  1. Quite apart from the bedding and rash issues, I find it very disturbing that so many others agree with me about something as intangible as "the feel of the ship".

I really am a HUGE Royal fan and usually either buy or have 3-5 other cabins with me on a cruise. If I can't sell the "Royal Welcome" attitude that has always distinguished RCI from NCL and Princess, there is no reason for me to prefer RCI for those trips.

I should note that, since everyone other than my wife and I were on their first RCI ship (indeed my son, DiL and baby were on their first ever) they thought all was fine. I'm actually glad that none of my usual crew was aboard this time.

The couple we cruised with last month on the Allure also had the same impression. They also said that this was the first Royal cruise that their room attendant never stopped by to say hi, and by the end of the cruise, they still did not know who it was. Ours did welcome us and she was one of the few bright spots. Again otherwise the cruise, shows, etc., we really enjoyed....

Overall' date=' the cruise was fine but the "feel" was very different from Royal that we know and much closer to Norwegian in that most of the crew did their job competently but that's it. With a few notable exceptions (Clive at the Pool Bar, Kenger the washee-washee lady, and our wait staff in the MDR) the RCI feel of "I'm glad your here" was totally missing. That's very much a subjective thing but it definitely narrows the gap for me between RCI and NCL. I have always put RCI as first choice and this may no longer the case.

There were other little mosquito bite annoyances throughout the cruise but, as I said, we still had a good time. It just wasn't the RCI experience I have come to know and love so much.:(

and now........... Let the flames begin.[/quote]

No flaming here. I felt the exact same way about the Allure last month regarding "the feel." Lackluster crew - what happened to making you feel like they were really happy you were sailing with them. I am in VA Beach right now at the Springhill Suites and commented to my husband, RCL, should take a look at the staff here. Amazingly welcoming, friendly, etc. I, too, am a RCL fan as you can see I have two more booked with them. Hoping that they RCL will read their surveys regarding their issues.

  3. OP, I feel your pain. My sister-in-law and her husband are joining my husband and I for their very first cruise next year. She was so excited when she called to tell me that smoking was allowed on the balcony of Vision of the Seas. I told her the agent must have made a mistake and wanted to make sure they realized that before boarding the ship. Needless to say she was disappointed, but at least she knows before boarding the ship. Anyway, as an ex-smoker (and still missing it), not sure I would have gone on my first cruise with the rules as they are now. Everywhere you go now, it seems like they want smokers to go away. Give them a break!

  4. Granted it's still 4 weeks away, but it IS this month. Whew, I never thought it would get here!!

So excited too! Booked this cruise over 400 days ago and now I am finally down to 25 YAY>

Have a great cruise, Desertbelle, and everyone who is cruising April 2014 - we made it! :D

  5. Hurts doesn't mean RCCL did anything wrong. I agree it happens everyday but it still hurts to see it. I am happy with my cruise and not in the least upset with Royal but it still stings. Either way...ALLURE here I come!

Me, too, very happy with my cruise, my stateroom, and looking forward to a great vacation. See you onboard!

  6. Uhh yeah, I guess it hurts. But its not exactly an isolated occurrence. Auto manufacturers come out with sales/rebates and I guess if you bought a car the month before - that HURTS. People who bought homes before the housing crash in 08-09 could have bought them much cheaper if they had waited - that HURTS! But, I fail to see why that means that RCI is somehow doing something wrong or mistreating the customer, that's just life - happens every day!

Oh, my goodness, I know it is not an isolated RCI thing or that RCI is doing something wrong. Just wanted to share with the OP that they are not alone. Forgive me, for trying to be sympathetic How mean you are.

  7. OP: I don't think I have ever run into price drops before and I can really say now that I totally understand people's frustration with this issue. Yes, a reality that happens, but wow, paying close to $800 (total) more than what our D1 is going for now on our cruise - that HURTS!

I have a policy to never check pricing after final payment, even for possible upgrades, but as you know, it was being talked about alot on our roll call. Like you, I did check into a JS, but those are still considerably higher so would not make sense.

Oh well, we will have a great time. See you on the Allure! And, for those who got that terrific deal - Enjoy! :)

  8. My big advice to new cruisers, if you do not know if you will be seasick, come prepared. I used a patch on my first cruise and although, I didn't end up needing it (took it off after 3 days), on future cruises, I definitely did need it. I have met people on their first cruises who told me they would never cruise again because they were ill. If you come prepared, you will be okay and will cruise again, and again.

The patch works well for me even during Hurricane Noel. But many options are available. Happy Cruising, everyone!

  9. I have a friend at work who just got back from Royal and he had an aft balcony (M726 I think) and he said even though the room steward worked hard to keep it clean, it was pretty much not usable during the entire cruise. He was bummed about it for sure, but everything else was good. He did speak to a Customer Service Manager a couple of times.

For myself, I have had soot problems on one aft and I think that was on my most recent cruise on the RCL Enchantment, but nothing as bad as my friend and Ameila are reporting.

Good Luck, Amelia. Sorry you are experiencing such issues. Best wishes and hope you can enjoy the remainder of the cruise. I feel for ya for sure.
