  1. I have no idea what site you are looking at but I simply don't believe you based on the results I find on VTG. As an example, the first 2 weeks of January, the Carnival Glory and Splender out of Miami run between $449 to $529 per person for a 7 night cabin (lowest price). The same time frame for the Emerald Princess and Regal Princess out of Fort Lauderdale runs from $649 to $924 for a week, again lowest price. The $100 OBC doesn't come close to making up for the $200 per person increase. So, it's no myth, it's fact, Carnival is cheaper, almost always.

I agree and that is why I go on CCL cruises since I cruise solo most of the time Carnival fits my budget.

  2. What would you suggest they do... force singles to show up? Offer some inducement?

In my experience any "special interest" gathering is sparcely attended if at all. Therefore, I've stopped attending after finding myself the only one to show up.

Most people aren't cruising to mingle, they are cruising to vacation.

I just got from the Glory I cruised solo so I hung around the lido deck and usually sat at the Red frog pub. The first day was fun but all the other days I could have sat on the same stool all day and not one person who have said a word to me I had to converse first. People just don't care they are stuck in their own little world but I DO LIKE TO CRUISE for me it is the best vacation and I'm not a shy person so I do meet a lot of people.

  3. When we still smoked (quit 5 years ago) we often hung out in the casino even when not gambling because it was one of the few (sometimes only) indoor space where smoking was allowed.

Now we spend almost no time in the casinos on Carnival as the smell is all around. But when on Celebrity we do spend time there as they banned ALL indoor smoking years ago, its wonderful!

Years ago CCL did have a non smoking ship but according to the beards it was the least profitable ship in the fleet so it went back to smoking they put profits over people's health.

  4. Just got off the Glory 10/31/15 the smoke was terrible around the casino bar. There was this guy that I know he has heart problems and is still puffing away I do not know the rationality but I have never, never smoked not one puff so I probably do not understand. A nurse told me one time we are same but we are all different.

  5. This is our retirement goal as well given how expensive most retirement communities are. Too bad we're a few decades away from having to worry about this though...

Don't wish your life away enjoy it!!!!!!!!!

  6. Dateline did a show about the germs on cruise ships and where they are found in the greatest numbers it was as follows Handles on the scoops in the buffet lines, hand rails and elevator buttons. I just got back from a cruise and brought home a cold. So the next time I cruise I'm going to bring disposable gloves(right hand) with me to use on the buffet lines. I will not use the hand rails and will not use the elevators. I know this sounds crazy but I'm tired of getting sick on a cruise ship. The last thing do not shake hands because think of it you are not just shaking hands with the one person but how many hands did he/she shake before your hand was shook.

  7. Noise from the elevators themselves was not an issue in our last cruise. However, noise from "traffic" was (loud people walking down the corridor to their cabin). The closer you are to the elevator, the more traffic you'll get in the corridor.

Said that, the noise from people was nothing compared with the cabin from hell (Valor 8297) where we were woken up every morning at 5:50am when they were setting the chairs around the swimming pool. So, what's above you is more important than the elevator... And1551 has a cabin above, so you should be good. Enjoy your cruise!

If you booked with an agent they should have told you not to book that cabin because of the noise from above a PVP should have know that also.

    Gary.

  8. I stay near the elevators mid ship never had a problem but like one post said the location of your cabin is more important. My PVP said to avoid deck 8 mid ship because of the noise on the lido deck especially when the chairs are being set up and taken down.

  9. I drink maybe one or two pints of beer a week at home so four or five drinks per day would be a lot for me, no I would never use the cheers package. Besides six or eights drinks per day I could not drink that on my best day!!!!

  10. Happened to us 2 cruises ago. Was pouring in the morning so we waited til it slowed down to go ashore. It started raining again and rained all day. We sat under a shelter til it slowed then back to the ship. It was a bummer. Thank God we didn't put out the money for a cabana. A lot of people were mad they got no refund.

You think that's bad on one cruise it rained for 5 days!!!!! not showers but pouring rain. The bars on the promenade deck made a ton of money.

  11. As you can see below in our signature we are approaching 800 days on ships. We have increased our cruising frequency and now are cruising on a par with Dennis.

    2012: 10 Carnival Cruises 14 Total

    2013: 12 Carnival Cruises 14 Total

    2014: 14 Carnival Cruises 16 Total

2015: 11 Carnival Cruises so far with 3 more booked will be 17 Total

Wow!!!! Now 800 sea days is a lot of cruises so went or are going on a cruise at least once a month. Do you ever unpack?

  12. I hate to say it but these things happen way too often on Carnival. I've seen at least one, if not more, fight on every Carnival cruise I have taken. Never seen anything remotely similar on other lines.

I agree with you on this CCL attracts a greater % of people that do not how to act in public. The higher scale cruise lines you do not see fights.
