  1. I did find this one. Check out 10:20 and 18:20 for thoughts on the Windjammer.
  2. Agreed, we'll be on the Quantum in a month. Would love to see the video. Can you share? Thanks.
  3. Yes, exactly. She gets frustrated when she can't work out! I'm the same way. As I get older I get so frustrated with injuries (typically caused by working out, of all things). It just takes so long to recover, and I get frustrated forcing myself not to exercise. Thank you all who have suggested a scooter. That is much more her style. She doesn't like being fussed over. 🙂 Thanks to all who mentioned Amtrak. It certainly is an option. I'll mention it to them. My mom has taken it many times from nearby to see my sister in Milwaukee. I'll ask that they think of that option all the way to Seattle. My dad likes driving though. (not sure why LOL)
  4. Thanks again for these suggestions! My dad did call this morning and the Chase card does provide $1500 for each of them. That essentially covers the cruise fair for their balcony cabin if indeed they cannot go. The rest, taxes and port fees and prepaid grats will get refunded automatically. However, the preferred option is still for them to go. Can't wait to go see her today, she's in good spirits all things considered. She's a tough little lady.
  5. Looked into it, but is nearly the same price for an umbrella versus the same coverage I have for all our policies. Michigan is “unique”
  6. I want to thank all of you that showed so much care for my mom and for your helpful input. It will be interesting to see how this all plays out. They are going to try to give it a go, but reality might prove otherwise. Here’s hoping, and praying. Just like the previous poster, whose son had a rod placed in his femur from knee to hip, that is what my mom had done today. Now that it’s stable hopefully it will provide more and more confidence over the coming weeks! Thanks again for your time to post and for your kindness. It’s been a long day, we’ll certainly sleep well on it. 😊 -Dan
  7. Love your comments. Thank you. My dad said she initially didn't think the cruise was a possibility so soon with her leg and all, but warmed up to the idea of giving it a try right before she went in for surgery. However, I'm a guy. Dan. No worries, I used to sign all my posts with -Dan, but that got tedious. I'm a "He", and no I don't use pronouns. LOL
  8. Have you thought of the fact that my dad has been sitting in the emergency room and waiting room since this happened? He's still at the hospital and is just now getting to see her after surgery. Yeah, that's exactly what's on his mind right now, calling Royal Caribbean. This is their reservation made directly with Royal so he will be contacting them when he can, with the options. It's been a busy hectic day. I'll be reaching out to Royal tomorrow as well, when I can, as planned. Hindsight is always 20/20 isn't it? Insurance only makes sense when you need it. Don't try to scold me, or others, when they don't purchase it. So far, our family is FAR ahead not purchasing it. (see my comments below) In that odd chance something comes up when insurance would have helped, so be it. We're fine with that. I never said otherwise. I respect your decisions. Glad that you are happy with your decisions, as are we, as are my parents. There is always going to be the decision of whether or not trip insurance is worth it. This thread was not meant for that. They didn't purchase it. We didn't purchase it. Maybe next time they will. We do purchase standalone medical and evac insurance for cruises to locations where it makes sense. To date, we are far ahead not purchasing it. With the cruising we've done to date, and how frequently we've cruised, it would have easily cost our family two full cruises if we had purchased trip insurance every time. We are still far ahead not purchasing it, but know the risk and are o.k. with that. So far, we are the smart ones not buying it so we don't need to learn from anyone's experiences. I've probably spent about $90,000 in car insurance over the last 30 years, with about $4000 total in claims. Who won in that situation? Not us.
  9. If it is like the last time, she would just have a long, soft but immobile leg brace on. Her hip is still mobile so she could still get up and walk for short distances when necessary.
  10. Thank you for asking. The surgery went very well. She is 77 years old but a very healthy 77. She is still on the treadmill every day. She broke her other femur about five years ago and that healed very well. She does have some minor bone density issues like many her age. I guess she likes to do things in pairs. 🙂
  11. Thanks for that. She is in surgery now, broken femur as well. Almost certainly inserting rods like you mention.
  12. Thanks, but no, I've done all our own bookings directly for years (I think I'm going to start changing that though for group rates and possible perks like OBC). Hence, why I'm asking here.
  13. Thank you all. Believe me, if she can go, she will. She's a real go getter and exercises regularly and is fit. It was just a fluke thing with some water on the bathroom floor. One issue is the cruise is out of Seattle and they (as well as my family) live in Michigan. Not sure flying is recommended 4 weeks from leg surgery. There is the option of driving, with frequent breaks to walk. They've driven that route multiple times before as my youngest sister lives in Seattle. We'll see how this plays out today and tomorrow. Either way the 25% cruise fare refund isn't worth all that much anyway, only about $900, so it's probably better to risk it and see if she's o.k. right up until cruise time, or find someone else who can go with. It is a real bummer if they can't end up going. This cruise was all about them and their four children's families all going to Alaska together. We have 6 balcony cabins booked on this cruise between my parents and my siblings' families. Praying they can go, even if it is in a wheel chair!
  14. Just found out that my mom broke her leg. Sounds like she's o.k. all things considered. A decent chance she will not be able to cruise 32 days from now. My Dad and her are booked in a balcony cabin for our Alaskan cruise. If one of them can't go, neither will go. They did not purchase trip insurance. They knew the risk and are fine with that, so please no judgmental comments. I'm just looking at the options, if any? They are in the 25% refund stage through tomorrow. So, is there any way to transfer the fare to a different future cruise so that they don't lose so much of the balance? Can they replace both of them with another couple, or does one name still need to stay? If one name stays, and they change the other name and then as embarkation the primary name doesn't show, will they allow the second new person to board? If they cancel, all prepurchased items will be reimbursed, as well as taxes and port fees and prepaid gratuities?
  15. You go into the app and click the little person icon in the top, right as in the first photo, then choose “select a different cruise” as circled in the second photo. Then scroll to the bottom, where it says ”Browse our ships” then click the ship and sailing date that you would like. Then find the dining venue are interested in and look at the menu. This works for the bars and MDR as well.
  16. This is what I was going to post, or something similar. OP, what you describe sounds like Celebrity. Kids don't get points at all until 18 years old. You can't even get a "Captain's Club" number until 18 years old. On Celebrity, all those in one cabin get the status of the highest ranking person in that room, just for that cruise. I asked about this because our 16 yr old son is Diamond on Royal, and we are sailing Celebrity in December. He is in a room with his sisters (21 and 19) who are Emerald in their own right on Royal. I called Celebrity to see if we would get the matching Elite status on Celebrity, but they said no because he's not 18 yet. I believe what you heard is incorrect. Minors are still accumulating their own points on Royal if they actually sail. Dan
  17. Black coffee is just too hard on my stomach nowadays. The basic pH nature of creamer offsets the strong acidity of coffee. I used to have an iron stomach, but my age is catching up to my stomach I guess. I don't mind black coffee but it's rough on me. I suspect many are in the same boat (no pun intended). Creamer (not milk) is incredibly popular in coffee here in the US. All of the flavored creamers are more like half and half as well, very creamy. Myself, I use half and half. I've never had a problem finding it on a Royal ship going back 10+ years. The only time having issues is when the carafe was empty, and I resorted to milk. We'll see next month I guess, when we are on the Quantum in Alaska.
  18. You can request a physical copy from your room steward no matter the cabin. We were on the Anthem in March in insides and I asked the room steward if I could get hard copies and they appeared every day like they used to.
  19. Seriously? No Half & Half. That is ridiculous. Interested to see how this plays out and if it's just a short term issue.
  20. As an added bonus it makes the adult beverages more effective later in the evening. 😉 😄
