I did Alaska in May of 2008 (on Holland America). For me it was the trip of a lifetime, and decided to do more than just cruise.
So we did a long land tour ending with a 4-night cruise. If you really want to see something besides glaciers, that's what I'd recommend. Go inland.
We did Anchorage, Denali, Fairbanks, Tok, Chicken, Eagle, Dawson City, Carcross, and other stops.
Here's my photo album:

To simply visit the coast does not do justice to the unimaginable majesty of Alaska.
I totally agree with this! We did a 15 day trip. The first 8 days was land and we saw Denali, Carcross, Talkeetna, the Kenai Peninsula, Wrangell - St Elias State Park and so much more!
If you do this I recommend doing land portion first because you're more active and then you can relax more on the cruise (sea days / glacier watching from the ship).
We started our trip on Memorial Day weekend and couldn't ask for better weather. BUT - you still need layers. When you're up close and personal with a glacier it gets really really cold! :p
Enjoy the research and planning! That's half the fun!!!

THX for the responses. I guess I should also mention that we will have 3 kids with us- a 10 month old (will be in a stroller), a 7 & 8 yr old. Is it still walkable with kids?
Also a lot of cobblestone streets. When we were there it was in late April and it was hot and humid. It was just me and hubby. I don't think I would want to walk around OSJ with a stroller.

Our first cruise was interior. We didn't go for many years after that. Next one was Alaska - had to get a balcony for that. Now we're spoiled! So I would stick with interior. Balconies are great, but if you're trying to save some cash I say option 1 as well. There's always next time or even later to do a balcony. Just my thoughts. Happy cruising!!

Following! And watching your sailaway too! We're on Freedom in April.
Enjoy your cruise!!!

I will have to find something else to spend the Visa redemption OBC on. I already had $300 OBC for booking on my last cruise so I just spent $32 per day per person for drink packages for me and DH! Can't go wrong with that!!!
Thanks again!!
-
There's no pattern to the "sales". However, if you purchase and later find the price has gone down, you can cancel and re-order. If you initially pay with OBC, you get that OBC back instantly when you cancel.
Thanks Bob for your help!
I really appreciate it!

My cruise is at the end of April 2018 and I was really hoping to use it for the cyber Monday sale. I know there is no guarantee, but what are the chances the drink package will go on sale again before the cruise? It seems like it usually does.
Thanks for your quick responses!! :-)

I redeemed some points on Saturday for OBC. Can I use it in the cruise planner to purchase drink packages? I called, and they told me I won't see it until at least tomorrow, but is that true? They also told me the drink package sale wasn't available for my cruise, which ended up not being true. Seems like some of the employees don't know what they're talking about.

Following! 154 days until it's our turn! Enjoy your cruise!!

I went on this morning and I'm able to get the drink package at $43! Problem is that I have $250 OBC that I just redeemed yesterday to help pay for it. This was from my RC Visa. I'm told this won't show up on my account for at least 2 business days! I honestly don't know what I would spend this on other than the deluxe bev pkg. We really don't buy anything on the ship.
I have $300 OBC from booking my next cruise on my last cruise and then this $250 I just redeemed. I should have known that the $250 wouldn't show up right away.
I'm also part of a group booking which seems like that just causes more confusion.
Not sure what I should do at this point. If I could use all $550 OBC I would only be paying $261.84 out of pocket for the bev package on an 8 day cruise for 2 people!
I wonder if I call again and talk to a manager if I could get that $250 to be added.

Got some good deals for our April 2018 cruise, the non alcoholic drink packages were down to 18/pp from 26/pp and some of the cruise excursions were 30% off too. I saved a few hundred overall.
So you were able to get the discount for your April 2018 cruise? I couldn't. I'm on Freedom on April 28th and they're telling me I can't get the discount. They said its not available on cruises that far out. I tried to tell them that I logged in to my cruise and it was there. He couldn't explain it, but said that it was not available.
-
So, after sitting on hold for more than 30 minutes they tell me that the discounted beverage package does not apply to my sailing in April. I told them that I signed in to my reservation and it shows $43/person. Nope - doesn't apply to my sailing. This make no sense to me!!!
-
Website must be jammed. I can't purchase bev pkg. I keep getting errors and have been sitting on hold for almost 20 minutes. Ugh!!!

Top Tier is usually Platinum level and above.
We will become platinum on our upcoming cruise. I'm assuming we won't be invited to Top Tier event since technically we won't be platinum until after the cruise?

On freedom, been stuck behind HAL leaving now :)

What itinerary? Have a blast!! :)

Too many, but it's getting closer!! 169 days! Wish I could get DH to want to go on more cruises!

Thanks for everyone's prompt replies!!
I booked directly through Royal by phone back in July. There is no green tab at all. These are the tabs that are showing:
Overview, Messages,Cruise Planner, Cruise Docs, Cruise Details, and Tips&Reminders. No Payment tab.
.
I guess I'll just have to call and see if they can fix it.
Did you by chance, become part of a group reservation? If that's the case then you can no longer pay online. That's just happened to me last week.

Following! Awesome so far! Enjoy!
Sure seems like you were delayed a lot longer. I was watching sail away of all 7 ships on the Port Everglades webcams! Was hoping to see Freedom sail away when it was light out. We're on Freedom in April!

Hi!
We're sailing on Freedom of the Seas in April with a group of friends. DH and I have a Grand Suite and I was wondering if we could host a party in our stateroom. Right now our group is about 16 to 20 people. Not sure if there's enough room to do this in a grand suite?
I'd like to have some drinks and snacks, maybe on the first sea day, which I believe is the 1st full day. How can I do this? I'd like to plan it before we leave, if this is possible.
Thanks for any help!
Carol

Awesome! Enjoy your cruise!!

Yes, it’s 6:54 EST and we haven’t moved.
Yeah, I've been watching. I hope you all get out soon!! Still wondering what is going on? Are they telling you anything?

scroll down to Natalie Smith post
I think you may be talking about a group and not RC's official C&A page? Not sure but I just requested to join a RC C&A group but have to be accepted.

Is Freedom still being detained?

Any updates as to what was going on? Still didn't find that post on that social media site.
