  1. So we are in a suite on an upcoming cruise and I looked today and saw that our suite is available one deck lower than our current location. Same category: currently Penthouse 1609. I am interested in Penthouse 1118.. Will I lose all my perks if I ask to make an even swap? Or should I just leave it alone? My concern is potential noise from the deck above 1609.

    Many thanks!

  2. We're in a Royal Suite in March and I was wondering what is the earliest time we can board the ship? I'm told there will be someone waiting for us at the pier to escort us on the ship. Is this true? Don't really need an escort but am looking forward to getting the most time our of the first day. Does anyone know the time they start letting folks board?

    Thanks in advance!

    Christina

  3. We love the Equinox and her sister ship Reflection. Have never been on Princess and don't feel the need to give them a try because we are completely satisfied with Celebrity. Food is great, drinks and service are always great too. We generally stay in a suite to get even more specialized attention. If I had to give a negative about Equinox it's that they have one fewer specialty restaurant than the other S-class ships and a Gastro bar instead of a wine bar.

  4. I recently called X and asked the same question. When I booked a few months ago I had a choice of one perk...recently they were offering a choice of two...however my total cruise price would have gone up approx $400.00...so no thanks.

It's important to remember that perks aren't free. They are always factored into the price of the cruise fare somehow. Often times an entry level suite (sky suite) isn't much more that Aqua or Concierge and as part of the "suite life" includes all 4 perks.

  5. As I recall on Royal, you were only allowed in the Captain's club if you were in a suite or if you had the a lot of previous sailing points. While there is not a Captain's Club on Celebrity as other have mentioned, they do have a Michaels Club for suite guests and Zenith members where pre-dinner drinks are plentiful.

  6. thanks we are on the Great Barrier Reef tour leaving from Sydney and on the Australian tours gratuities are included... we could use some of the OBC to pay for more expensive drinks... my wife would love a cocktail or 2 each night...

yes I thought that about the spa and the internet.... might have to find an internet cafe at one of our port stops as wife is reluctant to take the i-pad or laptop away with us

My idea is to forego the massage and perhaps use your OBC for a week-long pass to Persian Gardens. On our last cruise this cost was $150 for two for the week. The cost may have increased a little since then. Also consider using your OBC to upgrade to the Premium drink package. Between the Persian Gardens and drink package upgrade, your OBC would be gone but if you're not interested in booking an excursion through the ship, what does it matter? Another poster mentioned gratuities and that is also a good option. We usually ask for a discount when going to a specialty restaurant and we've never been turned down. Usually, you just have to ask. Bottom line is that if you don't have all 4 perks, you will likely be out of pocket some money by the end of the vacation. I hope you enjoy!

  7. Isn't it just so people don't leave the towels behind when they return to the ship? Celebrity wouldn't have gone to this if people hadn't been leaving them behind. The cost to replace them racks up and the next thing you know, somebody will post a rant about all the cutbacks Celebrity has made. They have to recoup their losses somehow and putting a price tag on the towels seems like a fair incentive to return them to me. I'd rather that they charge $28 than discontinue something that I really love...like, I don't know, chilled towels in the gym or lemon water in Persian Gardens. Just saying...

  8. We were scheduled to sail on the Reflection in June 2015......Flight delays (missed our connecting flight in Washington)....Re-routed to Munich & on to Rome.....We were 8 hours late.....but because we booked "Choice Air"......We missed the tour we were scheduled to take on Rome....Celebrity reps met us at the airport in Rome.....It was 4 PM.....Ship was scheduled to sail at 5PM....Celebrity got us a "crazy" Italian limo driver.....drove over 90 mph......We arrived at the ship.....TEN MINUTES LATE....but the Captain WAITED for us......We told this story many times, but we really felt like "WE WERE CELEBRITIES ON CELEBRITY!"

WOW! Great story. Thanks for sharing. I appreciate all the comments. Guess my next international cruise we'll investigate Choice Air! Wish I had known a couple years on our Med. cruise out of Barcelona...

