OK! So I just looked at the ‘review’ posted and below is part of it…. “We wanted to experience a small ship cruise line and chose Oceania. We are an experienced Cruiser primarily on Celebrity. We wanted to see if the 25% differential between Celeb Acqua Class and Oceania was worth it. It's NOT. Average age on this cruise was Near Death. It should be sponsored by a Funeral Home or Long-Term Care provider.” Really sorry but should any ‘normal’ person who may have parents aunts or uncles really ‘disrespect’ anybody older than ?? . Who knows how old this person is but whatever they were never brought up to respect their parents never mind anybody else who may be a few years older.

In your opinion at what age should people stop cruising because you consider them to be ‘old fogeys’???

They all sound ‘horrific’! But, in saying that I’m not an ice cream lover so maybe they will all sound ‘iffy’ to me. ENJOY!

The discount is only $3 a day. The upgrade costs $30 so on a 10 night cruise if you book the day after you board works out the same price! Longer cruises different story!

We are sailing from September 28th to October 15th. There have been no changes to the itinerary so far apart from Izmir replaced by Corfu a while ago but I don’t think that’s on your segments. I think it’s too far out for us to hear about changes. Obviously Oceania will want to change as little as possible. I think the ‘chatter’ is more about the possibility of changes. If this is a bucket list trip then you may want to think twice! Nothing is written in stone, especially at the moment.

Another option could be El Puerto de Santa Maria about 30 minutes away by train. Wonderful ‘promenade’ through the town which I would imagine will be full of Spanish families who love to eat Sunday lunch out. Plus there’s a vast array of seafood restaurants and fried fish is a speciality.

We sailed PH on the Sirena when she’d just been refurbished and shortly afterwards I spoke with our Oceania UK agent who wanted to know what we thought of the new design. Apparently there were mixed feelings. We personally liked the new brighter look but apparently not everybody did. Although I do have to say some of the carpet designs were mind boggling! We sailed on the penultimate Riviera cruise before refurbishment so have not been on a larger ship since refurbishment. As far as I’m concerned it will be what it will be but we will still enjoy whatever!

The article was a few weeks after my email and it does clearly state that PH bathrooms will be refurbished but no mention of ‘all of the staterooms will have a fabric and upholstery refresh’ so who actually knows!! We are due on the first cruise after refurbishment so it may just be a case of ‘wait and see’ what actually does happen!

If Oceania has a private car tour listed in their trips then yes. Be warned they have become very expensive in 2024!

Below is a copy of an email I received from my TA directly from Oceania, dated 24/11/2023, in response to my question about exactly what the refurbishment was going to be. Rereading the email it looks like none of the bathrooms are going to be refurbished?? This information has been made public in later statements by Oceania. Further to our call, please find below the details regarding the refurbishment for the Oceania Marina: Our second O-class vessel, Marina, will undergo a full and extensive refurbishment in May 2024. Marina will be the final ship within Oceania Cruises’ award-winning fleet to be refurbished · While it will be extensive and all encompassing, it will not be to the same level of her sister ship, Riviera: All of the upper suites will receive a full cosmetic refresh, the same as Riviera. All of the penthouse suites will be completely redecorated All of the staterooms will have a fabric and upholstery refresh. We will not be building out entirely new bathrooms as it unfortunately cannot be accomplished within the timeframe required. All public areas will be refreshed to be in-line with Riviera. We have a cruise booked from Athens on the Riviera 28th September 2024. She arrives in Athens on the 21st but there is no cruise for that week. She departs Athens on the 28th. Just wondering if anybody has any information as to why there is a week between cruises. Dry dock? Charter?

Marina is going into dry dock for refurbishment at the end of April. The PH cabins are being completely refurbished with new bathrooms etc. The lower cabins are due to have new ‘soft furnishings’ but the bathrooms will NOT be refurbished.

Interesting! The one thing I like about my TA is that they give you their best price first. In the past I’ve had a TA ask me what I had been quoted and then they beat it by a fraction. I just don’t like that way of doing business. Ive also had one or two experiences when the agent hasn’t listened to my requests, despite me asking repeatedly for certain transport etc. and it makes you wary of them. I guess when you find an agent who you feel is trustworthy then you have found the right fit for you even if they aren’t the very ‘cheapest’!
