Against my better judgement, I tip in the US. However, I tip a fixed amount, not a percentage.
  19. You forget to mention tipping the taxi driver in advance, to make sure you arrived safely at the port !
  20. How about ordering a bottle in a bar, and carrying the bottle into the MDR?
  21. How did your daughter know in advance who were big tippers ?
