  1. I stand corrected. You are right! I assumed they were part of the stimulus pack that Trump was tooting about. Thanks for correction.
  2. I learned a very hard lesson d/t pandemic. I do not issue any monies except for deposit on credit card until final payment is due. I also check all financial postings re solvency of company I am using. I also examine the cost of taking a bullet..... if I can't afford to lose the money I am issuing, then I shouldn't be going. So I weigh the risks vs my desire to take the trip. If you can breakdown parts of the trip into numbers, then insure the highest and eat the lowest loss. My Australia trip was $$$ but it was broken down into small amounts for each segment, never all my eggs into one basket. You might also "play with credit cards". ie take a few, and charge segments onto those, assuming they all carry insurance, and pay off immediately. I haven't heard lately of any major cruise lines going bankrupt, but that means nothing in this economic climate. Surely the US would bail them out again?? And I admit... I drive by the seat of my pants, and live by my rule if I can't afford the loss, then I shouldn't be going. I refuse to pay the Insurance Bandits!!! Hold all monies back til final day, then enjoy a wonderful holiday. Australia and New Zealand rock!!!!
  3. Gee, this is the second river boat fire. (Scenic Amber)
  4. I like your thinking. We could double as tour guides in-between house keeping šŸ™‚ and writing.
  5. Awhile back you could pay extra $$ to stay later onboard at disembarkation. Do they still have this package??
  6. Without rehashing Scenics legal case from dissatisfied pax when river cruise was diverted to buses.... can someone briefly describe what their go forward plans look like when this occurs? I though I read somewhere alcohol is not offered at the hotels?? If hotel room is not what you wanted, can you upgrade directly with the hotel at time of checking in? Where do they take meals? Who manages luggage on and off buses? Is there a rep present at all times at hotel?
  7. Geez, this is another example of communication failure. Surely it would have been wiser to post letter onto their website news pick down list, or send to all customers past and present. It helps dissuade incorrect info etc. I would like to know what happened to their Vancouver office and if they plan to reopen? Scenic if your listening, I'm available to work for just room and board, onboard one of your ships!!! šŸ™‚ šŸ™‚
  8. Ditto that request! The only bonus living this close to Toronto is the airport, although I would rather be in the Ottawa Valley!!! We have booked direct TO-Zurich 3 days pre cruise stay, then home 1 day post cruise from Frankfurt. Have analyzed all routes to eliminate Frankfurt, but $$ and a dog, depicted we just stick with Frankfurt. Our only river experience was AMA and they were outstanding. Scenic is slightly one step up?? The all inclusive was the deciding factor. I nickled and dimed the cruise lines on paper, and basically they all work out to the same just depending on how you like to consume beverages. Scenic was purported to be more luxury, so they will have to prove that to me!! I really liked the customer service with AMA.
  9. Excellent time for Scenic to Shine!!! Upgraded cabins, some type of cruise refund in cash. Come on Scenic pour on the customer service!!!!!!!
  10. Don't know what happened with my previous post re Scenic reservations, maybe "Rogers outrage" was doing a number earlier than we thought.... hahahaha I spoke with Iriana in Miami the other day. The call was answered quickly, and she knew her stuff. She was concise, and articulate. It was a pleasure making this booking with a rep that was customer orientated and knowledgeable. Kudos to Scenic for this employee!!
  11. Someone better chime in, cause I'm confused.......... I was to the understanding Air Canada no longer needs a Covid - test, nor will the Cdn border refuse you entry if you are coming home positive. This is if you are fully vaccinated. An ArrivCan must be filled out prior (both coming and going) US no longer needs Covid - test. Airlines no longer need Covid -test both leaving and returning. If you are a citizen fully vaccinated, and returning to Canada positive, you must isolate at home for 10 days on return. You may be requested to do a randomly selected Covid test upon arrival All of these rules may change at the drop of a hat depending on the mood of the current govt.
  12. It would make more sense to go with legally recorded test result vs a recovery letter, since most of our current testing sites for clinical symptoms are affiliated with a hospital? I guess next plan of action is: when you are <90 days from vacation and sick, head to test site for proof. Iā€™d make sure the RAT test was positive first incase itā€™s too early in illness.
  13. Sounds like a great item to have in hand each day. Maybe some who enjoys detailing all sites etc could post online. Maybe in blog format? A few months prior to my visit I would read one or two books about life or life events in the area. It made my experiences pop with colour and understanding.
  14. Does anyone know how getting a letter to prove you had Covid, but now over it but still testing positive works? How does a doctor online prove all this to issue cert.? To prove this crazy virus is moving constantlyā€¦.Dau family all fully vaxed and boostered, our dau has had confirmed Covid 2x in 6 months, her dau 3 x in 9 months, other dau nada, and spouse1 x. In my house, son not vaxed, just got over Covid 3 weeks ago and still positive, and husband and I four doses, now positive and sicker than sick. Iā€™m thinking this virus has changed so much we all will be coming down with it nonstop, and will need those letters
  15. Do you think some of their HQ/communication issues stem from previous lawsuit (chg in employee), or purely pandemic related issues(loss of staff)? Does anyone know if Vancouver office is reopening?
  16. FYIā€¦yes indeed they are honouring our previous depositšŸ‘
  17. Viola!! The idiot is me! My ā€œpop upsā€ were turned to block!! now.. if they honour the past depositā€¦.Iā€™ll finally be sailing Scenic. Excited, as weā€™ve been told they are top notch onboard. Thanks all for assistance.
  18. Thanks for info. Iā€™ve tried cleaning cookies/history and search engines ā€¦ā€¦.nada. I know they had a hacking event, but figured that was all resolved. Iā€™ll try US site today and order print material. Attempting to use our previous deposit on cancelled bookingsā€¦..with the hopes PM doesnā€™t reinstitute restrictions next year !šŸ¤Æ
  19. Have spent months attempting to peruse cruises on the Canadian web page, and zilch ability. When I call, have been placed on hold for hour or more (many many many times). Can't do an online booking either. Not feeling very confident spending thousands if they can't manage a web page/phones etc. When I attempt to contact head office via email, that page doesn't work either. Very frustrated, and quite frankly think I should be spending my money elsewhere. Anyone have any idea when this issue will be fixed? Or will it???? This will be our first time with Scenic and so far, not very impressed. Why is Vancouver office closed???
  20. Have travelled extensively and never used this except for Australia/NZ. When rumours were erupting re a strange pneumonia in China back in 2019, I registered us for a B2B Caribbean cruise in 2020. We received early warning notices to book a flight to return to Canada asap due to Covid (before pandemic was declared, and then again when declaration was made). I don't buy into giving the govt anymore ability then they already have with our passports, to watch our movements, but for once, I was glad I did. It gave us a heads up on securing a flight before the rush... and the rest is history. Doubt I will use it this fall, but if news looks a little shaky, then I wouldn't hesitate again.
