  1. My friends just returned from a wonderful Cruise on the new Viking Baltic itinerary. We usually cruise Uniworld all inclusive but usually give extra personally to housekeeper, bartender etc.. Their gratuities on Viking were over $400 for a15 days cruise. They were under the impression gratuities were to pay services of staff waiters, housekeepers. They asked the waiter confidentialy what percentage they received.. She was astonished they get nothing. Viking pays their round trip airfare home and their wifi. This certainly seems unfair...:(

  2. Commenting on table situation in dining room.. My last river cruise we traveled with our friends and they didn't care to mingle and always wanted a table for four. Well we really missed socializing and on our past four River cruise we usually dined with at least 6-8 people in a round table. We would usually sit at lounge before dinner have a drink and inviting people that we met to join us for dinner. Only drawback..... sometimes we wanted to sit a few nights with different table mates and I think some people were miffed😬 Not every couple is compatible! Traveling as couple this time and we are looking forward to our new fellow cruisers...

  3. Today I paid our final payment for our third River cruise with Uniworld. We are leaving August 22...our first two week cruise the Rhine and Moselle. It's just as exciting as our first river cruise. We had absolutely no plans for another River cruise. An excellent can't pass up deal by Uniworld on a internet travel site that my TA matched😀.. So let the planning begin. We are seniors very active our philosophy do it while we can...Just stay healthy....... we are thrilled to be cruising again with Uniworld. Definitely our favorite cruise line...

  4. We have cruised both itineraries. You will not be ...disappointed . We are repeating the Rhine in August which will include the Moselle. Paris and Normandy was never my first choice but we received a great deal on Avalon two years ago so we booked with Avalon. We traveled with our friends their 50th anniversary and husband was a veteran. My recommendation is stay in Paris pre cruise it's great. . We usually always try and book with Uniworld we like the all inclusive. Avalon was fine. :)

  5. Ok ...I will comment on the packing situation. Taking my fifth River cruise the end of August Rhine and Moselle. Our last cruise was the first week in Sept and I was totally unprepared for the very cool mornings. I had to purchase a warm jacket in Rouen...Most important is comfy shoes. I bring Teva sandals and schechers black and beige. Dressy pair of sandals for evening. This trip it will be warm and I will bring capris and a few Chico three quarter sleeve jerseys for daytime. Pack black slacks and a few dressy tops, I have a plain black dress dress up with scarf and jewelry...No need to bring shampoo, conditioner and body lotions. Also a light rain jacket ...We have cruised this itinerary you will love Uniworld...Gorgeous ship great food...

  6. Just a quick question on forwarding pictures to cruise critic forum . I received your quick reply on instructions. I am always using my I pad to take pictures forward to Facebook and friends etc.. Do you have to somehow use the cruise critic app to forward and post? Sorry to be so techie illerate I took a picture followed the instructions but no

    I con on left corner..

  7. We are cruising On the River Queen the end of August. This will be our third Uniworld trip. The other ships were newer but we wanted to cruise this itinerary.. we are in cat. 3 but hopefully maybe get an upgrade as Heritage Club members. What was your favorite port? My husband looking forward to Trier and WW2,memorials..This will be our longest cruise and we are very excited to be cruising Moselle. Cruised Rhine a few years ago..

  8. Responding to above thread. We are cruising Uniworld in August ...Rhine and Moselle. This will be our third Uniworld trip. I don't remember paying for an extra gourmet dinner. I do remember on the SS Antoinette making reservations for a special Chef dinner no charge. Is this a new policy? Is it a specific itinerary? We will be on the River Queen will this be an option.. Our last Uniworld cruise we departed paying absoutely nothing everything included..:)

