  1. They are forcing those that paid a premium for a NYE cruise to either pay more to use public venues, or be blocked from using them.

I had NYE cruise on my bucket list and was willing to pay extra on fare because I assumed something special would be happening. Not sure at this point what we will do. Have not heard what are the plans for pool deck. Up charges on Anthem range from $500 to $3000. Going to try to find out later today about pool deck festivities.

    Waiting for bingo to start!

  2. That's insane! Why would someone pay that much for the privilege of "doing something on NYE" that they could do any other night on the ship for free or a much lower cost. Especially after paying the higher rates just to be on the ship. I understand crowd control and all but come on.

There will be a special show in 270 years, but still unless we can find a free bar stool, we will be on pool deck. Waiter in silk said there will be new year something going on there. Having a good time. Saw we will rock you today... Excellent!

  3. Sitting in 270 asking about new year on ship. The minimum reservation amount to spend new year at 270 is $1500 per couple in balcony. Front row main area seating going for $3000! Really so crazy. Bartender says get here early and grab bar chair....

    Reservation includes Dom Peri champagne.

Sorry spell check messed up anthem word in topic post

  4. OP, thanks for your observations. I have been reading so many reviews on this ship, both positive and negative. We sail soon on a New Years Eve cruise and it is sold out. Going with a great positive attitude, but really, any company that puts out a new product really should be ready. Negative reviews are bad for business. Like you, I already have another cruise booked on Anthem, so we shall see what happens.

Thank you for sharing your experience.

  5. What if it's one that doesn't drop? I tried your idea once and ended up paying more than I would have if I booked early

Good point. On my next cruise, which I booked way in advance, I am paying less for a balcony cabin than an interior before it sold out a few weeks ago.

Overall, I have had only 1 cruise where price dropped so much that it was like, wow, but what the heck, but I was committed. Understand how the OP feels, but I still usually book pretty much in advance especially since I like to make sure I get the cabin I want, too.

  6. Can someone elaborate on the free wifi? I don't see this offer. Is it for all sailings? Do you need a code?

(I do see the $400 OBC when I attempt to book)

It seems like only for sailings prior to October 2016. When I called to reprice my cruise today we did get it for May 2016 sailing. If you are sailing before October, I would call and make reservation on phone and see what happens.

  7. I envy you- make sure you get a good seat in 270- that's where I bet the best party will be. And some kind of "fireworks".

Ahh, thanks for the tip! Have never been on a NYE cruise before so I think we picked a great ship to experience this!

Glad to hear that you would definitely rebook this ship. We have another cruise planned for Anthem in May and was wondering if we would keep the reservation. Sounds like we will especially since it is a bit of an unusual itinerary... Bermuda, Boston.

    Thanks so much for sharing!

  8. My wife and I are diamond plus and always book a junior suite but we are concerned about RCCL price drop policy. Our November cruise on Allure dropped $600 after our payment and now our January cruise on Allure has dropped after our full payment. Our travel agent and my direct communication with RCCL was to no avail. I even suggested OBC or upgrade but NO NO NO.

Loyal to Royal?? Maybe not in the future.

Yes, frustrating, but I think most cruise lines have this policy now. Happened to us on our Allure cruise also. I usually don't check prices after final date, but someone mentioned it our roll call so of course I had to check it out ;)

Anyway, enjoy your cruise, I did!

  9. Ken just posted on Twitter that he is aboard Anthem for the transatlantic, and then will take over as CD once the ship reaches America.

My estimate is that he will be Anthem's CD until sometime in January.

Just my luck, or lack thereof it seems;) He was the CD on our Allure cruise.

Not a fan, but, hey I am cruising, I'm happy.
