  1. We returned in September from a river cruise on the Rhine and Moselle. Uniworld... River Queen... Amsterdam to Basel...It was a third cruise with Uniworld. A few years ago we cruised the Castles on the Rhine itinerary on the SS Antoinette (Uniworld) a new ship...This trip was 12 days and it was a repeat of the Rhine which was ok but the Moselle is simply beautiful...We like Uniworld because of the all inclusive aspect ...there were a few optional excursions that you can pay for extra.. We loved the cruise but cabins were exceptionally small but price was right ...enjoy..

  2. We have cruised with Uniworld twice and it's wonderful being all inclusive. We came off the ship with a bill of $168.00 for our optional excursion ..... ..We tipped our housekeeper extra at the end of our two week cruise she was exceptional..Also every evening before dinner we had a cocktail before dinner in the lounge. The waiter knew our drink and was always so cordial to us. We also tipped him.. The crew all worked very hard..

  3. JP .. so enjoyed all your post especially India. I love the forum it's fun contributing to the questions. Its so interesting to view different itineraries like yours! India, China, Russia, Vietnam places that I would never visit but enjoy the posts...I think we are done traveling it is getting difficult for husband so now we will stay in the States enjoy long weekends😀..We have some great memories...Happy Traveling...

  4. Paul... So glad someone responded to my review! I had to refer to my daily schedules difficult to remember every detail.. I am sure I omitted a few things.. No trips planned we have cruised most itinerary's... I know the SS ships are newer but we loved the intimacy of the River Queen. 😀😀

  5. My two cents about flying to Europe on an overnight flight. We flew to Amsterdam from Boston a few weeks ago for the beginning of our Rhine and Moselle river cruise. We are both healthy and are 70ish and neither one of us slept a wink. You forget all the walking between gates etc. It's truly exhausting. We have been to Amsterdam before so we decided to go directly to ship no precruise in Amsterdam.. On previous trips to Europe we tried not to nap and stay awake and retire early not this time! We just wanted to lay down and sleep ..Unfortunately rooms were not ready until midafteroon... We unpacked showered ate an early lunch and relaxed before dinner.. we retire early the first evening after dinner.. It never gets any easier first day is brutal😬😬

  6. We had a farewell party for Dr. Z.. He left to work on new Uniworld cruise ship. U-Uniworld designed for younger age 21-40 something..loved the River Queen but rooms were so small very difficult to keep our things neat😱We were fortunate to have free laundry two a week so at least we could get rid of our dirty laundry..

  7. Uniworld River Queen continued review... 13 days of excursions is lot to cover so I will try to give an overview of each day...First day Amsterdam canal trip with choice of Van Gogh or Rijsmuseum. We chose Van Gogh the guide was so informative 5 stars...Day two Cologne walking tour and beer tasting. We had been to Cathedral before and guide was rather boring but beer tasting was lots of fun,,,Koblenz. We did a walking tour. A word of caution there was an optional tour of Marksburg Castle I have read many reviews and we opted out . Very treacherous and some people remained on the bus stairs to castle very dangerous. So be warned! Cocham tour of Reichsburg Castle....spectacular views very interesting tour...we had a wine tasting in the afternoon very enjoyable.. Trier and Luxembourg with WW11 cemetery highlight for my husband very moving...Bernkastel Such a pretty village sorry we didn't have more time..optional bike ride along Moselle river. Rudesheim very touristy not my favorite extremely crowded. Siegfried's Museum of musical instruments fun! Speyer should have skipped this tour too long getting toured out!! Strasbourg canal trip ...Stayed in town for lunch and Uniworld arranged for hourly shuttles back to ship..optional Black Forest trip in the afternoon. We did this trip a few years ago and we loved it..Last day we chose Colmar voted prettiest town in the world..Venice of France. Lovely town walking tour and a short amount of time for coffee and pastry. The alternative excursion was the Alsatian Villages which also is great but we did this tour a few years ago.. We did have two afternoons of sailing the Rhine and Moselle. Moselle is simply breathtaking... The highlight for us was having dinner with new friends.. Entertainment with Brendan each night playing piano was also a highlight of this cruise. Being an older ship,we found the acoustics in dining room and lounge to be terrible. Difficult trying to hear our table mates noise level was deafening...wifi also not good..I had to go to lounge no wifi from cabin. Be prepared...Uniworld does an exceptional job we loved every moment. We were treated like royalty. Martin the cruise director exceptional...

  8. Uniworld River Queen continued review..addressing what to wear! So much has been written on this forum on attire for dining room.. Very casual in fact I noticed more and more people didn't change for dinner and they looked fine.. Except for Captains's dinner and farewell dinner people were very casual..Also noticed more men wore dinner jackets maybe because the weather was cooler! My husband wore only nice dress shirt...I wore my black pants most nights with different tops, scarfs or jewelry. Please take a comfortable support type shoe. Cobblestones were very difficult to walk. Very cool mornings but warmed to 60's in afternoon perfect walking weather...Excursions usually start early 8:30 or 9 am..