  9. Love the shoe holder idea! Will have to investigate for future cruises. I always bring an adapter for the outlet that converts it from one plug to three. That way we can plug in multiple things at once. Others have mentioned alcohol wipes and this is a must! Towel clips are a good idea too. But like many have said, keep the packing light and just have fun and say no to bungee cords! Oh and I do like the magnet idea too...but for me it will be to put on the outside of my cabin door so that I can easily find my way home after a drink package filled day!

  10. ...because it doesn't appear to be lower cost. I've searched flights for an upcoming cruise on Equinox in March and the fares are the same as what I could get going directly through the airline (delta). So is the only benefit that they will wait for you if your flight is delayed? Or is that even a benefit?

    Thank you!

  11. The main difference for us when we switched from Royal to Celebrity (aside from what others have mentioned about the food and service) was the lack of children. Royal seems to be more family friendly with lots of things for the kiddos and young adults to do and see. When we are cruising with all of our family of varying ages, we opt for Royal. When we cruise by ourselves, we opt for the solitude of Celebrity. We are ages 50 and 52 and find the crowd on Celebrity to range from late 30's on up. Not a lot for the 20-somethings to do. Either way, we keep all of our cruises within the Royal or Celebrity family.

  12. I really appreciate your review of the good as well as the "bad" as I am a glass half full kinda gal. We too are scheduled for the Equinox March 31st sailing. I'm especially excited because I've splurged on a Royal suite as a surprise birthday present for my husband (ok, and me too). Your review of the ship's activities is a little concerning. We've only sailed on Reflection and Constellation and both were awesome! I'm pretty loyal to Celebrity and I think we are easy to please, but we also enjoy music venues and people watching before dinner. As for the theater shows, well I've never absolutely raved about any I've seen on any cruise line. We recently returned from a Thanksgiving cruise on Norwegian (our first and last by the way...here's my review if interested; https://www.cruisecritic.com/memberreviews/memberreview.cfm?EntryID=599782) and I will say that the activities for all ages were abundant to the point of casting quite a shadow over Celebrity. Having said that, I still think Celebrity is the way to go. I am hopeful that they will take note of feedback such as provided by OP and make necessary adjustments. For those who are eagerly awaiting their upcoming vacation, keep the faith! Your cruise will be what you make of it!

  13. I will be sailing on the Equinox leaving March 31st ....was wondering about the port times for our first stop in Puerto Rico. (and thanks to donaldsc's reminder (below) about a recent hurricane, let me preface my question by saying that Celebrity has not yet announced an itinerary change) We dock at 3:30 and depart at 11PM. I'm not really sure what we will do in that odd time frame. By 3:30 in the afternoon I'm thinking about cocktail hour and winding down the afternoon before getting ready for the evening. What ship venues will be open (besides restaurants) while docked in Puerto Rico? Is playing in the casino that evening (before 11) out of the question? Any recommendations on how to manage this 3:30 to 11 time frame?

    Thanks in advance!

  14. I’ve never sailed on the Divinia but just got off the Epic today and would not consider that ship again. My preference is Celebrity but we were traveling with a large group and the Epic just fit this time. Here are the pros and cons IMHO:

    Pros:

Lots to do on this ship. There’s something for everyone.

Drink package covers almost everything (except water)

    Cons:

Awkward staterooms with short beds. Expect to have your feet hang over.

Mediocre food with little variety from day to day

    Less than friendly wait staff

Unreliable reservation system for shows and dining venues

    Inefficient tendering process

Difficult to find a deck lounger on sea days

Having said all that, whether or not someone has a good time is really up to the traveler. We had a 5 star time on a 3 star ship. Good luck and safe travels.

  15. Use your room tv to book.

Sent from my iPad using Forums

Just got off the Epic today and tried to use the room tv for making reservations. Was about as effective as a screen door on a submarine. I would go through the proper steps to make my reservations, get a confirmation, only to learn when I showed up at the venue that there was no record of my reservation. So I recommend that you do face to face reservations with an individual (box office, restruant, etc).
