  1. Brings back memories. For more than 10 years, my official government email signature included the initials SG. For many years, nobody questioned what it might mean since the government often includes lots of degrees and titles, etc. Finally someone did ask. It meant Supreme Goddess, of course.
  2. Yes- it is for a 22 July cruise. And I was rather surprised initially at the expirations since the seemed to be only one of the cabins that remained pending but dozens of the others. Went back to the website and it really is acting strangely- allowing changes, and then asking for a credit card number which it did NOT do when I first bid. I guess that the whys and wherefores of MoveUp are not to be known by us mere mortals. What will be will be. And all those other aphorisms which might apply.
  3. Nearly a week ago, all my bids but one on Move Up expired. Okay- this suggested that we would very possibly have successfully bid on that cabin. This morning I just checked to see if it had been approved and suddenly ALL the bids are back to pending. Is this a website problem or is this a common experience? I was quite surprised and now don't know what to think.
  4. Thanks for the clarification- does it end right at Canada Place? Cheaper with 2 of us so will rethink our plans. Is it easier or more difficult to get to than a taxi?
  5. “I just love cruising in any cabin = having someone cook and bring me food, wash the dishes, and clean my room! It makes me happy just thinking of that, especially right this minute since I need to go find something to nuke for supper. Sigh.“ 😉
  6. Just did- had been avoiding it for quite some time as it began to feel like a wake.
  7. But I thought that strictly speaking you couldn't take luggage with you? Or that it would be very difficult to handle on the train? We come into Vancouver at about 3pm the day before and would happily take the CL if we could without too much trouble.
  8. I had given up following Crystal- this is good news- thanks!
  9. Of course not! Fair is fair. 😜
  10. Silversea Excursions and Crystal River, mostly. Of course, sadly, Crystal is no more.
  11. "That said you seem to be very concerned about all sorts of things so who knows." Not really- to some degree I was trolling. And a bit set off by a couple of posts I read elsewhere which did strike me as being rather snarky- all but saying of course plebians shouldn't expect. etc etc.
  12. Have not sailed on Celebrity before and looking forward to our Alaska cruise in late July. But am a bit concerned about seems like quite a focus on what cabin class one has booked. Special places onboard, special treats, special this and that and the other thing. I do understand that there is a rather huge difference in the price paid for different levels of cabins but I am not entirely comfortable with what seems like a real classist experience. Is this something that we will experience onboard? In line waiting for something will "upper suite" passengers be pushed to the head of the line, for example? My recent sailing history has been on the luxury lines where cabin choice didn't really make much of an impact on the onboard experience- and I worry that it might on Celebrity. Am I going to feel like a second class passenger? Or am I just reading too many posts which highlight these differences?
  13. But it is so unnecessary. Stop and get $40 at the airport at one of the ATMs, get it changed into smaller bills, and you are good to go. Everything else can go on a credit card. And then nobody has to spend their time changing money. So easy these days!
  14. 1- correct 2- correct 3- don't know 4- correct hope that helps. There is a lot of information here and on the Canada/Alaska port of call about where to get tested in Vancouver
  15. We are one of five big ships in Skagway late in July. It was going to be tight anyway- this could be interesting!
  16. They check your passport and the information is attached. So nobody asking to actually see the ArriveCAN doesn't mean anything unless you are traveling without a passport.
  17. Well- I know where I am going to go to win my big money! Oh wait- my biggest win ever was $100 in nickels from a slot machine. Guess I don't need to worry too much. Serious question though- do people cruise to gamble? I know that people go to Vegas to gamble but I always assumed that gambling onboard was a passing fancy and that everything would be even more stacked against the player. Is this not so?
  18. Have you checked to see if you can access them on the Celebrity website? Go to Manage Reservation and one of the drop downs will be edocuments. And the last pages of that are the paper luggage tags to print out. And apologies if this was obvious to you.
  19. Yes SE Alaska includes parts of the inside passage but it is nothing like you see if you leave from Vancouver. We did the cruise out of Seattle once and were very disappointed. So if possible, try sailing out of or into Vancouver. Sailing out of Seattle means two days sailing in open ocean- rougher seas with not a lot to see, although you might see whales. However, it is only one part of the Alaska experience so if your timing does not allow for sailing out of Vancouver- there are a lot of other amazing things to see.
  20. " i wouldn't be surprised if there are a lot of new folks answering those phones, but she sure didn't seem like she knew what she was talking about. " That is true, for sure. And usually the mistakes are NOT in the passengers favor. However, on occasion they are- I upgraded for just over $7 a day for the alcohol package and nothing at all to upgrade to the premium non-alcohol package. I think that was the same call when the agent found me a very good rate on the cruise- state discounts plus whatever the current sale was. i was expecting about $200 and she found nearly $500. It was well worth the long wait to get through.
  21. We also upgraded our drink package prior to our final payment. Yes the wait time was awful but it was done and one less thing I had to worry about.
  22. ATM machines are everywhere, practically. And they spit out local currency. Travellers checks, once used by practically all travelers, are long gone. Credit cards have taken their place, and with them the ability to get cash in minutes. Take pity on the poor doorman or waitress who gets tipped in foreign currency, and has to take the time to get to a bank to convert the money (sometimes a very time consuming experience), and pay service charges on changing the money.
  23. Agree that it really is a simple form to complete. And times have changed- once upon a time there were long forms to fill out prior to entering a foreign country. Visas to apply for months in advance. And you had to register upon arrival, and hotels took your passports. Smart phones are everywhere- the Maasai had them in the middle of the Serengeti as did islanders in Papua New Guinea, despite having no electricity. (They found someone with generators to charge their phones). The future is now. Most visas can be applied for and received online. And if I can figure it out at age 76, anyone can.
  24. True but at least she would know what the outcome would be when she got the formal test. If she tested positive she could go back to the proof of recovery paperwork.
  25. UPDATE: SORRY, I googled the Canadian website but ended up on the Princess CL website. Although it is straightforward and appears to be accurate- I would fully trust only the Canadian Government Website. But since it is so clearly written I will leave this here: Guests who have recovered from COVID-19 within three months of the date of their cruise departure date or cruisetour departure date (whichever starts first) do not need to get a viral test before embarkation if they are at least 10 days past their COVID-19 infection, have no symptoms and produce documentation of recovery from COVID-19 infection. Documentation of Recovery consists of the following: Paper or electronic copies of the positive viral test result from a certified laboratory (dated no more than 90 days ago), or A valid digital COVID-19 certificate (DCC) or a document issued by an offcial health or government authority showing confirmed previous infection. Guests who present these documents will need to go through a secondary screening at the terminal, and boarding will be approved at the medical staff’s discretion. Guests who are unable to provide documentation of recovery that fulfills the above requirements, must take the required COVID-19 viral test before their vacation and show a negative result.