  9. We sailed Sept 16-28 Rhine Moselle Uniworld River Queen our third river cruise with Uniworld. I will try and answer any questions. Our first two Uniworld cruises were on the SS Antoinette and River Royal... The River Queen is an older ship but also lovely very easy to navigate.. Negatives.... small rooms, bathrooms, poorly designed closet and light switches were the most common complaints. We had too much stuff😥 We had two free laundry's a week ( Heritage Club Members) so we didn't have to deal with laundry.. We were delayed at Amsterdam airport with our luggage computer glitch and it was several hours before we met our Uniworld representative. Departure from airport was swift and we arrived on ship about 12:30. A light lunch was served but At this point was husband was not feeling well totally exhausted and needed to have our room ready. The procedure on the ship is everyone enters room at 2 o'clock .. People did complain because the rooms were ready the doors were open to view...He layed down on a couch in the lounge ... We managed!!! We couldn't take a brief walk weather was rain and cool... . The dining room mostly tables of six, eight and and maybe a few tables of ten..no tables for two.. Dinner at 7. Food very good.. lunch and breakfast buffet...I will continue with rest of review tomorrow..EXCURSIONS......also most asked questions on this forum. Will be answered.... what woman wore at dinner ? Sport coats for men? What to pack... continue soon....

  10. I will try to answer questions and maybe do a review when I get settled and unwind from my 13 day trip Rhine and Moselle...We had been cancelled from our original date of August 23 to Set 16.. The weather was perfect for walking and all the excursions. A bit of cloudy and mist the first few days but rest of time cool mornings sunshine in afternoon mid to high 60's.. Just layered wore scarfs and peeled as we warmed up... Ship is older but easy to navigate ...Our room cat 3 two large windows but very small all rooms on the River Queens are the same square ft except for 4 suites.. no balconies. Cat 4 have windows that open....Staff was awesome ... I enjoyed the food but a few of my table mates had a few complaints( more salad choices).. I was ok with the choices... I will answer specific questions. Toward the end we were all toured out! Too much information we could no longer grasp😩.. All and all and awesome trip..

  11. so busy I wanted to post a few comments about the River Queen itinerary... we were delayed at Amsterdam airport after overnight flight from Boston. Almost 2 Hrs due to a glitch in getting our luggage. 35 minutes at customs so we were very tired. Uniworld representative was waiting for us and we arrived about noon time aboard ship. My husband has a problem with fatigue and we couldn't occupy our rooms until 2 o'clock. We asked if they could possibly clean our room so my husband could lay down.. They told us they would let us know and sit in lounge. Never happened... We survived first day which is totally exhausting! Staff and food are wonderful.. Very cool for September and a bit of rain but today sunshine☀️☀️☀️..Room is small but we are managing.. I will try and give a review of excursions tomorrow..

  12. I will definitely respond to,you questions when I return.. Especially the age factor. To me it really doesn't matter .. We are very active over 60 but you might like the bike excursions and their are a few hikes you might enjoy...:)

  13. Finally😀Our river cruise for Aug 23 was cancelled due to mechanical problems. We were really disappointed but Uniworld gave us a few alternatives but we preferred this itinerary Rhine and Moselle. A few very stressful glitches like hurricane Irma.. we live in Naples, Fl ...6 months but we are ok for the moment.. .. So suitcases are packed and we finally hope this will be a wonderful trip.. 😀😀

  14. Notamermaid... our place in Fl. Is ok unfortunately many places are devastated..no power for a few weeks but we will deal with it when we return from our river cruise. Monitoring alerts about rain and wind on the Rhine... I keep throwing warmer clothes in suitcase... Don't mind a shower but not torrential rain.. Do you see any improvement on the horizon? We leave Friday...for Amsterdam...😬

  15. Notamermaid. Looks like rain following me to Europe. Haven't packed rain clothes yet! leaving Friday...We are really stressed we live in Naples Fl. 6 months of the year. Trying to stay positive but now we are safe in Boston ... Not knowing if we will have a place to return to has taken joy out of our upcoming river cruise...Hurricaine due to hit tomorrow.. saying our prayers for Florida...

  16. Monitoring weather daily and Rhine looks very cool and rainy! Anyone just returning to give an opinion. Preparing to pack rain gear we leave in a week... Also monitoring weather in Fl. we live there part time and another worry before we leave next week...Keeping our fingers crossed and saying our prayers for all the people that will be impacted with this dangerous storm...

  17. We were on the Avalon Creativity 2015 our first time cruising Avalon. After dinner we would go to lounge and listen to Merlin keyboard and singer absoutely fabulous. He made our trip. Usually we would just have an after dinner drink and retire early..There was dancing and always a fun evening. We are usually exhausted and this was just our type of entertainment .
