I just used four certificates to book two staterooms during the double up period. Used two for our room and gifted two to our travel buddies. Easy peasy.

Can you tell me about the "double up"?  I just received a message about my cruise next certificate and he said something about Doubling but I don't know what that means.  Can you usually only use one Cruise Next per stateroom?  TIA

  2. There's a selfie kiosk in the Brew Pub. I think it will post direct to Facebook if you want. I believe there's another one near the Casino. I'll add my agreement that Pinchos is not to be missed. Tapas plates for just a few bucks each so we didn't use our Specialty Dining there, just added it to our bill. We stuffed ourselves for around $30.00.

Forgot to mention this bar right next to the cruise ships. It's called Calico Jacks, it has planks in the side that you can jump off of into the water, and floaties to hang out on.

We went here last October on our cruise and had a blast. Very relaxed, just a place to hang out and have fun after excursions before heading back for dinner. Most in our party took turns walking the plank.

  4. We received the $25 credit each for Bermuda port tax, had a balcony room.

We fortunately had great service in all the MDRs, except there was one waiter in Manhattan who refused to let anyone speak while he took our drink order...to the point of holding out his hand and saying "Stop. Stop speaking". One of the ladies was just saying "make it two" as she wanted the same drink. She got the hand in her face and "Shhh, shhh, shhh" we laughed but it was rude. And weird. Everyone else was great, our water always filled, grated cheese offered and general follow-up to make sure all was ok.

  5. I was on this cruise too. Rough on the way out, at one point we had 24 ft waves. Bermuda was lovely and while we completely understand the Captain knows better than any of us, we were wondering why we left early only to crawl our way back at 11 knots.

Pool was closed most of the time but we wanted hot tubs anyway. Weather was actually better than I expected and we had a great cruise. Purchased CND so we'll be going again :)

  6. I'm staying optimistic. The current trend seems to be Jose is weakening and the noaa forecast shows it to be at tropical storm strength 2AM Monday with the very outskirts touching Bermuda. I'm hoping we can sail south closer to shore then up to Bermuda for our Wednesday arrival. I'm home just 6 six days from a trip to Canada so I really don't wanna go back right now :loudcry:

  7. I think a good place to meet up is the Grand Staircase as it's easily recognizable and pretty much straight in. If you're concerned about crowding you could meet at the bottom on deck 6. Headliners is right there. That area was not crowded at all when we boarded. Also, avoid elevators at all costs during embarkation if you're able.

  8. We were on the Gem on an Eastern Caribbean cruise that sailed the end of March until April 6th in 2015. It was myself, DH, my MIL and my Dad. My MIL was suppose to go with us to Bermuda on the Breakaway in Sept 2014 but was hospitalized so she had to cancel. She said afterwards that she would definitely go on another cruise before she dies. After that hospitalization, she mainly got around with a walker or wheelchair. So needless to say, we had to take these things with us. So many crew members on the Gem assisted us with getting her on and off the ship at all ports, and also helped in the dining rooms and buffet. Every night, Mandy and Joey from the cruise directors staff would come see her and hug her before the shows. She was like a celebrity. The rest of us just chuckled at all the attention at the time. Sadly, 20 days after returning home, my MIL suddenly passed away. Now, DH and I are so extremely grateful for how the Gem staff made her feel and we tell senior officers all the time about it. We did run into Mandy again this past Feb on the Epic. We gave her hugs every time we saw her because that is what my MIL would have wanted.

    What a sweet story.

  9. You can order any liquor that they have on board with the UBP. If the cost exceeds $15 you pay the difference + 18%. This applies to any mixed drink or cocktail too. There are some times when specific drinks are excluded from the UBP.

I understand paying the difference, but haven't I already paid the 18% when I purchased? (It was one of our "free at sea" options).

  10. For some, but we like coffee with muffins or danish and enjoy it on our balcony in the morning air.

Same. Even if it's just coffee (though I do like a muffin too)...DH and I enjoy the slow wake-up on the balcony watching the waves and quiet time together.

  11. Bayamo, La Cucina, Moderno, Cagney's all have outdoor seating. I believe if you're at the Wine Cellar you can order food from Pincho's but I'm not sure. I don't know if you can reserve outdoor space prior but on our cruise last October it seemed space was usually available. A lot of people ate inside where there was a/c, more for humidity rather than heat.

  12. I just recently sent out emails to resorts inquiring about this. Below is response from Elbow & Coco, respectively. Also, based on the link provided by njhorseman, only Coco allows use of pool in addition to beach access.

    Elbow:

    Good Day,

The beach does offer day passes. They are $100.00 for 2 people. They come as a first come first serve basis so I would recommend coming to the beach early. The Beach opens at 9am. The pass includes 2 chairs & an umbrella, as well as, full access to the beach, facilities, & equipment.

    Kind Regards,

    Concierge Agent

    Sacha Dill

    Coco:

    Good day,

Yes we do have day past hey are 99per person.

  13.

HTH, and thanks for watching. : )

Yes, definitely helps! And thanks also for the detail on KS Sports, good to know how serious they take it.

SBtS - wow! Those are some intense cliffs (for me) :p Good info though - my friends might be more into that so I'll pass it along.

  14. Great video! Thanks for posting it. I've always been a bit nervous to go parasailing though I want to...watching your video makes it less scary for me -- seeing the nuts and bolts of it. We'll be in Bermuda next month and I'd really like to try it. Which company did you use? They looked like they had their act together. Also, where were you jumping off cliffs into the water? That looks like a lot of fun.

  15. On the ordering drinks only, I was a little confused too as "cover charge" implies pay to get in. I've only cruised once before (on Escape) but if I remember, the other specialty restaurants were a la carte -- many with small plates you could order for just $3-$7. With a drink or 2, this is a fun way to spend some time.

So, here, if my group of friends and I want to hang out for a bit at Margaritaville with a few UBP drinks and decide to split some nachos to munch on, we'll be in the hole $90? LOL

  16. We were on the Escape last October and were able to watch our NY Giants. We asked if they would be showing the game (that night) at the Brew Pub and were told "no, we'll have music" and we were bummed because that would be the perfect place to see the game. Instead, they were showing it on the big screen on deck by the pool. I thought it was 'okay'... I liked being out in the fresh air with stars, but there weren't many other people or that pub feel.

We learned later they DID show it at the Brew Pub and a great time was had by all. :( DH was not happy to find that out (for us - good for everybody else, lol). Be sure to double check if they tell you no.

  17. Sorry to tell you, but there is deck 13, as we've stayed on that deck twice.

Alas, there's no bar ;) (or free drinks)

OP - You don't say when you're sailing but I'm on the Breakaway to Bermuda 9/17. You might want to find your roll call and see what's up there. You'll get acquainted with people on your sailing and may find many of your questions answered. Enjoy your cruise!

  18. We plan to bring a couple of these. The blow up easily & are small enough when closed up to fit in my kids backpacks.

Those spring floats work great! We have a couple we use here at home on the lake and will be bringing them. Nice and flat in the suitcase.
