On Wednesday, we are taking the Rainforest and Waterfall hike

    Wes,

We took that excursion back in 2014 and was one of our favorites. It had rained the night before, but was clear for our walk. They gave us a backpack (to carry our lunch) and a walking stick, which I used because the trails were a bit muddy. Hope the weather holds up.

  2. Wendy,
The walls on some of the ships used to be metallic, but I don't think they are anymore. At least on our last cruise, magnets did not stick. It may be the wallpaper is keeping magnets from sticking. I have been bringing small Command Strips to put up my map. Both sides of main cabin door are metallic.

This response is from DaveFR in another thread regarding getting cash aboard the ship. This way you do not have to pay any fees for taking out credit:

There are at least two ways to get cash on the ship. First, each person is entitled to get $400 per segment from the Purser at the Reception Desk. The $400 just goes on your account without any fees. It is not a cash advance for your credit card company but is just part of your combined purchases during your cruise. Note however that the $400 cash received does not offset any shipboard credit you might have. You still have to spend all the non-refundable credit you might have.

Second, using the gift order form on the Regent website, you can send yourself shipboard refundable credit that you can get any time during your cruise. I believe you have until 12 days before your cruise to send yourself shipboard credit.

  4. The doors on Regent have a plastic snap "holder" where they place dinner confirmations and party invitations. We place our "Do Not Disturb" sign in that.

As to decorations, we do put a magnetic photo of our dogs on the door. It helps us make sure we are at the right door, and it also begins conversations with our neighbors.

  5. Just read whole thing and looked at the great photos...Wonderful info and got a lot of info on shore exc.,,,seems I booked almost same as you and loved reading about them.

You mentioned Matt is in nursing school,,,I m an RN with many yrs.experience,so let me know if I can help him in any way. Worked most hosp dept.Do have BSN. My DH is a MD and can answer questions too.

    Alexandra Cruiser,

Thank you so very much for your response. Matthew graduated from nursing school in December. He passed the NCLEX-RN and obtained his license in May (following our cruise to South America). Due to our planned future travels, he has not initiated the job search process as of yet. I'll be sure to let him know of our correspondence.

  6. It is interesting that the address that Survey Direct uses at the bottom of the e-mail ( 340 S. Lemon Avenue #9250 Walnut CA 91789) is a mailbox service. There is also no Survey Direct website as such. Both of those things threw up BIG red flags for me.

Thank you TravelCat for confirming that is is a legitimate survey.

  7. I just recently got off of both the Mariner and Explorer. Internet speeds on both ships was poor at best. I asked both Internet Directors "If I pay for the streaming internet service, and you open up those ports to allow the streaming, do you also increase the speed that I receive?" The answer on both ships was "NO". If you can barely download internet pages, I think it is foolish to pay for streaming that will just sit there and buffer.

The only place we could get good connectivity in our cabin was to move very close to the door. Further into the cabin and all was lost.

  8. DeepFreeze,

Adding to your comment. I am currently on the Explorer....and just off of the Mariner. The internet on both ships is WAY below standard.

The average internet speed is between 0.5 and 1.0 Mbps. If you want to add streaming, they charge $34.98 per day. I have asked both Internet Managers "If we pay for the streaming and you open up the ports, do we also get faster internet?" The answer from both ships is "No...it is the SAME speed." We don't see the value of adding streaming as the speed is sometimes not fast enough even to get Facebook without the video streaming.

  9. We are currently on the Explorer in a Penthouse-A Cabin (948). We asked for the beds to be split. They just moved the 2 beds as far apart as they could with the nightstands still on the outsides. In this cabin, you could not put the small nightstand in the middle. That would cause that bed to be against the bathroom and closet doors. Put the larger nightstand between the beds and the other bed would be against the sliding glass door and you could not get out to the balcony from the bedroom.
