  1. TheCat:

Be sure and check on that airport pickup. 2 years ago daughter and I arrived at Marco Polo at 10:30 p.m. and stayed at Best Western Quarto d'altino, and it was too late for the shuttle. They were supposed to have a taxi waiting for us for the rate of E40 to the hotel, but it never came. We finally ended up taking another taxi which was E60, and the hotel paid the difference. They comped us breakfast the next morning to cover our inconvenience and it was very good, but it was quite a stressful arrival. Then getting to Venice in the morning was a 25 minute ride on a very crowded regional train, but we made it. Just saying...

  2. We are boarding the Magic in Pt. Canavaral next Saturday and I just received a information sheet from our travel agent with some last minute reminders about our cruise. She said we may now take soda on in bottles, but max of 12 per person, 20 oz. or less. Has this changed from the cans only that was allowed before? We do prefer our Coke & Sprite in the plastic 16 ofr 20 oz. bottles as you can cap them back up and they don't go flat.

  3. Our 2nd cruise (now 30) was on the Tropicale out of NOLA. Can't remember the year, but early 90's. One thing I DO remember very vividly was the ability to purchase your booze in the shops and take them directly to your room and even bring them to the MDR and share with your table mates. That was my firt experience with Goldschlager!! Boy, those were the days!!

Our very first cruise was on the Emerald Seas out of Miami in 1982. I think it has been sunk as a man-made reef somewhere!!

  4. We are also cruising out of Venice in late September, and I chose American because I wanted our stop-over to be in US (Philly) instead of European airport. I booked our flights as soon as they became available and got them from a site I've used many times, actually based in US and where you talk to a real person living in State of Maine. Send me a private message if you want the name of the site. Nothing but good reviews from satisfied clients, including me!!

  5. Thanks, Carol. Adding up all the charges for public transport, it seems taxi would be our best option. Maybe we can share one with another couple or single on our roll call. We will get off the ship as late as possible to minimize the wait at EWR, plus we have free passes to the United Lounge that we can use, so the wait might not be too bad. Again, thanks for the info.

  6. We have a 3:30 flight from EWR to Tampa on a Wednesday after debarking from Serenade of Seas, so no hurry at all. What are our options. We do not have a RCCL transfer, so mainly interested in shuttle, taxi, car service, or public transport if available. Thanks for any suggestions. BTW we are a party of 2 with moderate luggage.

  7. Thank you. That's exactly the info I needed. It seems like so many of the flights leave at 11:30, so I was hoping for some first-hand experience. We are definitely planning on 4 nights in Venice and WERE going to do it pre-cruise, but now I think the safest bet is to stay in an apartment for the 4 nights post-cruise and stay one night pre-cruise in a mid-range hotel or B&B. That should resolve all the issues.

  8. Thanks for the replies. Hopefully, we will get some more answers to this question. I'm particularly interested in all the folks that have booked that 11:30 US Air flight Venice to Philly, whether or not they are making it OK.

I will recheck with NCL to see if we can get transfers and book our own air.

We are not in a suite, but are Latitudes members, so perhaps that will help.

  9. I would be interested to know if anyone has been on a cruise ending in Venice with arrival time posted as 8 a.m., then not using cruiseline transfers, just did it on their own via taxi or people mover to P.Roma and then ATVO express bus to Marco Polo airport and made the 11:30 flight to USA. The cruise line advises you to book flights AFTER 11:30, but the flight I would be booking leaves AT 11:30. NCL only books transfers for you if you do their air, and we were wanting to book our own, so it looks like we would be on our own. Other option would be to stay overnight in a hotel and fly out the next day, but I would really like to be able to make that flight. Anyone???

  10. We were going to do a road trip up to Maine and then Montreal & Quebec, but from Florida it was just too far and too much hassle getting hotels or B&B's every night, not knowing where we were stopping, etc. We love to cruise (30 so far), so when the Serenade of the Seas came out with a 12-night fall foliage cruise on 9/24, we jumped on it. We are flying from Tampa to Montreal, spending 2 nights in hotel, and then taking train to Quebec City for boarding. I am a compulsive planner but decided to put a lid on it and just get off in the 3 Canada ports and 3 Maine ports and just walk around, taking it all in and eating LOTS of lobster!!

  11. I hope this isn't a double posting, but I can't find my first one.

We are booked in Cabin 11079 on Jade, Deck 11. Right above us on the deck plan it shows a large empty white space which is right next to the Garden Cafe and Kid's cafe. I am wondering what this space might be and whether there will be a noise factor. If anyone knows what this is, I would appreciate a reply. We can still move our cabin location if we need to. Thanks so much.

  12. We are booked into Cabin 11079, Deck 11 inside on Jade. Right above us is a large empty white space shown on Deck plan, right next to Kid's Cafe and Garden Cafe. Does anyone know what this is; if it's crew space for meal prep? Might it be noise to be underneath it? There's still time for us to move location, so if anyone knows what this is, please let me know. Thanks so much.

  13. We are going on Serenade of the Seas 9/25 - 10/7, out of Quebec City, ending in Bayonne NJ. I believe she is sister ship to Brilliance?? Our first time in Quebec and Montreal. We now live in Florida, retiring after 30 years in Lafayette, LA. We are flying Tampa to Montreal for 2 nights, and then taking train to Quebec to board the ship (much the same as your trip). I hope we will have beautiful fall colors like you did. We don't get much of that in Florida, nor did we in Louisiana. Our port stops are a little different with 3 in Canada and 3 in Maine, and we plan on doing a lot of our own thing in ports. We are both in our 70's now with about 28 cruises under our belt, several being TA's and Med cruises. Anyway, I just wanted to say how much I enjoyed reading ALL of your posts and your beautiful photos. I even loved all the pix of the food!!
