I don’t think the additional tip cultural that carnival has exists here. They don’t have receipts for write-ins which is kind of nice not having to sign..but..I haven’t personally seen any cash come out. That said we did pay double the drink gratuities that we would have on carnival. But we didn’t have to buy a drink package. I did do that $300 upgrade that got me more expensive liquors I won’t order..mostly for the Wi-Fi and and specialty dinners. Which I think turns out to be 1 specialty dinner since I lost one on the free at sea by purchasing it. I think that got me my Starbucks coffees as well but maybe someone else may be able to confirm that.

Your upgrade did get you the Starbucks coffees & you can order water (still & fizzy) which is not included in the normal free at sea.

You can also order bottles of wine & champagne & the more expensive liquors.

You only get 1 dining with an inside or ocean view room with the original free at sea (2 dinings is for balcony room & above) so you did get an additional 2 with the plus package.

We normally tip 1 or 2 dollars cash when ordering drinks.

Have you booked your speciality dining as these get booked up & you can’t always do walk ups?

I’ve all ready checked into it and since our layover will now be longer at Heathrow, I’ll be submitting my pub bill. I’ll let ya know what they say. And if there ends up being an issue with Hotel Thissio, I’ll submit that as well.

We got compensation as well as being reimbursed for our meal at Miami.

I’m not sure if you can claim compensation on your cancelled flight.

We booked direct with British airways for our January cruise from New Orleans.

Our return flight from Miami to Heathrow was cancelled & we were put on a flight 6 hours later, we then missed our connection from Heathrow to Istanbul so was put on another later flight.

I claimed compensation through their website & got €600 euros each.

We only paid $650 each for our return flights total so basically all our flights ended up being free.

Compensation can be claimed where you are either:

    1) Delayed at your final destination by more than three hours and that delay arises from causes within the carrier's control (rather than extraordinary circumstances which could not have been avoided by all reasonable measures).

    Or:

    2) Informed of a cancellation less than fourteen days before the planned departure date that arises from causes within the carrier's control (rather than extraordinary circumstances which could not have been avoided by all reasonable measures), unless you are offered a re-route which allows departure and arrival at your final destination within the following times:

    • If you are informed of the cancellation between thirteen and seven days before the scheduled time of departure and are offered re-routing, allowing you to depart no more than two hours before the scheduled time of departure and to reach your final destination less than four hours after the scheduled time of arrival; or

    • If you are informed of the cancellation less than seven days before the scheduled time of departure and are offered re-routing, allowing you to depart no more than one hour before the scheduled time of departure and to reach your final destination less than two hours after the scheduled time of arrival.

The levels of compensation are specified as follows:

    • EUR 250 for flights of 1500 km or less

    • EUR 400 for flights within the EU of more than 1500 km and for all other flights between 1500km and 3500 km

    • EUR 600 for all other flights.

Compensation is reduced by 50% if any re-routing offered to your final destination results in a scheduled arrival time which does not exceed the scheduled arrival time of the original flight by:

    • Two hours for flights of 1500 km or less

    • Three hours for all flights within the EU of more than 1500 km and for all other flights between 1500km and 3500 km

    • Four hours for all other flights.

Please note that passengers are not entitled to compensation if they have been informed of a cancellation fourteen days or more before the planned departure date. Passengers will be informed of cancellations via the contact details given to the operating carrier with the booking by the passenger, the purchaser of the ticket or the travel agent.

Find out how to claim compensation

Sorry Tribe, I need to take a moment to vent and whine about US government bureaucracy. So both my kids are US citizens- both have US passports and official US report of birth abroad documents. My 16 year has never had a SSN as when we registered her birth at the consulate in Vancouver, we took her Canadian birth certificate instead of the report of live birth (no clue what the difference is). Learned our lesson and the 11 year old got his SSN with his report of birth abroad.

For 16 years I’ve been trying to get a SSN for the oldest. It’s tricky as it must be done in person at an office in the US. I have spent many hours researching and n their website, emailing, and calling and each time I’ve tried to do it or spoken to someone I get different information. Today we tried to get one at the office in Seattle. The plus side is that we were first in line so mo wait. The downside is that, yet again, we were turned away and given different info. I felt confident that I had everything (and more) required this time. Passport, report of birth abroad, birth certificate, registration of live birth, Canadian care card. Today I was told I needed documentation proving her identity since birth! Huh? Nowhere does it say this on the website or the application. No one has ever told me this before. And how in the heck do I get this proof? Anyone know?

I would have thought a birth certificate is proof of identity from birth.

Hello all Tribe members, lurker here looking for some help.  We have a British Isles cruise on Azamara coming up in July.  We have never been to the UK and never sailed with Azamara. I am trying not to over pack, so I am looking for suggestions as to what type of clothing to bring for both excursions and on the ship.  Doing a Google search for weather in Ireland, England and Scotland in July lead me to expect rain and temps in the high 60s low 70s.  Do I even need to bring shorts/sandals?  Should I stick with long pants or capris.  I have a raincoat that I can layer something warmer underneath if needed.  And what about shoes....do I need in invest in a pair of waterproof/resistant shoes?

And for those of you with experience on Azamara, any input is appreciated on how to dress for dinner in the main dining room. Or any thoughts in general regarding Azamara.

We are just under 2 months away from this cruise and I am completely stressed about packing!  So thanks for ANY suggestions!!!

    Sarah

I am from the Uk originally.

The Uk in July can have all 4 seasons in one day. It can start out spring like then get sunny & hot, then rain & wind  & end up with autumn.

Light weight long pants & capris are good with maybe 1 pair of shorts. (They do have hot days)

A rain coat with layers under is good. Short sleeve T-shirt or blouse with a cardigan or jumper.
