  1. Just more reasons to keep taking any other types of vacations where you don't need to prove vaccination status, take a test or wear a mask. Just as much fun without all the stress.
  2. Not ready to book anything yet. We still don't trust that our cruise wouldn't have a last minute protocol change that would ruin the cruise for us. Add to that the reports of cutbacks and having to try to get a good check in time to secure the dining and entertainment reservations we would want just makes a cruise less desirable to book right now.
  3. That sounds like it may have had a problem. A lot of pelicans are used to people and fishermen will toss them scraps when they clean the fish. However, a healthy pelican will not behave in the way you describe.
  4. i am glad it flew away. For some reason we have had a pelican in distress surge at the refuge. Mostly entanglements and swallowed hooks. A few with botulism too. They each need 40 medium fish or 6 large fish a day so it has been a struggle getting enough fish for them. During the last couple of months we would have 7-8 pelicans in our care. I think we are finally down to just 1.
  5. An interesting bit of trivia. The brass beaver at the entrance of each is made in a foundry in Bastrop, Texas. The foundry has a tour and night pour twice a year. We went a few times and it was very interesting and fun to watch.
  6. Although it looks very crowded it does not feel that way. The bathrooms are huge and very clean. Their coffee is really good with a large variety of creamers etc. They usually have a lot of check outs open. They have different counters of food. There are healthy food choices also. I have not gotten the bbq but have gotten other prepared food there. I just order on the screens they have set up inside and then they call you when your order is ready. It doesn't take long and it is a good break from a long car trip. Of course there is all the home decor items I take a quick look at. LOL
  7. It is a clear bright blue sky here at home and a lovely 79 degrees outside. For our walk on the beach earlier it was slightly cooler and very foggy. There was a red flag warning. The fog still had not lifted after lunch at 2 p.m.
  8. It depends on the look you are going for. I like the mirror but for me it would be a little too large for the mantle.
  9. 1265 days and counting. I don't see any cruises in our future. I still hear of the occasional covid protocols being enforced so don't feel comfortable booking yet.
  10. I think of the day or two before as just part of my vacation. A time to see something of the area the ship is leaving from. Rent a car for a day or two and look around. Do a little research to find interesting sites for instance in Galveston there is the Strand, the beaches the pyramids etc. Find some interesting/good restaurants. Yes, it adds to the cost, but it can start the vacation off to a relaxing start.
  11. Brrr. The cold front arrived last night. This morning to take the dogs out I had on 2 coats, gloves, mittens and a hat. I will wear more clothing when I take Cocoa for an eye recheck today. Yuck. Wednesday night we went to the "Sowell's North Pole" It was a very nice display and a former "Light Fight" winner. Then yesterday we went to the casino in Mississippi. There were a lot of speed traps on the way so watch out on the highways. The casino had beautiful displays for Christmas. I didn't win but my son and his GF came out ahead.
  12. It is 48F here this morning. Supposed to get to 62F later today. My son, his GF and I are going to Biloxi to the casino for the day. Then the cold weather that has escaped the north is going to come for a visit. I will be an unhappy camper for at least 5 days weather wise. It will definitely feel like Christmas. Brrrr the coldest night will be Friday at 17F. Pipes are covered, plants are in, pets never stay outside and Rocco's jacket is by the door, now I need to find my heaviest jacket, gloves, scarf and maybe long undies.
