  1. These were the details I got when I asked - however I wouldn't guarantee this is what you'll get on any particular sailing, I believe it has already changed once, and since the line hasn't even had their debut yet it could easily change again. We'll all find out more once revenue cruises finally begin.

I’m sure I’ll get some hate for this...but I’m in my early thirties and super loyal to Celebrity (we enjoy being the young ones on the boat;)...)

I think this is a great move for Celebrity. It is basically what they’ve already been doing with a bit more transparency....

We’ll still be on their cruises and I hope we’ll still be the young ones on board:)

I'm also a late millennial, though I would describe celebrity as one of my preferred lines rather than being loyal. This change is good from my point of view, we generally prefer the experience of the cheaper cabins on higher-tier cruise lines, and mostly cruise with a drinks package. Of course if the price goes to where I can add a package on to other lines offering a similar experience for less I'll probably do that instead, but that mostly hasn't been the case with their existing offers.

in May 2022 I am on the 14 night Transatlantic from Miami to Barcelona. The Biggest Cheeky Corner was already unavailable (temporarily) so I grabbed the Gorgeous Suite with all of the Mega amenities!

We've booked a gorgeous suite for that crossing too, sounds like we'll see you there!

I would never use a password manager because you are once more putting your passwords in a domain than could be hacked in the future.

It's worth checking how your passwords will be stored, but if the encryption is watertight it's pretty safe. Always have two-factor authentication enabled for every email account you own though, and any other accounts that offer it.

Interesting site for seeing if your email has been in any of the larger breaches:

As someone who works in the industry, I think a healthy dose of paranoia is required to keep yourself safe online!

Re the age chat, at mid 30s I'm hoping I must surely count 🤞 - certainly I required the tobacco clarification 😄

It is not a simple matter of changing your password on your P&O account, you need to change your passwords on every site where you use the same email address as you use on P&O site because if they have your email address they may have scanned the internet for all accounts with your email address as an entry point.

I have currently changed P&O, Princess, Cunard, Celebrity, Amazon, Tesco, Sainsburys, Doctor, Dentist, M&S, Radley and I am looking back to check wherever else I have online accounts.

You were using the same password for all of those accounts?! 😱

Try not to ever use the same password for more than one thing, obviously this is very hard to keep track of so use a password manager to do it.

  6. I sailed MSC in Europe a number of years ago and the experience was barely even comparable to RC. The food ranged from OK to bad, our one visit to a specialty restaurant was laughable (eg they were running low on wraps so my wife had only 2 to accompany her fajitas. As usual with any problem there was just an expectation that you live with it). The drinks available on the drinks package were substantially more limited than royal's (though we didn't sail on royal until later, I think they also used to have a more limited package in the past). The one saving grace was that it was extremely cheap, £360pp for a week, which meant we were somewhat more forgiving of the various issues.

As I said, this was 2013 so things may have changed a bit, but that was my experience.

I invite you to come across the border and we can visit these testing sites.  People from all over the world come to the US because the best health care in the world is available in the US.  I'm not sure I've ever heard of anyone going to Toronto for medical care.

I'm sure that's true - if you have the ability to pay! The NHS isn't perfect, but everyone from the poorest to the richest person here in the UK gets decent medical care. And if you have the ability to pay more, private healthcare is available to you. There are very, very few people here who would exchange the UK healthcare system for the USA's.

  8. Just off the top of my head...

    Danube river cruise

Full transit of the Panama canal

    Australia to Hawaii

    Alaska

    Baltic

Right now of course, I'd gladly take a trip around Southampton water! Fortunately there will be plenty of cruising time post-pandemic (whenever that is).

attract a somewhat younger, luxury-seeking demographic

I guess at the top-end of millennial age I fit in this demographic. I'm hoping to move most of my cruising to Celebrity over the next few years, even if it means sailing in primarily inside cabins, but I'm more than happy to sail on any of their ships. Booked for Constellation in May and I'm hopeful in terms of the health situation by then, but I am a little nervous about the ship being removed from the fleet. If we got 125% FCC I think we'd still struggle to find something affordable since that sailing was already good value and prices have spiked since then.

  10. I'm booked for November and January (which I anticipate not sailing, though I would be on them if they did), May & September and planning to add November next year. I'd give the May cruise a 50/50 chance as things stand and pretty confident about the ones after that. Sars-cov-2 is now endemic and we're going to have to learn to live with it, fortunately treatments are improving and vaccines should increase the survival rate even further.

On cruises cancelled by Royal the FCC is split equally among guests.  Also when you go to apply it they will move FCC money around between the 2 guests to use most or all of it up.

That would be ideal for me, 🤞 that's what happens. Thanks both for your insights.

  12. Hi All,

I have a reservation for myself & my wife where guest 1 (me) has about 4 times the charge of guest 2 (my wife) due to a promotion on the second guest and a paid upgrade being charged entirely to guest 1. Would any FCC being issued be proportional to those charges? If that's the case my FCC would be too much for the future cruise we have booked and would be wasted whilst my wife's would cover very little of the fare.

I would assume p&o need to try and cater to a younger age base now. I don’t mind getting dressed up but most people don’t have formal dress in their wardrobe like they used to.

As a millennial - just - I'm always sad to see the cruise lines reducing the number of formal nights. My wife loves the chance to wear some of her fanciest outfits, and there's not much call for my tux during the rest of the year.

Wouldn't a few days at an appropriate (to suit your personal requirements) onshore holiday centre do the job just as well?  And considerably more cheaply?

Whenever we've considered this we've found that it's going to cost (a lot) more. But we're happy with an inside cabin, which is size-wise smaller than pretty much every hotel room I've been in excepting Point A and that does affect the economics of it somewhat.