  9. I will chime in on a few questions and answers on above posts. We are taking our third Uniworld cruise this August River Queen Rhine and Moselle. We booked this cruise through a deal on one of the online travel deals. not sure if I can give the name! Well I called my TA and she was able to book with this promotion. The price was too good to pass up plus a great deal on Uniworld with air fare. We had to book airfare immediately but I gave TA my itinerary on Delta and was she was able to secure our flights. The only downside to deal, was two dates to choose from...Aug 23 or Nov 1....We have always booked June or early Sept. A bit concerned if August will be too warm! .... Bottom line there always seems to be a good deal lately on River Cruises..:D

  10. Notamermaid....Enjoying your informative posts..We are cruising Rhine and Moselle the end of August on Uniworld. We usually cruise either June or September but this was a fantastic deal, and only two choices of dates the other Date Nov 1. What about crowds and heat this time of year? We have cruised Castles on the Rhine two years ago the first of June and weather was perfect... very excited about cruising Moselle.. also first time cruising 13 days... thx again for your posts.

  11. We are cruising the same itinerary the end of August Also on Uniworld River Queen.... This will be our second visit to Amsterdam. The first time we stayed two days precruise this time we are going directly to ship. We love Amsterdam... If possible try and secure tickets to Ann Frank House you can buy online. We enjoyed the museums. The flower market was very interesting also tour of red light district. Great walking and trolleys are easy to negotiate. Enjoy you will love it. Anxious to hear review when you return. This will be our fourth cruise on Uniworld. River Queen is an older ship but has gotten very good reviews.. Enjoy....

  12. Ok I will chime in on the subject of what to take and what to wear. We are taking our fourth Uniworld river cruise this August. I am such an over packer but this time I will try and pack less.. we will be on ship for thirteen days. Pack for a week and rotate clothes. No sport coat for hubby needed. My husband brought two nice long sleeve dress shirts, golf shirts and Tommy Bahama type shirt. Nice slacks and chino type pants..Maybe this time shorts for excurisions might be hot..The best think to pack for woman is a pair of black pants for evening and I am bringing a basic black dress. Dress it up with jewelry and a scarf. Dinner is not formal very casual (COUNTRY CLUB CASUAL....). Bottom line be comfortable.. Most important bring a good pair walking shoes... enjoy you will love Uniworld.

  13. Yikes! Didn't realize that it could get that warm... I am not good in the heat. Maybe November would have been a better option! It's the end of August first week of September. We went to Paris & Normandy two years ago first week in September and the mornings were very chilly... I had to shop for a fleece jacket ..

  14. We are booked for August 23 Uniworld(third cruise with Uniworld), Rhine and Moselle itinerary .. This was an exceptional deal but we had only a few choices of dates August and November! We chose August. We usually cruise the beginning of June and September. Will the end of August be very warm? We are repeating the Rhine having cruised the Castles on the Rhine a few years ago on the SS Antoinette. Beautiful ship great trip. We were interested in cruising the Moselle. Love Uniworld and this is an older ship but received some good reviews. Thx. Appreciate feedback on ship and itinerary...

  15. We have booked Rhine and Moselle Uniworld August 2017... There was a wonderful promotion so we booked and we had only a few options as far as dates. This will be our third cruise with Uniworld. We have previously cruised in June and Sept. Hopefully August won't be too warm.. We love Uniworld and the ship is older but received good reviews. We have cruised with Avalon to Paris and Normandy also a deal, and we loved it. We have cruised the Rhine and it will be a bit of a repeat of some of the towns but we are looking forward to the Moselle..

  16. We have a TA that gives us an excellent discount. We have taken five River cruises and with different cruise companies. We have booked a two week river cruise for next August with Uniworld. We booked after seeing a good deal and we love Uniworld..last year we cruised with Avalon and loved it. We are repeat clients with Uniworld so we have a few perks included. This cruise we booked our airfare through Uniworld another special deal..great price and connections. Advice do your homework!

  17. Please let me know how you enjoyed your cruise in April.. We sail the end of August on River Queen..Third cruise with Uniworld. Booked air with Uniworld great fare and I also had miles to pay for one ticket.. Past Uniworld clients get one free laundry a week .. A real bonus...enjoy... You will love it..
